Paul Merton motorhoming TV series

“Staycation”
I agree but, unlike the French we regard English as an adapting growing language so this, like my pet hates - using ”like” when they mean ”such as” and “decimate” when far more than one in ten is destroyed, I have come to accept it. I think it is here to stay(cation) - see what I did there?😁

Well we never had vacations anyway. They were (and are) holidays.

He went into rebab and later found out mental issues caused by maleria tablets. My wife’s work colleague had the same problem. Like others I think he looks fragile and definitely punching above his weight. Good luck to him, I will be watching but for entertainment value only.

She's his 3rd wife. 2nd died sadly. First was Caroline Quentin.

It's a motorhome forum so any celebrity doing a MH TV programme is going to come in for some flak and rightly so as if we haven't had to learn the ropes.

Most on here have worked hard to afford a MH and to have celebs waltz into MH life and be paid to waffle in about, it parking where they like, patronising van life is a bit rich!

Cheers James

Liked the way they treated it as entertainment but gently introduced a bit wider set of information - eg smaller vans, bigger vans, different places to stay. Wonder why their "trip around the nation" stayed almost entirely in England? There was mention of "check if it's ok to stop if you're not on a site" but it might have been informative to mention a little bit more than nothing about Scotland.

Channel 5, Friday 6th Augusr 8pm.

It is also on Channel 5 + 1 at 9pm.

Which is good because another new series starts on Channel 4 at 8pm, Epic Wales, Valleys, Mountains and Coasts.
Yup. We recorded and watched both! Going back to the show, I quite enjoyed the first one (although all the lights on when wild camping annoyed me lol). I hope they don’t spoil it, when they did the canal journeys series they made boaters out to be incompetent idiots (and their boating skills were seriously lacking) but so far so good in this one!

They did explain why they were using a map rather than the sat nav in some detail. Can’t be criticised for that
We don't even bother with a map sometimes, left or right ?? first to answer we go that way.
Have found some wonderful places that way, which would have been missed if following a planned route,
But have also got into some tight spots as well at times.
All part of the fun / adventure

Having seen the commercial it will give completely the wrong impression of what Motorhoming is actually about. I hope l am proved wrong.
Rubbish, though I like Paul Merton, in this series his spontaneous wit adds nothing to the motorhoming scene. The most informative bit was fixing the mirror back on! I for one will not be watching the rest . . . . .

I think even my other half could navigate to a place by following a range rover with a film crew in it
So nothing is ever "staged" on TV... not even 'pure' documentaries

And of course as that particular segment was filmed "in cab" by a couple of Gopros (or similar)... so they might just possibly have been on their own at that point.

Haven’t seen it yet but have recorded. wasnt expecting much anyway after the other rubbish about caravanning and camping over the last couple of years. I guess at least it will provide some entertainment…. Maybe..

Twas ok ishhh, but by the end I had enough, so won’t be watch any more. Indeed after consideration, I think for entertainment, I would rather read the Very old-mo TypeFellaPerson’s joke book. :gum:

I'm surprised that Old-Mo's joke book wasn't on the places that Paul and his wife were due to visit. Not Old-Mo..............................just the joke book ! They could have got a whole episode out of that !

Suki saying "Hey Paul, this is a good one".

Paul saying "Nah, Plato used that one about 2000 years ago."

I'm new to MoHo-ing, so was hoping to learn a few things. Sadly, the only thing I learnt that was related to MoHo-ing was how to light a BBQ with an egg box!!! Really didn't think there was any humour in Merton talking about throwing poo out of the window, either. What a shame they didn't use the opportunity to make this series really interesting (n):sleep:

Was that you stuck in the tiny village of Slapton a few weeks back

Thought it was ok. Not proper, particularly for the FLT's but the interaction between them is good for a laid back think about nothing 1 hour of tv.

Better than most of the crap my wife watches on Netflix. She wouldn't watch sex life by the way. Not enough of a story line :LOL::LOL:

I think you need to read my post again, your response is to the absolute opposite of what l said.

Agreed. However, lots of people have got used to short stories...;)

And no Sat Nav system.
...in an attempt at humour no doubt.

Strikes me that Paul Merton has been offered this programme at took it probably in place of some of his lost fees for HIGNFY cancellations. No doubt they get chauffered around, pick up the van at filming spots, do the odd night in the van, have pre-arranged places and parking to go to. He is so obviously not into it - his wife is trying harder to look the part. Much more interesting trips and stuff on vans on You Tube.

It's light entertainment rather than a documentary. Overall rather better than I expected.

What I would like to see added is a discussion about driving license classes (I know it was stated the van was under 3,500 kg and could be driven on a car license), payloads and also more on where one can and can not park either to visit somewhere or for an overnight stop.

I did have a head shake about the EHU being live when plugged into the van .... and the "wild camping" wasn't what we understand by the term, perhaps more discussion about trespass and criminal damage might have been informative but the "don't leave a mess" message was spot on.

I hope that if there is a second series then Scotland and more of Wales are included but we all have our special places.

Also I really liked Susan Calman's series even though it was more about places to go rather than van life!

We've not watched it yet but if it introduces people to places to visit in the UK and put money into local economies then it's a good thing imho

TV company’s find out something could be really popular and make a programme, like visiting Cornwall. So more and more people visit Cornwall and you now can’t move. Now it’s happening with motorhomes.

Yep, but hardly surprising as they can't have failed to notice the extraordinary rush by first-timers to buy m/homes and those considering a purchase.

I'm also wondering if there could be something about Aires and how motorhoming differs elsewhere in the world. I know that can't be done at the moment but it might be an idea for future series.

Gawd, we got some right old Victor Meldrews on this forum, lighten up fellas it is what it is a light hearted fun program giving a taste of motor homing, not an in depth factual documentary.
They know no better!
