More grief about motorhomes

Could it be that in Spain and France they have real Romanies: a people who are very ancient, proud and wholesome. In the UK sadly our Romanys seem to be heavily outnumbered by new-age travellers, tinkers and drop-outs.
As a child (many years ago), and again in the early 1980's I had the privilege of living alongside true Romanies and having them as friends. They did not leave a trail of rubbish and human waste behind tbem.
You forgot Irish Travellers,(or were you being polite saying new age) Fully agree, never had a problem with Romanies.BUSBY.

BUSBY I was trying to be polite and PC!and not include them in with rinkers or didikies. (Cant spell "didi...." so they got left out too.

Spotted this on there FB page. I am stunned ......at Glencoe Mountain Resort - We would like to thank the campervans who have been booking to stay in our 4 official bays over the last few weeks and those who have heeded our advice not to just pitch up in the car park. We really appreciate all you folks doing things responsibly.
However over the last few weeks we have seen an increasing number of vans just pitching up into the car park. Some are being responsible and are completely self contained and not using our facilities however most are using our toilets, showers, waste disposal, water points and dumping large volumes of waste. While we don't recommend people just pitching up at the moment we have been operating with a light touch and not chasing people away as we appreciate how difficult it can be for people to find a space to stop over at the moment. What would be appreciated though is that people would use our contact tracing app to register there visit and pop a donation in the boxes sited around the car park. Despite around 100 vans just pitching up over the last few weeks and a suggested donation of £5 for use of our facilities donation boxes yielded just £15.
Most campervan owners are brilliant and very welcome however there seems to be a minority at the moment who are threatening to spoil it for everyone.

The NC500 is getting all the bad publicity at the moment but I lived and worked in the Highlands from 1990 - 2016. The main route in and out was the A9 from Perth to Inverness, which served all transport, residents, tourists and truckers. in the 100 miles of this road there were NO facilities!
If you were 'local' you learned which detour to make that would take you to a near-by town which had a 24hour garage with facilities.
If you were a trucker working to a tachograph you pulled into a lay-bye, if you were a tourist or had a car load of kids you did the same.
There were countless large signs stating "TIREDNESS KILLS,TAKE A BREAK" where?
If one dared exit the car in a laybye one had to take great care where one placed ones feet. The laybys were like disgusting open sewers covered in litter and human faeces!
The Authorities (highland council)? In their wisdom decided to build a cycle track beside the A9. It is very ,very rarely used, still there are no facilities!
There were very few if any motorhomes on the A9 back in the 90's but even back then there was a serious lack of even very basic facilities.

The cycle track not too bad a route, far better than being on the A9. When we used it 2 years ago it was quite busy. ;);)

I read that on Facebook too and have to say I don't believe it .....ive stayed in that carpark and seen people put money in the boxes I dont believe for one minute only 3 out 100 vans put money in the box

I've personally never used their services only the carpark

Maybe the councils are not the answer then.
The campra group are also approaching supermarkets , community centres , church hall carparks etc for overnight parking spots

The council only needs to grant the permission

It doesn't necessarily have to be council carparks .....

Many aires or parking spots in europe aren't the councils land but sport centres etc
Lidl provides spaces in Portugal spain and France, they could do so here also

Most of these carparks are completely empty overnight and many parts of them are empty daytime also

Like Walmart in the US , their car parks are often used for overnighting RVs but no services as far as I know.

I'm delighted to hear it is at last getting some use, it certainly had very little for long enough!
Almost anything would be better than cycling the length of the A9, although it is being very slowly and surely improved, by golly it needed it! It was recognised as being one of the most dangerous lengths of road in the U.K.
Back in '94 I cycled (with an organised tour) from Lands End to John o'Groats, a brilliant experience ! but I am delighted to say at Glasgow we turned left and came up the West Coast giving the A9 a very wide berth. Now with the NC500 it would probably be a more hazardous, less pleasant experience.

We used it when doing LEJOG I am not so sure that the Dutch cyclist though it was of a high standard

Our ride organiser was "bike adventures uk", I have to say tbe organisation and route used were absolutely first class. Although the organiser guy ( If I remember correctly Ithink he was called Kevin), had a sadistic streak about finding us the steepest possible hills!!! It was great fun, I loved every minute of it and returned much fitter than I started.
He organises routes all over uk and the continent, I would highly recommend the organisation and would have loved to do more but sadly my MS was already beginning to kick in.

I never understand why some people think that French gypsies aren't a problem at times and that is as a result of tough policing and laws.

A quick Google brings up shed loads of reports. Here is a recent one.

Basically it says that they have helped themselves to a beautifully maintained area having broken through gates and the cops did nothing as there were so many

Sounds familiar?

Almost every cyclist that does Lands End to John O'Groats uses that cycle path.
Over 3,000 registered their route last year.
The majority don't bother to register

The cycle path therefore gets more usage than many minor highland roads

I have to admit I haven't seen anyone actually say that 🤷‍♂️

That was like a daily mail story you wrote

Personally I need a tap and waste disposal once every 8/9 days

Thats it
Dont read the mail. Supported the Nazi’s in WW11.😩
Its an absolute fallacy that you are self sufficient
You can make your water and waste Last more then most by the sounds of it. 8 days! 👍
You must be digging it out with a stick😀
Im self sufficient. I can last at least a year without leaving my house.
I have running water, Mains sewage electric, gas, solar, backs up for all those. Enough food! To feed an army. Though I might have scurvy after a year😀

Still do not see the difference between a full time motor homer and a traveller. Do they not travel? Do they not try to park up on spare ground, and car parks for free.
Why is it that if motor homers want somewhere to park up they want to call it an Aire and want it provided free for them to use? If travellers move in they are a nuisance and must be moved on asap.
If a full timer has no fixed-abode then surly they are travellers and should be treated as such. I can not see why local residents should provide such Aires just to appease the few that are to tight to pay for proper facilities.
There are many different types of campsites so no excuse for never using them other than the cost implication.
Freedom of choice, want to be in the town centre, don't like kids, don't like bars, don't like rules and regulations. Is all blerb for I'm special and above such places, I'll do what I want and stuff the rest of you and to hell with the consequences.

Much of southern England has a lot more in common with northern France, Belgium, and the Netherlands than they do with Northern England.
Explain please?

Reading threads like this are a great test of my self control...

Not a single original idea or thought ever appears in them.

The "if you can afford a motorhome you can afford site fees" brigade display their total lack of understanding why folk don't use sites.

The Off-Site motorhoming haters go on and on and on about poo and wee and rubbish, revealing their ignorant prejudices.

Hobbyist motorhomers have practically NOTHING of interest for me just as I have nothing of interest to them.

I DON'T want any more "aires" with facilities built... there are campsites for folk who can't deal with their own poo and like parking in lines between pegs.

I know of literally hundreds of safe, beautiful, scenic park up spaces around Western Europe where I can spend a night or two. When at one I spend most of my time worrying that I will be joined by other bloody motorhomes!

These places are not on any effing apps (thank god).

Newly built "Aires" are magnets for hobbyist motorhomers who arrive, park up and spoil the peace.

Would you bloody believe it? Once a Man U*d supporter van (London plates) tried settling down next to me.

Thank goodness I have 1-6 video close to hand and powerful speakers.

You're obviously either new to motorhoming or drive a british built caravan with an engine .

Solo traveller carry 2 cassettes each does 4/5 days

130l fresh tank , each shower 8 litres of water ...which leaves 50 litres for tea and cooking.

If you can't manage that then you're an amateur

Don't know about others but I don't demand an aire or parking place for free.Wont refuse it when it is but never understand why they are free unless it just a car park with no services. On a usual 12 week trip to Spain and Portugal we probably do 6 or 7 weeks on sites(I enjoy a sociable site with a bar and pool but I also enjoy the tranquillity and peace of an aire on a lake or river.I also enjoy a village/town/city aire
or camperstop so as to explore, eat and drink. If some one else prefers sites full time well that's up to them, if they like wild camping again it's their choice. If it does not clash with my life style why should I object and why should any one want to crytisise me.Live and let live.BUSBY.

I'm very pleased to hear it, there must have been a distinct upturn in cycling in the highlands in recent years. Though unless people are using it because they wish to set time records for the end to end or indeed are limited in the time they have available, which I appreciate is quite possible, I feel they are seriously missing out on some of the most beautiful scenery that the highlands have to offer, not to mention still sharing most of the traffic pollution.

the first one probably paid for his vehicle & is a tax payer .the other one.............................................?
don't like kids, don't like bars, don't like rules and regulations. Is all blerb for I'm special and above such places, I'll do what I want and stuff the rest of you and to hell with the consequences.
No. It is simple the same as I always bought houses away from anyone. I don't want your company, I don't want noise, I do not want to hear you ,I don't drink ,I hate drunks, I just mind my own business unless you annoy me. & yes I had kids ,I just didn't impose them for others to suffer.
I don't even bother with aires as they are usually away from the route I am on.I wish to spend the least time possible wandering about looking for sites/aires when I just wish to stop ,walk the dog go to bed ,get up shower & go.

Oh look resorts to insults because he has no argument

The difference is my old shit cart as you put it has increased in value 😉
And I don't worry about using water either

You'll need more for your ego of course.
