MOBY GOES TO TURKEY. A tam and pups adventure.

Yes he certainly is I just got the impression from the very start he was complete liar and bullsh1tter, once he started on about his disabled son and not be able to use the van much because of it.
His son maybe disabled but he’s a bull sh1tter of the first degree.
His son is definitely disabled but I do wonder how many other campers with problems he has sold as a private seller so as to avoid bad feedback for his business. I can't believe anyone would buy a camper supposedly for their personal use and not check everything out. He seemed very interested in whether the fridge got cold etc the other day . I think he's just a good liar.

The camper has definitely been laid up for 12 years etc ...that's all true but I wonder if he's either bought it as a trade vehicle discovered it had lots of problems that would reduce any chance of profit and decided to sell it on separate from his business to avoid giving warranty etc or its been traded in by previous owner.

But either way I've bought the van now .. it is overall a very good van and it will be a great van when it's all fixed . I'm just nervous about how much I put in to it in one go before I've lived in it and travelled in it to see how I get on . And before I sell the other one.

I still prefer the layout , the style and the space it has to any van I've ever owned .

Moby isn't the right van for me regardless.

Been thinking that for a while, but you spoke to him, I haven't.
He's a very good liar that is for sure , he takes everyone in . Because he waffles on about his son so much you feel sorry for him and let your guard down .

Tam this van has huge potential for you and while I am sure you more than pissed that it has so many niggles that you were unable to check out prior to purchase I would be very surprised if it didn’t come good.and quickly.
Just a few lucky breaks and your soon back on track.

It’s great you have Just smiffy to help and keep you focused 🤭

I think if you had this on your mums drive with no parking / time pressures you would be a lot more relaxed about it. You have the next best thing with Sniffy/Smiffy and Jackie. I think the major investment in this will be time, apart from the potentially expensive fridge situation. You'll get there and be glad you did.

Absolutely any problem is fixable Tam, but not always by you and will always cost lots of money, however you bought it very cheap and you took a calculated risk, even if it cost you 10 grand to get it immaculate then you are still winning, as a fully sorted similar van would have cost you that in the first place, the only real spanner in the works would be a new engine if the timing belt gives way, I have no trust whatsoever in Mr Garry ‘s word that it was done or was done properly ……

Yes garry has been fantastic, if he wasn't there I'd be pulling my hair out as I've unfortunately ended up in exactly the situation I was trying to avoid .

Looks like I need a new fridge too 😭😭

This van has a lot of potential. It's just shit that because I live in it I have to prioritise sorting the habitation stuff out before I can make sure the mechanical faults aren't anything serious and aren't going to cost loads to fix.

Put it this way , most of my savings is locked in fixed term bonds which I can't access . So I've a limited amount of savings to spend on the van before I get moby sold. The only other savings I have to access is the money for this year's winter trip. So if I start spending that I might not get to morroco lol.

And I need a job from next march.

I'm a worrier unfortunately so it's there at the back of my mind

Exactly just go back to post 8001 my post and then your post 8009 we both said then he was a complete liar.

Having said that though they are great well built vans, aluminium inside and out once sorted it will be a beauty.

I'm not sure it is worth much more than I paid to be honest . Have a look on ebay just now at similar aged n&b vans and I paid the most .

Yes this is iveco rather than fiat which increases the value as out of fiat merc and iveco the iveco is the best van on these . Best spec, best payload etc

But as there's not another iveco for sale to compare to its hard to tell.

But yes anything can be fixed and I'm sure I'll get there with help.

But I also feel I've put garry in a position now and I'm also worried about that lol.

At least there's one positive , my brain is so full of van shite it's taken my mind off everything that was happening this time last year .

Maybe that's been fate or whatever

It's the warmest , most spacious, quietest, smoothest driving van I've ever owned.

If I can sort everything and have it both reliable and self sufficient then I'll be a very happy man. I know that at least I've no damp issues etc . And you can feel the quality in this van . I'm hoping I'll look back on this time in 6 months and be glad I bought it.

I told Just smiffy today ... if this one doesn't work out then that's it for me ,it'll be back to brick n mortar and a normal job again as there's few options

Look on the bright side......

You have savings
You have a roof over your head
No rent, no council tax, low personal expenses
And 4 great dogs and friends to help you

There you are you have said that yourself.
Be honest Tam you knew it has been standing around for twelve years so you knew there would be problems.
Providing the engine problem isn't serious everything else on the hab side sounds minor.

That's the ones I bought ..

I can't afford to spend a fortune on bulbs right now as there is a list as long as my arm of other things I need to fix first at the minute I have no running water , no fridge, no battery power and an engine with faults , dodgy brakes and only half the lights on the van . I'm already feeling like I've made a terrible mistake. So bulbs are my least worry at the minute but the leds will use much less power than all the Halogen bulbs in here just now .
Pay peanuts, get monkeys. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I'm hoping so ....garry is telling me my fridge is fecked I think and the price of one of those is scaring me a little.

And there is motivation to put worries to the back of your mind and get stuck in.

It will work out.
You will sort it.
You will go to Morocco this coming winter.

Positive energy is what sorts problems.

Easy to say but it’s also a fact.

Garry Just smiffy is one positive guy so suck it up and make it happen 👍

It's not that simple ... fuel filter etc needs replacement and I want to try running it off a can of petrol first incase the tank is full of shit. But other stuff has taken priority. Once I have the taps replaced and no water leaks etc I can take a look at that.

Might need a fridge first too as all my food is going off the fridge isn't getting cold on gas and only slightly on 12v or mains which I believe means its knackered. A shame as its in cracking condition otherwise.. looks better than any I've had on other vans .

But I don't know sod all about them , can it be fixed? I don't really want a compressor fridge I prefer 3 way fridge

Everyone has their own opinions but I wouldn’t spend money on a very old genny, all about priorities I would maximise solar and lithium , and run a big compressor fridge, nothing worse then throwing away food, then making sure that everything water and heating and gas are in tip top condition , that makes for a comfortable living environment, on the chassis side of things, make sure that the engine is properly serviced, all fluids , injectors, all belts exhaust , nothing worse then a van which doesn’t run properly,
Then of course sort all brakes and bearings, which is easy peasy after the practice runs with moby,
Injectors can be tested, hopefully fuel pump will be ok👍

Is it a 7000 series fridge freezer with a seperate freezer above the fridge?

Have a word with Richard n Ann he converted a 3 way to compressor you can get a kit for around £500 a bit cheaper than 2 to 3 grand for a new fridge.

Maybe will not cure your fridge problem but when ours stopped working efficiently (was during a hot spell) I had read somewhere about taking the fridge out, turning it upside down for 24 hours & refitting. Hubby just laughed at me but I did persuade him to try & it worked. Still a good working fridge 2 years later.

He’s plugged in now so no power problems, its a good van and I like it… the trouble with Tam is he sees the whole situation rather then breaking it down into what’s actually wrong with it.. eg: change bulbs buy a couple of taps cleaning scrubbing possible new burner for the fridge other little niggles that aren’t expensive to put right, just time and elbow grease.

The main thing now is the fridge, new like for like expensive so second hand or go compressor which is cheaper and in my opinion better so besides the solar and necessary bits to go with it and new batteries which Tam already knew he would have to do it’s not really a lot of money needed to put it all right. All the other things like mechanical can happen to anyone with any motorhome at any age and time so that has to be factored in, but I don’t think much is or anything wrong with it..

I’ve told him he can stay for as long as it takes us to get it all sorted, Tam is a fecking worrier and moans about what next to go wrong where as I am a let’s get off our ass and get it sorted one issue at a time but I have to admit that once we got one problem solved another was created from it..😆

I haven’t seen anything wrong yet on it that we can’t fix, and in the great scheme of things not a lot of it will cost a lot of money to put right and once it has it will be a fantastic van that will see him good for many years to come…😎

Did you not have a domestic fridge in a previous van ?

nice one Gary I'm sure between you it will be sorted it just needs a couple of things to go right to give him a bit of faith in it

You're the second person to tell me that tonight so I might just give that a try
