Is there anyone who doesn't go to Benidorm?

I'll try and explain the fascination..

It's because Benidorm is so unique, it's fantastic. I do try to visit other places on the way, some are mildly interesting, maybe a good beach or something but you soon get bored of the same old same old.. It's a bit like visiting different cities in the UK, sounds interesting at first but you soon discover most of them are all the same 🥱

In Spain it's the same old dry dusty countryside with monasteries, mountains, scruffy villages... When we arrive in Benidorm the holiday begins! 🤩

Get the motorcycle off the back of the van, go for a ride, buy some beer, visit the beautiful beach, go shopping, then back to the pool for a cooling swim, then get ready and go for a stroll down the road, eat in one of the many excellent cheap restaurants then see the Spanish Beatles with a pint or 2 and walk back to the van... The perfect day.

Next day could be totally different but just as perfect:
Waterpark
Old town
Flea market
Benidorm market
Altea market
Gaudalest
Albir beach
Ponente beach
Finestrat shopping mall
Finestrat beach
Villajoyosa
Alicante (45min ride)
And lots more

😍 we're ready to make our way home after 6 weeks though

This year Aneta wants to see Gibraltar so we'll probably go a more direct route through the middle of Spain, you never know, there might be something interesting 😂. And the up the coast to BENIDORM 🥰🫶

Right, now you all know. No more questions 😝
Nope, none of that appeals to me - apart from the old town but there are hundreds of old towns all round Spain, all different, all facinating. Big towns, crowds and 'lively' are the things I travel to avoid.
I drive past there most years as I'm touring round Europe, touring is the whole point of having a motorhome for me and I've travelled to a dozen countries in one over the years, a dozen different cultures, many different languages and people, many differect customs, foods, drink, scenery, history etc.

I haven’t knowingly met anyone who’s had sex with a horse but an ex police officer friend arrested someone in the act. The offending chap was most upset that they hadn’t waited as he was nearly done so presumably it can be fun :giggle:
I hope it was a consenting horse.

Did he plead not guilty on the grounds that it was a stable relationship?

My mates and I got an invite, from a bunch of Ark Royal Matelots when we were tied up near them in Port Said about 60 years ago, to go shoreside with them and see a consenting female having sex with a horse.

Does that count? 😄

We, of course, being fine upstanding young men, declined (AND we were knackered after a hard days diving!) 😄

Benidorm is the worst place to visit. Please don't come and join us it's already too busy with brits. It gets too warm. The food and drinks are far too cheap. The people are really too friendly .it's not what the majority of funsters want. Tapas at 8 euros, with a bottle of cheap rosado cava and a choice of 6 plates. Absolute rip off.
A beach front you could die for that's cleaned up daily .No litter and no graffitti the local council spends too much. And don't get me going on about cycle lanes they are everywhere a flaming nuisance.
Plus the extortionate cost of the local buses that run every 15 mins how dare they charge less than 1 euro for a ride out to Albir, an extortionate charge for a modern bus. 2 weekly markets that sell almost anything you need from local fresh fruit and veg to handbags and shoes for the ladies. Prices are far too low so there must be something wrong.
And parking. They don't charge you and there lots of car parks close to the centre. Really inconvenient..
Benidorm? Just stay away and leave it for the folks that enjoy it.

I get the impression from posters that the only parking is cam[sites.

If I am correct we will not be going.
No, we found a public parking lot just up the hill a little (10 minute walk down to the coast) where you can park up for the night. No services though.

It would be boring if we all liked the same things. We love Spain and France, just pottering about. Lots of history even when we revisit places we’ve been to many times.

For some reason though we really haven’t enjoyed our visits to Germany, nothing grabs us, ghastly food, everything looks much the same. We will visit Berlin as the history will be interesting and will drive through en route to places we want to go to but otherwise nah!

Pretty certain I would not like to join the 3m visitors each year, and they probably wouldn't want us as an additional 2 either.
Actually low compared with 6.9m Rome, 5.5m Florence, 5.7m Venice but would prefer the history of these three

We have been in Benidorm over Xmas and New Year and still here.

We have been all over the world. Train across the length of Russia, Mongolia and China. Bussed around Central America. India from top to bottom. SE Asia. Worked in West Africa and Central Asia. Train across Uzbekistan from near the Aral Sae to Tashkent.

And in the van as far east as Ukraine and south to the Sahara. And all over Spain.

Yet I cannot think of a better place through Christmas and January. The climate is pleasant, you can walk in the hills, eat tapas, old town, beautiful beach etc. But for us it is also that there are happy people around with entertainment and the place isn’t a ghost town unlike a lot of coastal Spain in winter.

I get some people like solitude and it isn’t for everyone but some of the comments on here are just snobbery and classism.

My only criticism of the place is that there needs to be a bit more rock and punk music 😝

Benidorm.

I don't do beaches.
I don't drink alcohol (anymore).
I don't watch "Tribute" acts.
I hate drunken behaviour.
I didn't stay long enough to "explore".
I hate crowds walking around.
I am a miserable old sod.
I won't be going there ever again.

Isn't that jumping to conclusions about an awful lot of people? I am acutely aware that a lot of people enjoy the place, others like me, did not. Equally I do not like, Blackpool, Scarborough, Great Yarmouth, Southend etc, or any of their overseas equivalents but that is nothing to do with class or with snobbery. I just do not like the sort of environment. For what its worth I equally do not like opera, ballet, most classical music or horse racing. Neither can I see anything in F1 or rock climbing. It doesn't mean that I object to others enjoying those things. We have some very good Funster friends in Benidorm, or on the way, and I am always happy to hear their experiences. Despite Jim commenting that not liking Benidorm makes us miserable gits or similar,:LOL: I hope you and my other Funster friends enjoy it, but I will not be joining you.

To be fair any large town or city is less than attractive to us, and we have been to many, and much prefer quieter to busy places, but that's a million miles from 'solitude'. Neither have I read in this thread anyone saying anything other than stating their personal preferences. It's a good job Funsters have many differences or you wouldn't get within 100 miles of Benidorm in Winter with I guess 50,000 vans all trying to find a pitch. Have Fun, because that's what it's all about, but please do not believe that what is right for you is right for all.

We found ourselves in Benidorm in the autumn of last year. Stopped at a campsite and walked into the town. Found a good restuarant for lunch, another for morning coffee and a decent supermarket. Walking along the promenade in the evening was very pleasant. Then we found Villajoyosa just to the south which we liked very much.

We love Benidorm! We have spent a lot of time there. Camping Raco is great, more organised than La Toretta down the road, and the Bamboo Chinese restaurant is brilliant. Take the bus to the Old Town to enjoy tapas and some Cava Rosado!
Last year we took a second line apartment in Albir. We were there for two months in early Spring. Great value restaurants and we both put on two stones...
The ferry is booked for March 30th!

I see nothing that could truly be called snobbish or classist but you clearly have. That is your prerogative, as it is mine. Rather I have seen some wonderful examples of pomposity and one-upmanship. However, we generally do not draw attention to such attributes in others on here. Be nice to each other. but accept we are not all the same with the same values. the 'some' was underlined to indicate just that, but its a very small number.

Only 1 year into MH and trust me I would rather stay in Newquay Devon (never going to happen) than Benidorm. But a few miles down the coast from Newquay is St Agnes a little gem that we return to regularly. Small changes can make big differences. Probably will head South in Europe winter 2025, that was part of the plan for getting MH. Benidorm not on wish list. Pyrenees, Picos de Europa, we have time will come up with a plan.
Last time I went to Newquay, I was shocked. I could not believe my eyes as to how dirty the place was. As for the locals!.

Benidorm has a lot to offer, not just the weather and beaches.

Then there is so much you can do around the area. Sierra Bernia Hikes, Falls D'Algar, Jalon Valley, walk to the cross, Russian Church, Altea, Trams to Alicante City. Endless choices
