Is there anyone who doesn't go to Benidorm?

Never Been.

Mostly because my parents went there on their honeymoon,
they went into the local bar (there was only one) and they refused to serve my mother as she was a woman.

My parents were also sunbathing on the beach.
The Cariberini came over and fined the lady on the towell next to them, as she had dared to actually wear a BIKINI !!!!!
As my mother was in a one piece swimsuit, she was tolerated.

My mother said, "never go back" so we never have (at least not since 1957).
Ok, but the country has changed a bit :LOL:Franco died 50 years ago.
Although I don't like the concept and wouldn't never go there on vacation.
But each to their own and that's good.

Always been put off by the TV program and reports we read about the place from various sources. However we were passing last October and decided to book in Camping Villasol for a couple of nights to see what it was all about. Have to say we did quite enjoy it though didn't spend too much time on the "strip" area. Plenty of interesting places to walk and cycle to from the campsite and we also enjoyed some of the tribute acts in the evenings. We ended up staying again a few weeks later and will go again in the future.

Pat and I went twice a year for many years up until November 2018, Pats mum became seriously ill so we couldn’t leave her so in 2019 we sold our 2 year old motorhome as it was standing idle.
2020 pandemic and Pats mum passed away, I was then diagnosed with wet macular degeneration and had to have monthly eye injections.
Anyway were determined to get back to Benidorm this year for Christmas and New Year, the only thing that will be strange for us is taking our dog Roxy now that we’re no longer part of Europe.
We no longer have a motorhome but a VW T6.1 Kombi with a king size bed and inflatable awning for living and cooking so we will have to book a campsite for a few weeks.

The big cross was put up on the hillside to overlook the town and ask forgiveness for the towns 'nudity' and other sins in the resort 😊

If you have actually been and don't like it it just means you haven't found the right bit. Benidorm is huge and there is something there for everyone.

Maybe you're old and had a walk up bar street at 1am.. You might be a bit scared 🤣

I went there is the mid '70s, before most of the vast forest of high-rise hotels were built, towed a caravan down there behind an old landrover and stayed at Camping Armenello - which a quick google tells me is still there but much changed.
No, wouldn't want to return - not my idea of a holiday at all. We stay away from the hubbub, glitz and kiss-me-quick type places and their prices as well.
Give me a small rural or coastal place any day.
I struggle to understand why some would buy a motorhome, drive a quickly as possible to Benidorm, pitch up on one site untill their 90 days are almost up, then dash back to the UK. Why not just rent an appartment and fly over?
Maybe that's just me?

Other than me and Mrs Moto?

ME! Have always avoided Spain during my working life after a couple of previous bad experiences already explained and fate ( and freezing conditions after I retired meant that I never go there before I reached 80.

One should try EVERYTHING at least once in life! 😄

I admit I have been there. In 1995 I was taking my partner's XJ900F to her in Murcia (where she taught English at the University) during the UK's February half-term. It was freezing until well past Barcelona. I gave up and went into "Beni" as I was cream crackered. Before Monarch Airlines went t*ts up I flew out from Luton to Alicante and got the bus to Murcia in every holiday including the long summer ones!

I stayed in a small hotel that was occupied by diddy-men and women from the Basque Region. I got a single room for one night. "All inclusive" as it turned out. I have no idea where it was apart from the bottom of a hill with the road bending to the right and the beach was about 50 yards away. Never found it on Google Maps since and can't remember the name.

Other than that..... Not for me although I do fancy a warm place next January....

Only 1 year into MH and trust me I would rather stay in Newquay Devon (never going to happen) than Benidorm. But a few miles down the coast from Newquay is St Agnes a little gem that we return to regularly. Small changes can make big differences. Probably will head South in Europe winter 2025, that was part of the plan for getting MH. Benidorm not on wish list. Pyrenees, Picos de Europa, we have time will come up with a plan.

We live just over an hour south of Benidorm, if we know friends from the UK are there on holiday, we drive there for a few hours to meet up. We are booked in site there in March for 2 night to meet some friends who are on their way down in their motorhome. Joined them last year there for St Patrick's day last year, that was insane, so going a few nights before.
We were touring the UK in the motorhome last summer, went to Paignton and Torquay for a day. Give me Benidorm anytime over them 2 places.

We’ve been a few times for 5 or 6 weeks and had a wonderful time. Had no idea what to expect. Just went to try a bit of winter sun.

Remember our first arrival at Villasol very well, nearly didn’t last 24 hours! We missed the motorway exit so came off into city centre in November on Carnival day! Ended up on a narrow street with a Policeman waving at me to stop, I think the look of horror/terror on my face shook him up so much he suddenly waved me through!

The next morning was Wednesday market day and we wandered around and then past Tiki bar getting more horrified. We wandered back to the van feeling very dejected having decided we’d move on. We’d paid for a couple of weeks. However we bumped into Sheddy and the lovely Pam and Brian(sadly no longer with us) who took us under their wings and we stayed 5 weeks.

It has great public transport links . Claire loved coming to visit for a few days whenever we stayed. I’m not a night owl nor a drinker but it has its own charm.

We have fantastic memories of stays at Villasol with great friends Brisey and Pam.
Some excellent tribute acts in the bars.
A stunning promenade to walk.
Walk to the Mirador Serra Gelada. A beautiful walk with terrific views or hike up to the cross.
One of the best ridge walks for the energetic is to walk the Serra Gelada to Albir and get the bus back.
There is beauty there if you are prepared to look for it.

We booked 7 nights last year at La Torreta. We last 4 days before packing up and leaving the delights of Benidorm forever. Oh, and for 2 of those days we went out in the motorhome somewhere else.

Benidorm itself is definitely marmite…

The surrounding area, particularly the next bay North with Altea and Albir are loverly!
Villajoyosa to the South is so pretty as well with all the different coloured houses and the fantastic beach. That’s where the British owned garage was who sorted our brakes. He came out at 18 on his holidays and fell in love. Must be about 50 now.

We have had enough after 4 day's normally free parking behind the hospital and we then need to find services 😜 well that's our excuse. 😁
We have been on El Raco but prefer Arena Blanca for campsites not bad and easy walking.🙂
But Benidorm is what it is lively and cheap we had a day visit already this year. :Eeek:  Bob.

Never. Nothing there appeals to me, mainly because it is full of Brits. I like my Europe, European.
There are more Dutch and Germans than there are Brits, especially at this time of year.

I struggle to understand why some would buy a motorhome, drive a quickly as possible to Benidorm, pitch up on one site untill their 90 days are almost up, then dash back to the UK
Possibly for the same reason the Dutch, Germans, and Belgians do the same for 180 x days. 🤷‍♂️

Cheers,

Jock. :)

have never ever been to Spain, but always hoped to go and see what I call the real country, not the beach resorts, but I guess a visit to beni would have been necessary to get a true picture of what it’s all about..
can’t knock it if you’ve never been..
