Greece 2022

Now waiting to enter the boarding section at Patras ferry port. I have already seen one migrant climbing under a HGV in broad daylight and hoping to get through the security check in gate. He is not hard to find and I suspect they just release him and he will try again until he succeeds.

Have a safe ferry trip back and a lovely trip home.

We’ve really loved following you Phil, and hope to use your thread as our itinerary soon! (y)

So watching these illegals is quite fascinating. I've now seen 3 of them within the space of 40 minutes. One underneath a lorry and anouther heading past me towards the inner security area of the port. One leaving the port who quickly ran across the road and up and over the 2 security fences in seconds. He then headed off in the direction of a large derelict building and I suspect this will be home to many. Security on the outer part of the port seems to be non existant and officials seem tired of the situation. These young guys look very fit and under the wrong circumstances could be a big threat to personal safety I suspect.

Now inside inner security fence and a decent search undertaken by security as we entered. Also, police here watching obvious entry point as apparently they climb over inner fence only to be ejected for them to try again. Police dog now barking at one HGV inside inner security corden.
Stunning views from the port. Will be boarding soon.

I see I could not convert you from Mythos to Amstel then.

Kalou Taxidi !
Amstel will always have a place in my heart. It was the favourite beer of a soilder I served with many years ago who has sadly passed on.

Hope your trip went well on the boat, don't forget to check your shower for migrants, it was great meeting up with you both on the Peloponnese. Maybe have a drink on next meet up.

We're now back in Italy and more or less doing in reverse what we did on thr way down in May. The Marina we stopped at after coming off the ferry now has a lot of signage up advising campers and others what the daily parking rate is. The beach is also very busy now and whilst it was bare on our outward bound journey you can see from the picture below its busy now. At 07.55 parking warden was at our motorhome informing us we were parked in the wrong area. The whole parking area was empty and I had purchased a parking ticket and was leaving anyway so he was happy enough at that but hung around until we left. A bit of a jobs worth.
A very large shop at Lidle and anouther 2 hour drive up the toll road sees us back into the sosta at Frontemare. Empty when we first visited it, now 3/4 full. We will stay here for 5 more nights. Its 26 degrees today and we have had a small shower already and for us we enjoyed that very much.

Glad you crossed OK.

The photo shows lots of beds and umbrellas but not that many people.

Personally I cannot stand those regimented lines. Even more I hate where the council has granted licences to fill the whole of a small cove beach with them and those that like lying on the sand have no space.

Fortunately I know Greek islands where this does not happen.

Welcome back to Italy. We stayed at San Marino for 2 nights as boat was 3 hours late leaving Greece it was well worth the visit. Safe journey home and maybe meet again. Thanks for you tips 👍

My pleasure and Mena says hi. I always get a kick when people thank me for any help/advice/recommendations I give. We both like you as a couple and look forward to meeting up again if chance plays it part. I will be quick to remind you that you owe me a shed load of drink for my services. Keep Safe.

And so we're now settled in to Frontemera again and blow me if Maria only recognised me tucked away amongst all these handsome Italian men. There's a lot to be said for short fat ugly Brits with attitude I guess. Anyway, the temperature is perfect, loads of families here enjoying themselves and vwrt well behaved too. We're sitting here seeing off thr last of my Mythos and then I have one bottle of Greek red to get rid off before attacking some very fine Italian red in the coming days. The sea is minging and the beach manly but loads of little fresh shellfish shops and restaraunts on thr beach. Campsite about 3/4 full.

I said I would post some pictures of the views we had from the ferry when departing Greece for Italy. It was lucky for us being on the right side of the ship and next to large open window spaces. We got our chairs out and enjoyed the views and the breeze.

Hello just to ask
we have crossing booked at end of August, been on hold 2 yrs due to Covid, we paid extra when we rebooked, ( Viamare) in January.
Thought I read or heard that the Ferry companies were charging a supplement to cover the increase in fuel charges
Did you find that to be the case?
Just want to be prepared
Thanks

I too booked and paid for our ferry tickets with Viamare. In April I received an email from Superfast saying they were introducing a fuel supplement and it would add anouther 100 euros plus to our ferry costs. Vimare confirmed this did not apply to us as we had already purchased our tickets. When crossing from and to Greece and Crete we were not asked to pay any additional sums and were very impressed with both Superfast and Blue Star. They did a top, top job. Safe Travels.

Thanks for the info
Have not had any e mails from Superfast or Viamare, so hopefully will not be asked to pay
Looking forward to getting back to Greece, our favourite destination
Safe journey home.

Does anyone know when the ferry services from Italy to mainland Greece stop in the autumn or reduce dramatically? Might be tempted to go later this year then the usual September journey

They run all year apart from a week or 2 beginning of January, but 'camping on board' is only permitted from 1 April to 31 October (Anek and Superfast).

I'm guessing "Non Filtrata" means "Unfiltered". Any idea what that actually means? What type of beer is it?

Looks like its from Sardinia, unfiltered means its a bit cloudy. ;)
