Greece 2022

When we arrived here the car park was empty and we decided to park at the end. Now it's full with more and more cars arriving. The police have swung by and gave us a friendly thumbs up and a local has told me tomorrow will be even busier as its coffee Sunday. So, we will move across the road next to the beach.

Looks like a very nice spot, just our sort of place.

Could the name be Paralia Agapes? Which looks similar on the map and just a few kms E. of Corinth Canal?

It's sodding rammed now! Car park full, beach side road parking full, large gravel overspill parking, full. Cars crusing looking for a space. I'm occupying 4 spaces and not a single cross word. I'm sitting on my step watching. I think we have now peaked and it will taper off from here onwards. Nice people.

It's 21.12 and one or two now leaving. Great, were now a t 28 deg and a nice breeze. Kick off at 22.00 and I've found a bar that is showing the game. I'll wander down and see if I can get in.

We have just watched Rick Stein in Thessaloniki talking food and in particular stuffed filo pastry breakfasts. Then he moved to the blue beach side taverna’s serving salted fish, just scrummy.
We have been to Greece several times to support my brother was competing in enduro rallies based around Serres. I think with this combined with your reports it’s time to start planning a return visit.

We moved to the corner of the car park this morning so as to display good manners as we're told last night Sunday is coffee day and the car park would be full to overspill today.
This has proven to be the case and we are now taking shelter in one of the cafes and joining the locals with coffee. I'm having double expresso and expecting to take off in about 15 minutes.
Found an old Bofors gun on the Quay side too.

One of the things I've see here which makes the table service very slow, is staff appear to be assigned to specific tasks and will not cross over to share the load and speed things up. Here this evening for examplr we were waiting quiet a while to place our order and two females were basically doing nothing other than adjusting chairs, cleaning tables and a bit of preening on the side. When I asked them to take my order they went to the young guy who was clearly busy dealing with customers orders and told him a very distiguidhed looking gentleman accompanied by an Irish Redhead wanted to place his order and we had to wait until he came to us which he has now done. On the other hand, I think there may be anourher reason why staff are reluctant to take my order and she is sitting next to me. Just a thought though.

Sorry to bother but did you need a health declaration form and contact tracing form, its just popped up on our ferry booking, really confused we thought that was all finished 😕

A valid vaccination record required and checked when entering France and Greece. No requirement for PLF. However, I have not looked at todays requirements.

Heraklion. Now sitting on Quayside across from ship waiting to board and still mistyfied how I managed to get in here. They must have closed every road around the port.

The signposting is pretty dodgy too............. What's your plan tomorrow morning?

Long drive to campsite. Camping Grammeno.
We have done our last diesel top up at 1.76 and re filled our two 6kg Gaslow tanks and that last a whole month when Wilding. We're pretty much rammed with supplies too and Mena has fresh batteries in her Executioner and anything that moves is very quickly zapped. I'm just keeping my distance as she takes no prisoners when it comes to mass slaughter.
Our boat for tonight.

Wow, that is quite a long haul on Cretan roads. Although the north coast motorway isn't too bad. I'd have thought the ferry to Chania would have been a better bet?

How many hours is the crossing?

Is the Campsite at Palaiochora, is so that's a good old drive from Heraklion, Chania is about a third of the distance but if you're not in a hurry then enjoy the views. The drive from the A90 will certainly be interesting.
Have a fab time in Crete we love it there the people and food is so different than the rest of Greece, the locals say they are Cretians first and Greece second.

Around 3.1/2 hours to campsite. Camping Grammeno.

I am surprised that a ferry that size has only one boarding ramp, but I suppose on that route quick unloading/reloading are not paramount.

Only 5-6 MHs? Or were you early?
