Greece 2022

We have now arrived at our next stop and will go no further South whilst in the Peloponnese. The drive here required good concentration as it was very hilly with lots of hairpin bends and sections of the road, especially through small villages and some seaside resorts were single file only and needed good cooperation with drivers of on coming motorhomes and HGV.We are now seeing loads and loads of motorhomes on the road and this morning a Dutch tour group, I suspect with numbers displayed in their front window, I would say there were at least 30 plus motorhomes in this group. The drive here was incredibly scenic but little to no pictures taken..
The place we are at is in a private car park and levelling blocks are needed and very little space. We had to park crosswise from the direction the owner wanted to put us in and said if we had to park at a different position we could not get level and would leave. She agreed we vould stay as we were. Its a tiny cove with great swimming opportunities and worth the visit. Just a bit of a gamble with the parking space. We will move on tomorrow.

A toilet question. :giggle: How do you get on with emptying the cassette with all the FLT stops you do?

We only put urine in the cassette and thus it is easy to empty in a sand hole or on waste ground without conflict. Not found any French vans yet as I usually pour it under there van. For solids and tissue we use a combination of Bog in the Bag and a dedicated tissue bin. Mena has found this easy to use and happy with the hygiene aspects. I'm happy to hang my arse out of the window and let fly. We have a spare cassette but have not needed to bring it into play yet. It's easier than I thought it was going to be.

I did a little write up on how to get water, empty loo etc while in Greece, might help someone...

Hi phil, we were in porto kagio a few days ago after coming down clockwise. Recommend kotronas Harbour as a stopover. Very pretty and very Greek. The local fishermen are friendly.

Good practical advice, please remember if your using someone toilet as an emptying station use chemical in your loo and spray afterwards, that way the next guy who asks stands a good chance of being able to empty his toilet too!

Thanks and on our route North from here heading up to Pireaus.

I fully endorse your write up there.

Last year for dumping grey and black waste on Patmos we got lucky, because a Swiss friend of ours (same birth date/year as me) has a house there and told us there is a sewage pumping station at the bottom of his road, so we could just stop, lift a metal lid and tip into a big chamber. Ideal as it was en route on most of our island journeys.

Perhaps people should look for similar - there must be many in Greece.

When dumping there one day our 9-12? year-old starter battery failed. Phoned Greek bar owner at marina, who I have known for years, and 20 mins later an auto-mechanic was with us, took battery and returned with new one 30 mins. later. Well I have been a friend of the island for 40 years. :giggle:

Pete pjay, when did you first go to Greece and when first in MH? This was our first MH visit but 30+ years with my boat - strangely it did not feel much different from the boat - just the other side of the waterline.

I had a look in the two buckets the guys took off the fishing boat about 10-15 lobsters in each one. They would not let me take a picture and i'm guessing they may have been undersize but looked handsome.

I hope you meant to say NO chemicals as you may be emptying into a cesspit or tank.
Or at least safe chemicals. Sgtinking out the local taverns won't make you popular.

2001 with our Mobilvetta Geoff, on the old Minoan rust bucket 'Erotokritos' out of Venice, we were at the front of the queue. Boat never made it to Patras, broke down in Corfu so we had to swap ships at silly o'clock in the morning to continue, not good when you've had a 'few' drinks camping on deck the night before.
Much better return trip with a nice view of the Grand canal past St Marks Square in the morning

If 2001 was really your first visit to Greece it must have been quite an adventure taking the MH there. At least I knew the country well before.

More hill, more hairpin bends, more narrow road, more pot hole but very, very scenic drive to Kotronas Harbour, as recommended. One small family on beach. Looks perfect.

Just as I remember it Phil, can you stop posting these pictures please, its giving me severe withdrawal symptoms. :envy: :giggle:

It's truly beautiful there ... in fact our first trip to Greece in a mh has been fantastic all round. We're in stoupa now, its more touristy here but in a low key way. Lovely sandy beach and lots of lovely little tavernas.

It's 10.15 a.m. and 24 deg. Some of the little fishing boat and one boat attracted a lot of attention. As there coming in two vehicles always arrive and I wonder if the bid for catches or already have an arrangement with each boat. I did see one of these chaps gutting and cleaning fish at the Quay side this morning and depositing in the white foam insulation box before heading off.
Anyway, I had a look at what was the big attraction and saw these big beautles. A few hundread euros each I would take a guess at.

It's hot today, to hot to go on the beach and we're sheltering inside the motorhome. Mena decided to clean the outside of the motorhome using a small basin and a cloth. I broke into a sweat watching her. She has finished now and done a brilliant job. First clean since leaving home. Some motorhomes are gleaming here, their owners must be continualy cleaning them. We did see one big Morello that looked like it had just left the showroom next to it was a long handled washing brush? Whatever floats you boat! Later this evening I will try some fishing from the end of the harbour. The rod is up and I begged some bait off the local fishermen. They have some weird looking fish here and as far as I can make out everything that is caught gets cooked, apart from the dead eels I see discarded next to the boats. Possibly Morey eels.

Sitting down for evening meal. Just simple stuff tonight and unbelievably cheap.

Have you tried stopping at some little mountain village with just one taverna? There's cheap and there's really cheap. 🙂
