Greece 2022

I am surprised that a ferry that size has only one boarding ramp, but I suppose on that route quick unloading/reloading are not paramount.

Only 5-6 MHs? Or were you early?
Yes we were early but at the back end of the que. Looks like very few crossing tonight.

Around 3.1/2 hours to campsite. Camping Grammeno.
Just as you come into Palaiohora there’s a road that forks right take that and you miss the tight streets of the town 👍

Yes I can see that on Google maps.Ill check my Sat nav in the morning before setting off.

Brilliant crossing. 4 berth room too.
Loading took ages and they use all available space.

Well we're finally set up in the campsite. I was a bit disappointed no one was around when we arrived and when staff did finally turn up there were a little surprised my mitorhome was 3 meters high and all the MoHo bays were occupied. When I said I had booked a months stay and had booked several months ago and expressed what my needs were for pitch, quietness etc, it was clear this had not been acted upon. In the end, we settled for a place that may after a lot of manovering and phaffng about end up being ideal. Close to the bar and beach with an offer for an alternative place later if we find it too noisy. We'll, were set up now, more or less and we will see how we get on.

I see you've run into the world-renowned Greek administrative efficiency. Never mind, there are advantages to everyone being so laid back.......

Yes, it can work to advantage: in Kea the junior rank Port Policeman came down to tell all skippers to take papers to the office. I noted that he had no paper to write vessels names. I waited to see about 12 crew go up and said to my German neighbour ''Don't bother - they have enough', but he went anyway. I did not - nothing happened, because they did not know my boat name.

On another Greek island the Port Police office was moved from the port to an old school building on the highest point in the village, which had no windows overlooking the port. Thereafter the Officers only came down for the ferries, but not yachts because they would have had to walk back up the hill.

All excellent stuff for Gilbert & Sullivan

OK Funsters, my posts are going to reduce somewhat as we are now camped here for the next month. I'll post anything I consider noteworthy and pick up again when we leave here as we have anouther 10 days touring the Peloponnese before crossing back into Italy.
A view from the campsite bar which is about 50 feet from where we are at the moment. ( We're moving into one of the dedicated MoHo bays on Friday which is a quieter location).

Doubles as a Banger Racer at the weekend.

We stayed on the shipwreck beach and loved it although when we were there (May 2017) the bar/Taverna was closed. One morning as I was photographing the wreck, a local came up to me and asked about the Sigma 1.4 lens I was using. It transpired that he was a professional photographer and he not only gave me tips on how better to photograph the wreck but also told me that the ship was running illegal cigarettes and booze and it beached in an attempt to out run the coast-guard, police or whatever.

I have loads of photos that I took as it was an overcast morning, the beach was pretty deserted apart from me and the photographer and it was all very atmospheric.

The lovely photos of the thread are bringing it all back and we’re now intending to go back in September/October when it shouldn't be too hot.

Ouzo or souma?

Souma is a dodecanese alternative of ouzo or raki, which is going to amaze you! In Rhodes, it is mainly made from grape marc and wine, which makes the Rhodian Souma so special. You will find souma everywhere in restaurants, or even at cafes. When adding water or ice in Souma, it turns white with water like Ouzo does.
