Greece 2022

Souma is a dodecanese alternative of ouzo or raki, which is going to amaze you! In Rhodes, it is mainly made from grape marc and wine, which makes the Rhodian Souma so special. You will find souma everywhere in restaurants, or even at cafes. When adding water or ice in Souma, it turns white with water like Ouzo does.
No-one ever adds water to Raki in Crete. It would be considered massively sissy........ The Cretans take the business of being a real man very seriously.

Video better for the full facial effects.
It was not pretty. Yesterday the boss sent over a little liquor and I thought this would be the same, so down the back of my throat in good old army style. Nearly ripped the arse out me it did.

Absolutely. I used to be able to hold my own and have downed some right dodgy stuff in my time but the years have taken there toll I'm just a big sissymary now for certain.
You do realise, don't you, that after a lovely meal, most tavernas in Crete will bring out a carafe of raki. And when you finish that, they bring another one, and then another, till you slip slowly beneath the table or beg them to stop...........

And probably the 'Greek' government in Athens sees little duty from the 'Cretan' spirits.

Good morning from Crete. Having a chat with Chris who lives on site and has been here for the last nine years. He said last winter was the campsites best winter yet with respect to people staying at the campsite. I said I suspect your winter is the same as we have in the UK and he said no its not. They have a daily average of around 16 deg's sometimes going up to 10 and at night it averages 10 deg with the lowest 3 deg. He said you can stay overwinter on this campsite for 290 euros a month plus Lecce. Something for the motorhome snowbirds to think about perhaps. Very windy yesterday and forecast till Sunday but dropped last night and just a welcomed gentle breeze today. We are in our own dedicated motorhome bay now and closer to the facilities and a one minute walk to the bar and same again to dip our tootsies into the Lybian sea. Washed the MoHom this morning and it looks a lot better now that we washed a thousand miles plus of shite off it.

I have something else to share with you about metered electricity. Being a bit of a FLT I have to admit to not being up to date on how this works on most campsites. My last experience was an analouge clock type meter where the lecce cable was plugged into that could be read through a glass window. Not here! Chris the Brit has these little electronic boxes connected to your lecce cable and the software inside sends all usage to an app that you have access to. You can see your usage in real time, historical and it also shows you your total cost in Euros to date. I think its very impressive and customer focused. I've not seen this in use in Spain or Portugal especially when I use a FLT lamp post connection.

May just be a domestic that chooses to eat out all day at wherever someone will feed him/her, and then goes home for supper TV and sleep.

Doubles as a Banger Racer at the weekend.
It's a Toyota! I'll get some more pictures as I think its an opportunity not to miss. The guy drives into the campsite most mornings and is one of the maintenence team. It sounds as smooth as silk when the engine is running and looks very, very original because its falling to bits. An absolute beauty imo.

As promised some more photos of this maintenance guy's run-around. I swear he drives it into the campsite each day and the engine sounds like it was built yesterday. The last time I saw it it said Toyota on the rear drop down gate but that is now missing, I thought I might get some more detail from the dashboard but as you can see most of that is missing too. It is however, a thing of beauty.

That pickup is something else. Of course, they only have to pass MOT every two years in Greece. Amazing how things go to pieces in two years if you don't look after them...........

We're eating out ! In a nearby restaraunt that has very good reviews. I'm going for stuffed Kalimari, Mena going for Beef Stefado. A Crete salad and stuffed vine leaves plus a half ltr of house wine each. We will sleep well tonight for certain.
