France Off The Menu.

To stop all the coming & going.
Just as an aside, as there is a lot of 'what if' and how will I be treated type posts with respect to how we will be regarded by officials etc., etc., once we get back to some sort of European travelling. I wrote to the E.U. and asked them how to obtain there new E.U. wide Covid Passport as my old lady and I held E.U. Passports and were UK citizens resident in the UK. I think the term UK citizen may have hit a raw nerve as I received a reply informing me it was only available to members of the current 27 E.U. countries. I read into that reply as Euro speak to 'do one' LOL.
Why would you ask that? It is obvious it would be knocked back.
If you had asked that being an Irish passport holder resident in the Uk how you obtained it that would have been correct.
You still seem to think this will one day be over. It won’t. Either live with it or stay home alone forever.
No I don't nor do I have any idea why you think that? All I want is 20k a day indian, pakistani , etc,etc stopped from travelling all over the world on spurious reasons'visiting family' , avoiding restrictions & quarantine & inconveniencing all the rest of us by yet another variant introduced. I've deleted the next paragraph as I don't wish to be banned save to say that due to this lot I can travel to the UK but can now no longer return due to the French restrictions.
on my NHS app the barcode expires 20th june, not quite sure what that means?
The rules will possibly change on the 21st June.

The 21 st of June is/was planned to be the end of lockdown restrictions hence expiry of barcode on 20th.

There are two NHS Apps. The Track and Trace app and the NHS Digital App. The NHS Digital App requires photo identification acceptance and then linking to your G.P's medical records. This is the App that will show the QR code which is your Covid Passport. We had to jump through a few of hoops and had lots of trouble with the app itself before finally completing the process. Hopefully a lot easier now. Al we need now is confirmation of acceptance by the E.U. and other international destinations.
That’s fine for those of you in England. If there is such a app available in Scotland I have yet to find it.

& there would be plenty of time after this is over to go visiting.

The quote of yours at the top makes me think that you think this will be all over. Now why would I think that?

That didn't apply to me but was a reply from me answering when the indians etc could go on there jollies."when it was all over " I stated .If it isn't going to be over then they shouldn't be going ,to what is a cess pit on a good day, until they are all vaccinated, the vast majority of india is vaccinated & especially when they can't even comply with some basic health regs in there own areas.

I expect we will have to live with this for as long as I have left. What I don't want is people prolonging it for the rest of us by there disregard for the hygiene & health rules whilst in many cases also refusing to be vaccinated. I wouldn't actually allow them to leave the house if they refuse vaccination for no reason.

We haven’t got the app in Wales either , we have to ring a phone number to ask for a letter with essential travel reasons

On where and what were the apps?

Well done you. Current prices are somewhat prohibitive IMO.
We ve booked one way to Santander and hoping that the restrictions are eased by the time we are ready to come back so we can then come back through France. Macron will only be allowed to sulk for so long before the pressure to get tourism going again builds.

Sacre Bleu!

I feel the need to defend Monsieur Macron.

He isn’t sulking.I think it’s called la crise de rage or a tantrum in English.

Once he gets his dummy back he will be fine(y)

No. Health is a devolved matter.
Another fantastic triumph for devolution, recent history has clearly demonstrated how pointless it is, with different rules applied just to be different!

Wales health service is a good example, England has to allow extra capacity in Border areas like Shropshire and Chester because Wales doesnt have enough hospitals although the ones they do have apparently allow free parking!

Sorry to pee on your freshly ignited bonfeu of mixed loyalties but isnt 'la rage' actually rabies?

Out of interest, just priced up return crossing from Plymouth to Santander with a cabin for two seniors.
Price

£1,339

A tad expensive. One could fly, pay for top class accommodation and have change for food and drink at that price.
I paid £600 each way, 2 people in June. Bits that’s only a car with commodore cabins.

July I’ve paid £1,800. 3 adults 3 children. 2 x 4 berth outside with car.

forgotten the price of October

According to Gov.com from tomorrow (31st May) before you leave the UK you have to have a negative PCR test (no more than 48hrs before you leave) - you then have to quarantine for 7 days once in France. At the end of the 7-day quarantine you have to have a negative French PCR test and then on return to the UK further hurdles!!!!!
The BIGGEST problem is Macron, not Covid. He hates the British and will do anything to cause Brexit to fail, even if it damages his own country’s economy.

Nothing to do with the fact that we have another albeit small at the moment outbreak?

Haha it doesn't need French help to fail.

Not this time I think. Notes from SAGE indicate that they are concerned as well and it could go either way. Our politicians are being gung ho again.
Some, including me would see it as being positive re the new variant and believing in the vaccines.
Others like to be as negative as possible and will go out of their way to find anything that might, could, maybe, possibly cause us more problems. Luckily the ones making the decisions seem to be in the let’s look forward and be positive camp.
Sorry if you don’t like that.

Some can continue to bash the french and macron, but imv it was probably the right thing to do, ie see what happens over a few weeks.
Don’t get me wrong I am no friend of macron but he has done nothing that we have not done to other countries including France.
Don’t forget they will also know we let in 20,000 odd people in when we should not have done.

Looking at our numbers in hospital and deaths. I don’t know the numbers for France but strongly suspect they are higher. It seems a little like macron being his usual anti British.

That’s probably true in part, but you can’t blame them for swift action, our government ought to learn a thing or two regarding “swift action “
