I never though of that? I'd assumed one had to be back and the other further back

Don't think that should have made a difference because, on mine, the 12v only works when the engine is running?

An "Arctic Air" cooler from Kaufland in Konstance where the night time temperature was high 20s. Compact cube that you fill with cold water. The fan then draws the hot air through a wet cartridge. Works on 12 volt USB or mains. Quiet at night and cooled the bedroom down a treat and better than hanging up a wet towel.
