The Big Lorry to Camper Conversion

Save a fortune!!!

If we're showing off work, prizes for who can guess what car it is/was/will be again.View attachment 323914
That was a car ? I was thinking washing machine......
Please don’t be offended. I am the most untechnical person ever. Shouldn’t a car have wheels ?

Hmm video unavailable for me (no option to watch on YT)
Searched his account on YT and can't even see it listed there either. Is it an unlisted video?

Edit... strangely it now works in the quote box ??

Try right-clicking on the video in the box and copy the URL (first option) and dump it into a new browser window

That'll be an Escort if I ever saw one. My first car... Cost £30 :D I bet that one will be £30 grand when it's finished huh.
How do you see a car among that, I wouldn't have put it down as anything like a car, is it head on , side on or what do the girders stay in it?

It's a sat on a jig, it picks up all suspension/engine/gearbox mounts. Then you build the car on the jig, to make sure the measurements are all correct. Your looking at the front inner wings and bulk head, so.. Side on front ??

It's the front inner wings and bulkhead with the "remainder" of the sills and then some seat base and transmission tunnel.. What gives it away is the flat topped inner wheel arches..

No offense intended.

But the question still stands. Is what you are doing outside of regulation ? You still have to insure it and FUN shows they can be quite demanding with a "normal" MH, so it will be up to you to convince them it's sound, structurally, electrically, gas. And if you mention "full time" it all racks up a notch. I don't know if you are thinking of fulltiming but it's one hell of a build for a holiday vehicle.
If you can make a large garden shed road legal with 400 horsepower I'm sure a 7.5 ton box van will be fine ??

Great thread! I’m looking forward to seeing your progress :)

Will the screws holding the aluminium panels compromise the waterproof skin when you take them out after the adhesive takes hold?

Only just caught up with this thread, loving it.

Response to Sally, aluminium sandwich panels cost lots of money, I don't have that. The aluminium will be glued to foil backed insulation, which is then glued to 9mm ply, so I'm making my own insulated composite panels. That is a strong panel at cheap cost. The whole body cost £3.5k. Including the aluminium, insulation and ply.
Why 9mm when you don't need it for strength I would have thought 3mm more suitable.

Have you thought what you'll do for steps in and out?

And what about a colour scheme? Or vinyl wrap? ?

I can't believe how fast this is coming together

I did all the work already, just uploading the photos slowly so I don't have weeks between updates ?I'm not superman, probably 3months in. Trying to hold down a job and weather is a major hold up.

So all of our advice and comment is time-warped into the distant past and is absolutely useless! Cheers for that!
You only had to read the first post ?‍♂️
