Starlink ordered… I feel it’s the only sensible option now..

That is confusing sorry?

Are you saying using a VPN to hide your country and not telling your company is unadvisable? If so I totally agree.

But if the IT dept doesn't want you to use a VPN to secure the connection that would confuse me. Most decent companies that are big enough to have an IT dept should offer a direct VPN onto the company network anyway for security purposes.
Sorry, didn't mean to be confusing. Yes they have their own VPN. But they can obviously tell where you're accessing that from, and require that if you're logging on from outside the UK you tell them beforehand and get it signed off.

So, if we know that Starlink assigns you a local IP address we just need to plan a bit so we can tell them ahead of time where we'll be.

edited as realised regional roam includes France/Spain etc and i didn't want to confuse people.

how are people getting around the regional roam when using the device in either France/Spain etc when the UK is their home as that is usually a monthly fee of £200 which is very expensive
Have I missed something? The roam covers continents. So for us being in Europe there is no extra charges. Only if you went to the Americas or Asia etc?

ah apologies, i thought it was just the UK which is a relief, only ordered yesterday and its already shipped which is super quick considering although i can't work out why after changing the plan to regional roam that the service will pause on 15 June as that's over the 14 day which doesn't matter but just wondering how they work it out.

Has anybody tried just leaving the Starlink on standard Residential and seeing if it works as they travel around?

I'm not sure how they 'geofence' the residential boundary, and I'm sure it wont work if you travel to France, but interested in how far you might be able to go to keep the lower residential service plan

don't think that would work as when you login and check your account there is a map bottom left where it shows your home location and gps, so i am assuming if residential and then move it will know you are in a different location and not work. Pure speculation mind you :)

It's around 15 miles I believe. based on cell area.

If left on Standard it is a monthly billing cycle with no option to pause - so for me the change to roam mode is essential as will only use for circa 3 / 4 months of the yr
I guess if you are needing it 24/7 all year it may be worth a try on standard and see how it goes - any issue and change to roam

Yes, for your £85 you get coverage all over Europe ....

It's based on GPS - so they know where you are to a few metres. When I went to Holland (on Roaming) it detected I was there.
On residential, you do get priority data (faster connection during peak I think) ...
You can see some of the information if you connect with a laptop and look at the Debug data at the Local IP address (192.168.1.1) or dishy.starlink.co

Cheers

At the moment they are allowing the change to roam but i wouldn't be surprised if they stop that as they are losing at least £200 per person. can't see it lasting forever really but again its an assumption.

Does anyone know much about this
It has a fair bit of detail but not enough for me to fully understand !
Seems to indicate its a power supply and POE injector all in one device
Does not seem to include any cables
So if I purchase will I simply connect my dish to it via ? Starlink ethernet adapter
Or what exactly
I mentions BYO router so how does it connect
I will email the guy who makes it but wondored if the anyone knew how it all connects and what if anything extra is needed
I will ask him for a diagram of it all connected with his box inbetween

I just ordered one of those as it's by far the simplest way to convert it to 12v, there is a video on this HERE it's all explained in detail

Excellent - Thanks for the link - I had previously started to watch that video and did not finish it - I thought at the time he was making a box for his own previous install. Not the Boondocker kit
As you say very easy to install and just use the vans 12v rather than an inverter
Plug in my little GLI.Net router and it will be a very neat installation
I have ordered
Will see if I can get overlanders box made/printed locally to complete the install
Thanks

Printing this case as he supplied the files to as well to make it all a little neater Here, not sure about the flat mount though as thats a lot of printing and modding but will see, if i cannot get it to work with the existing TV Aerial hole than i will probably go the flat route but will need some guidance on how to seal another hole that i will need in my roof to feed the cables down through :(

I downloaded the print files and just got an online quote for £40 to print just the main top cover - I think I will make a little box out of a plastic container !

blinking hell that's ridiculous if it were for the whole thing it would be more reasonable, mines says 6hours and 38mins to print if it goes well but they rarely do so will wait and see, its printing now although i have no need for it till the power supply arrives and that not till June/July apparently :(

It would be cheaper to buy the case from boondocker as well at that price.

Yes tested a few but ended up with ASA and I’m using a Ender 5 Pro.

Wished I had a bigger print bed.

ASA is hard to print with that's for sure and needs an enclosure in my testing and even then it's not great but i am no expert that's for sure.

The 5G light on my router just went out. Thought oh crap here we go again. Did a speed test.

I still want starlink though lol :)

Mine arrived at somepoint today, been away for a few days and came back to the box just sitting in plain view on the doorstep. :banghead:

Left at 13.41, no cars on the drive
Rings bell and walks off . We got back at 19.30.

Thank goodness it was still there. Terrible delivery service - I understand this sort of thing during covid. As there were not a lot of people out and about there was a lot less chance of things being stolen - But now there is no excuse

If it's inside pla is plenty good enough or for outside petg is good, both easier to print than asa which I have never had much luck with.

Ive decided it would be best to get another starlink dish , for my static, so I can just move the router around from the MH instead of taking the whole kit each time, and for £99.00 its worth it just for the dish.

My question was...does the config, "tie" to the router, so would have to take the one router with me each time? or can I just leave a router and dish in each location on the one roam plan.

I went into my starlink account and "added a new plan" to my account but they wanted £300 for the hardware via the app.

So Ive done a new email address, got one ordered for £99.00 residential and plan to upgrade the plan to roam/mobile when it drops, so it can be paused pretty much permanently hopefully.

has anyone done this or see any issues. Im thinking worst option is Ill only be able to use the dish and have to move my original router with me, but Im hoping I can leave router and dish in each location

No, it is not tied at all: The dish itself contains the router (192.168.1.1 or dishy.starlink.com)
The cable is a modified ethernet cable with a strange connector like a Type C.
The Starlink white box is the mains to 48V POE and a WiFi AP.

So, I don't think you will have any issues ....

Cheers
