Starlink ordered… I feel it’s the only sensible option now..

No, it is not tied at all: The dish itself contains the router (192.168.1.1 or dishy.starlink.com)
The cable is a modified ethernet cable with a strange connector like a Type C.
The Starlink white box is the mains to 48V POE and a WiFi AP.

So, I don't think you will have any issues ....

Cheers
Great info thanks

PS Sorry, you will have two dishes and two plans. But you can pause one and start the other if they are both on Roam ....
Hope that makes sense, didn't read your question well enough!

I'm doing something similar, a backup system for the house, and a mobile one for the van. When I'm away I just pause one and start the other, but they can only be paused at the end of the monthly billing period ...

Cheers

Just wondering can you have two dishies on one app on one phone?

When unpausing will the service start straight away?

The App does two things:
1) When connected to the antenna/router network it allows you to control it (for example stow it, speed tests, network information, obstructions, set ice melting or snow mode etc).
2) It also allows access to your account to pause service, change plans etc.

You can also connect your laptop to the antenna when on the same network (similar to a router), and then you get a web page that allows you to do things such as (1), and also some debug data. You can of course also connect to Starlink.com to do (2) above to adjust tariffs etc.

So it is possible to use the App to effectively control two systems (or more). Physical things when on the same network, accounts for 2 units or more when on the starlink.com portal and signed in.

Tried to make that clear - hope it is :)
Cheers

Yes, within a few minutes if you are lucky!

See their contract:
Section 5.1
Regional or Global Coverage. Starlink Mobile Service Plans (available on “Roam”) allow you to access Services at any destination where Starlink provides active coverage and is designed for low demand, portable, land-based use, such as camping or nomadic living.

The “Regional” Plan allows you to access Mobile Services at any land-based destination within the continent that you place your Order. The “Global” Plan allows you to access Mobile Services at any land-based destination where Starlink provides active coverage around the world.

Mobile Service cannot be used on the ocean or in-motion without purchasing additional Mobile Priority Service data.

Mobile Service can be paused and un-paused at any time. When un-paused, the monthly Mobile subscription fee will be charged immediately, on a pro-rated basis. If you use Mobile Services for more than two months in a country that is different than your shipping address, Starlink may require you to move your registered address to your new location. Starlink Mobile Service charges will be ongoing until you pause the Service via your Starlink account.

Cheers

I understand all that.

My question is can you manage 2 dishies. I understand the local network operations should be easy enough due to being on the same network.

BUT, does it allow you to handle two starlink dishes for billing purposes. The reason I ask is because Tombola used a separate email address for his 2nd dish account. So he has 2 dish accounts with starlink. So my question is can he manage both from one app or will he need to use different phones to do it?

Wouldn't you just log out of one and in to the other in the same phone when needed if you can't manage both from same account.

Some apps are phone based. They use the phone as the login device not a username/password. Thinking of whatsapp off the top of my head.

Not sure this one does as there is a logout button on mine but good point.

Yes - this is my account on one Email, using starlink.com portal:

Two Mobiles are shown. One called RV Starlink, one A1120 for some reason .... It maybe that mine worked on one Email because I already had a mobile one, and added a standard home which I converted to mobile, that seems the logical explanation!

Different question. Tombola has 2 emails.

It won't affect me, but curious.

I seen the answer being yes on starlink website earlier...for "business" unlimited adds to one account but can't see it for others...I'll know soon enough.
I can also choose the " I already have my starlink" option I guess at setup ?...bit confused but we will see.

Mine arrived a couple of days ago. Tested it out while camping this weekend. Dunkirk believe how easy it was to connect and get it started. Very plug and play.

Got 200mbps at one point download
Good isn’t it . No limits to where you can park up now . Best purchase I’ve made for a very long time 👍

It’s been working superbly for me for the last 20 days whilst away at three different camping sites.

The £99 pound offer just makes this even more attractive, especially if you consider that eight weeks ago it was £460 and £95 on roam when I bought. I got some credit so only £300 for the kit and £85 per month now.

I’m not surprised so many have jumped in… 👍🏻

Just need to sort out an elegant 12v power solution, but TBH, my solar is keeping up fine using it via the main inverter for 20 hours per day, so no real rush on that at the moment.

So out of the dish and the router, what determines the authentication with the Starlink service? I’m assuming the dish as many are using alternative routers.

Can’t find the post now, but someone suggested they had bought a second kit as a spare and or second service location and will pauses the service. I’m assuming that won’t work if you install at two different locations (or Motorhome and home) as you will overlap on the months you’re switching from one to the other, so can’t get a clean £85 per month with two systems due to the overlapping billing periods.

I am getting a little concerned about people who are doing things like this as it will cause SpaceX to look at ways of minimising hardware costs. I suspect we will lose these good deals pretty quickly when they realise how they are being "abused" :(

Depends how you look at it business wise.
Won't make any difference to them they are just looking to rack up subscribers and it's happening.

They aren't selling the physical.product to make the profits any more....they are selling it to get subscribers. If "giving away at cost" hardware gets one subscriber then that's a win. The GP this year has enabled them to reach a positive level to turn a profit and instead, and means now they are throwing dishes out at virtual cost price. Everything else paid will go right on the bottom line.
Similar in the way printers are sold and they make money on inks etc.

Watch the subscriber figures next quarter after this dish give away...they will rocket..pardon the pun.

I've just found out today my broadband via BT at my static had gone to 68.00 per.month..(with a bit sport package added). Which again leans toward starlink being a no brainer on a 2 location setup.
Ill be on the phone Tuesday cancelling the bt..
So that's 75 cancelled at house with virgin...68 at static and my ee in my motorhome about 30 I think plus £2.00 per day EU roaming.

And now starlink will be getting £85 .(sometimes.maybe X2 certain months) .plus whatever else due to the dual setup I'm trying..then brackets.
Cables..mesh routers..blah blah..don't worry grommet he is raking it in.

The Everlanders on YouTube demonstrate a 12v solution from Canada, really neat little unit - I think they work out at about £75 delivered.
I doubt it will be too long before Ali Baba, Ali Express, Amazon and eBay are full of them!

Yes this device looks like an excellent all in one solution to 12v supply and POE injection. All u need is your own router
I have ordered for delivery circa 1 month
Hopefully wlll work ok with my little GLI.net router

Yes looks the solution. However, why don't they sell it with a cover? Shouldn't need to 3D print one. I'll wait a few months for one with a cover.

there is a cover its just extra :)

For those of you already using Starlink outside of the UK, are you able to watch UK tv streaming services, Iplayer, ITVX etc? i am assuming if you watch them through a firestick and add a VPN that is set to a UK location, that it all works perfectly well?

in terms of that, who has used theirs successfully to watch UK tv the furthest from the UK ....... this is purely to get an idea of 'scope of use' and not a travel log !

Just need an elegant solution for easily mounting it on the motorhome once pitched up where there is clear sky rather than sitting it on the floor and running out the cable.

Just need an elegant solution for easily mounting it on the motorhome once pitched up where there is clear sky rather than sitting it on the floor and running out the cable.

I’ve said this in previous posts but I’ve sikaflexed two 25mm square aluminium tubes to the roof through which I had mounted four m5 stainless bolts/studs with the correct spacing to correspond with the feet on the standard dish mount.

I’ve also sikafleded a smart white (so it doesn’t stand out) quality plastic box (semi designed for the job as it has glands for the cable) to the roof in which I store the majority of the cable in. There is enough mounted through the roof for use inside to place the router where I have it.

In terms of usage, when we ‘arrive’ I just get my telescopic ladder out, climb up and put the Starlink base and dish over the studs, four wing nuts secure it and connect the cable to the Starlink antenna. Very secure for both wind and hopefully light fingered naughty people alike.

Should where I park be obstructed I can get the cable out of the box and put the Starlink antenna somewhere else on the pitch at ground level…

Yes I want to flat mount the panel at some stage, but so far, it’s proved a very easy solution.
