Starlink ordered… I feel it’s the only sensible option now..

I get how good SL will be for the van in Europe, but still leaves me wondering what to do with my phone (walking out using google maps etc). If I need to get roaming (£2.50 day EE) or another sim its going to get even more expensive??
EE are doing contracts that include EU roaming, I would switch to one of these just for phone stuff.

Download the maps and use offline, you can do it with Google maps or loads of other mapping programs like Mapy, Maps me etc.

Have you not seen the photo? Put your starlink mini dish on your backpack and go for a walk. Just need to carry a massive battery too.
although its not a suggestion i would have offered, just to confirm the battery can be quite small, i have a couple of 20AH lithiums which can power my 12v gen 2 for a couple of hours

I think its only a matter of time. Musk has a couple of times put a post on X asking who would buy a Tesla phone.
Hell will freeze over before I place a penny in one of the companies he owns. What you’re actually saying here is also all national infrastructure independent of a megalomaniac will disappear and that would never be a good thing. Your hard earn cash being give to a selfish American who could have a childish tantrum and switch everything off.

A Tesla Phone! WTF 🤬 track and trace would be at a new level

They can't.It would be illegal under European SEPA rules .an account in any european country is sufficient. Where I have changed to non spanish online accounts for dd's & s/o's I have had to educate a few who 'insisted' upon a "spanish account with only 18 numbers for the IBAN"
Is SEPA rules for EU members….just asking as a lot of banks moved their services out of the U.K. post 2016.

EE - Now £2.50 per day rather than £25 per month?

That's if you add to an existing contract but if you upgrade then you can choose one that has EU roaming included, I was only looking on my EE last night and there were plenty to choose from

Tell EE you are leaving them as you can’t get roaming included with X. They will then say “will you stay with us if we include it”. Or tell them you are a business and then they include it. This s what me and my wife have done. No extra costs, all are data can be used.

The wonderful new world we are enjoying post a certain (unmentionable) event! 😜

Starlink is excellent… show me something as good, or even nearly as good and I will gladly switch!

Get a local sim? A Digi in spain varies from 3€/month for 3 gb up to 15€/month for unlimited.23Gb when out of spain & calls included even in the Uk

No SEPA includes eu members but also non eu ,including the UK.
https://www.ecb.europa.eu/paym/integration/retail/sepa/html/index.en.html

Banks moved there main office out of the UK because they would not have been able to do "passportin" *, trading with eu as the registered office has to be EU based.

*Passporting.= Passporting allows a firm registered in the European Economic Area (EEA) to do business in any other EEA state without further authorization.

I did not say Starlink as a technology was rubbish, what I said was I am not putting money in to a musky corporation, the man’s behaviour does not align with my ethics.

It also has the potential to damage countries comms infrastructure from a commercial perspective and again it’s another American organisation taking money away from our network providers.

But happy that you find the service good for you.

what I said was I am not putting money in to a musky corporation,
He will be gutted, I'm sure.

Know him well do you,?.
Have you seen how much charities and businesses have been helped over the years.

Old "musky" has done plenty.

People call him "musky" etc as if its just him, or they know him..do you really think corporations as big ad that don't have advisors, and votes before major decisions.

Problem is, lots of people judge others by media.

I didn't mean to upset a Musky fan, but it is not just one incident is it they all add up.

Dunno, I don't know what incidents we are talking about . But there has to be balance, surely.
It's that old comment again of why jump on a thread about people discussing merits and uses of starlink, just to dis someone personally.

I'm not upset, and I wouldnt call myself a fan tbh, he is actually a typical old school salesman... full of it, I can say this as I've been on the receiving end of the missed promises.

But the things his companies (even zip2 corp at the start) have acheived and how many people they have made millionaires are remarkable, but because he doesn't hide away and is pretty much on X every day where people can direct message him, people think they know all about him. But in reality it's just the media reports talking out of their mouths.
Then half the comments come from hypocrites.

As I have said before, it's all about choice, and it's not for everyone, I base my choice on what makes it easier for me but if that's not for you then of course that's your choice.

Completely your choice.. I was merely stating that even if I felt the same as you, there is no choice of service (if you’ve an alternative as good I’d be delighted to know), so if one needs (yes we see this as a need) this service, what does one do?

Hmmm not sure I agree in that the world communicates via satellite and submarine cables and a mixture of both. What you’re saying is that as you are in a MoHo you need high speed internet access all the time. Well that’s your choice clearly you survived before Starlink.

He really isn’t a nice guy and quite unpleasant which isn’t surprising given the reports that surround him.

Good to know we have somebody on here that knows him personally as you seem to have such a strong opinion of him.

Any chance you could ask him to remove the 60 days out of country restrictions next time you meet?

Clearly I do not know him personally but I think from his behaviour he is not a likeable individual, although im sure his Mum Loves him. The same as Dyson I have brought products in the past but not over the past 10 years.

As Musk communicates directly with fans via X why not ask him yourself.. you never know your luck,

Its not just me who finds Musks behaviour doesn't fit with their personal Ethics, beliefs and values

I'm in a house & don't need "high speed access" all the time. I need something that actually connects all the time. & no personally I don't like the bloke & would not have it but wife wishes to watch the tv & nothing else works consistently.

When one of the articles said according to the BBC :xrofl:

Enough said

Nothing wrong with Musk. He's prepared to say what most people are scared to these days.

A few people saying they are not going to use his products make a headline set against the millions and millions that will use it.

Worlds moved on in even the last few years. Streaming content is an everyday part of life.. I take it you don’t have broadband or fibre at home?

of course the world has moved on, and continues to do so. I have free to air streaming etc but also have the ability to take films with me along with scrabble chess other games and books to read I’m not reliant on a broadband connection when away. It’s not a must have but nice to have.

This isn’t my point what I have said is that I will not give Musky my money I don’t need anything from his organisations
