Slide and slam the curse of PVCs

may I ask why you think i’m arrogant, selfish and noisy
Try again..... That's not what I said... what I said was quiet PVCers can be as noisy as arrogant, selfish and noisy coach and A class.
Show me please where I specifically mentioned you in that thread????

There are so many snobbish, intolerant, divisive and grumpy attitudes exhibited here.
So many you say, 70 individuals have responded to this thread, the majority of those posters are PVC owners:D less than a handful are moaning, while the rest are making fun of it. As for the Grumpy attitude, I think that was you :D

Quiet poeple in a PCV don't make any more noise than arrogant, selfish and noisy coach or A class owners.
Actually this is what you said

and as a past Coach owner and now an A class owner it looks like you labelled me a being “arrogant, selfish and noisy”

or that how it reads to me

But it only labels you if you were an arrogant , selfish and noisy owner. If you were not he's not addressing you. That's how I read it anyway.

So on the next funster rally the poor marshalls are going to need to herd into respective corners of the field, the generator users, the whoosh bangers, the garage users, the doggy vans. Anyone left gets pitched in the middle and thus benefits from noise coming at them in all directions :)

I have read all this thread to get a perspective on my soon to be new PVC owner life. I was well aware of some peoples methods of closing their doors and the views of those who did not like it, so felt it was important to me.

I hate the noises at home and when camping , particularly during bed time, as I cant sleep through them, but life is what it is. I have for the past 9 years done something about it myself rather than expect others to be less noisy.

I recall my coach built before, with a garage, was noisy to close the doors, so much so I used to take extra special measures to close them quietly, particularly first thing in a morning and late at night. It took a lot of effort and longer to do than just shutting them but it was possible. I don’t recall ever witnessing others taking any similar care. So I suppose what I am saying is it’s more about the individual rather than the vehicle.

I chose, and handsomely paid I might add, for an electrically assisted soft close door on my new van and understand it is whisper quite, I did so for the benefit of others really and my wife as I get up earlier than her whilst trying to avoid, if possible, the attitude towards us that some clearly feel from reading this thread.

I am shocked really at some of the comments in this thread on this forum

We open our door in the morning, it only gets shut fully when either we go out or at bedtime. I’ve looked into a soft / quiet closing option but due to our kitchen layout there isn’t an option at the moment.

Consideration and curtesy for others be it doors, dogs, smoking, BBQ’s, drones, kids, music, people who wear dressing gowns to the ablutions, windbreakers, loud coloured vans…….I say hello to everyone I walk past on sites……(y)

And have to pay extra for the pleasure.

Shame some don't realise it's a bit of fun.

What about the Welsh flag flyers

Yep I've got a auto trail apache 700 and I've just brought a vw transporter 180bhp t6

What do I do now moan at myself for slamming the door on the vw and only wave at vws and then moan even more at how slow I'm going when I'm in the motorhome and only wave at autotrails

Why don't we just say hallo, drink more wine or beer and you won't hear the doors slam. Drive a little quicker as it's only fuel and the miles you save you never notice while driving that 50k plus motorhomes

I have struggled through all the posts as a, usually, coachbuilt owner who has also had a PVC.

We are all in the same lifestyle for similar reasons. My only comment can be….

…..get a grip folks and enjoy life. When the Reaper calls petty squabbles will seem a waste of life hours.

what a can of worms has opened up him & me are keeping our gobs shut . we'll end up driving to Coventry again :snooze:

This is what I can't understand. Most users of PVCs know that their sliding door is noisy and can wake people up. So why do they not use one of the cab doors at night, which would alleviate the problem. Yes it may be a little more inconvenient, but surely just twisting one of the swivel seats a bit to get out and in is no real hardship?

to help the campers, could the coachbuilts do the same please?

Hi Jim. Just got back in from being with daughter and family for the first time since Christmas.
Wow! Cannot believe the number of responses! I only posted as my breakfast scan through Fun was punctuated by stereo pvc doors.

I thought that today's hot topic would be the long road south after Napoleon Micron grudgingly reopened France to us. 🤣

Spend a night in a Marina and listen to the racket the Raggies boats make when the wind is up occupied or not. No point getting annoyed it's part of boating! It is one of the bonuses we notice when river cruising, much quieter.(y)

I know osme may thing Im taking the piss, but they never bother me, whooosh bang.
OK middle of the night it can be a pain, but I was at Roodee last night and an Autotrail Comanche big thing next to me was making more noise open, close, open close, rear garage, slam, wheel ramps and chocs..sliiiiide slam, clunk.
Never seems to wind me up, if they are gtting ready and stuff then they need to open/ close.

NOW IF YOUR TALIKNG ABOUT yappy dogs left to bark, thats a different story  :fubar:

I have a pvc and, as has been said, pushing/pulling on the rear of the door as it is closing helps. However, I solved this a different way.

My van is 5.4m and initially I went with the common rear transverse bed/front kitchen arrangement. I wasn’t too keen on this layout because when stepping in the side door everything was a bit cramped.

During the first lockdown I had a moment of clarity and decided that the issue was using the side door as the main entrance. So I moved the bed/seating to the front and use the back door. Much better. Step in to a utility room, take off muddy boots, hang up jackets then through a galley style kitchen to the lounge. Windows are all at the front so it makes more sense to sit there and part of the bed can slide away to make an L- shaped sofa, making the side door usable if required.

The back of the van is arranged so that only one of the barn doors needs to be opened and it has so much sound deadening and insulation that it closes with a soft whumpf that any luxury car would be proud of.

Or can't beat them join them 😂

No need to. Our hab door does not need to be slammed in order to close it. We are very careful at night to close it carefully and ending with a gentle pull. Not completely silent of course, but a lot less noise than the woosh bang
ooh...where to start!...... just a thought, but maybe PVC owners prefer to use the purpose made door to get in and out of their van, rather than attempt some impromptu 'it's a knockout' kind of manoeuvre in the middle of the night? Of course, swivelling a cab seat and exiting via a cab door is going to be completely silent, isn't it? NOT!! Are you for real?
Yes, I am for real. No one expects "complete silent" on a campsite or Aire. Motorhome swivel seats can be turned around a lot more quietly than slamming the door of a PVC. But apparently you are quite willing to wake up your neighbours in the "middle of the night" because you can't be bothered.

Once I have pitched up the front seats are swivelled. There will often be a thermal cover over the screen and doors. The front of the van then get's filled with all sorts of clobber from under the rear bench seats that will be inaccessible once the bed area is made up. Thus if would become a major climbing exercise to use the front cab doors, probably resulting in far more disturbing expletives than a simple whoosh bang.

Oh and even if I could clamber over the rear bed the barn doors are usually unusable due to the tow bar mounted bike carrier.

Well, well done you, have yourself a gold star, and while you're at it, don't make wild assumptions about how I behave when using my van.

I didn't make any assumptions. You said in your post that you would rather slam your door in the middle of the night than use the quieter option of using the cab door.

Thank you for the gold star though, haven't had one of those for ages (y) :ROFLMAO:
