Slide and slam the curse of PVCs

It's quite easy really ...from outside close the door by sliding it along and pushing it in from the rear ....just a click then.
And from inside fit a pull strap on the rear so again you slide it along ....quietly and then pull in the rear.

If it makes a racket when sliding its down to poor maintenance nothing else. If the tracks are clean and greased properly its smooth and quiet. If i managed it on 40 -45 year old vws im sure folk in nearly new vans could do it ....

I have fitted handles to mine that do the same thing, I found that straps sometime, especially when the wind is blowing, can get tangle in the slide mechanism.

We have a two lists of where everything is so we can quickly scan them, the first gives the location of the locker and what is in it (useful when packing for a trip so we can ensure we have everything in it) and the other which is the items groups in type order (eg water, electrical etc) with the items in alphabetical order and the locker its in (not every single item is listed but for example 'hose attachments' are all in one tub.

Once these lists are done it saves a lot of time 'on site' and minimises the locker rummaging to a minimum.
If I did that I'd never find the list.

I don't make lists so I just go out and buy something I don't have. When I put it away I find I now have three of them.
I think I've cornered the market for 12v soldering irons.

One of my best was a quiet get together at our pitch.

We were in our motorhome in a convoy with family in another motorhome and a car. We were at Les Naiades in Port Grimaud. There were 16 of us altogether, over 2 pitches and the car group in a Static, all spread out over the site.

One late afternoon, one of the Polish neighbours (2 young males 2 females) walked straight across our pitch in-front of us to unplug his EHU as thunder could be heard in the distance. Anyway, early evening, just 6 of us sat chatting. The loud campsite discotheque could be heard in the background. At about 10:30, one of the blokes, popped his head out of the tent and shouted ......

"SHHHHH Vants go sleep". We laughed and carried on until around 11:15. Silence was requested after midnight anyway, despite the bar disco being on until 1am.

The Next morning, the polish group had moved their table from the opposite side of their pitch and put it up against our awning. Decided to get pissed at 7:30 am drinking Vodka and singing, clapping loud.

I had already visited our Belgium neighbours to apologise if we had kept them awake. One said they never heard anything over the loud campsite music.

I went over to the shower block and saw one of the blokes leaving. I thought! I will wait until he gets back. There was only me, my wife and my Daughters on our pitch.

When I got back, I walked onto their pitch and spoke to them...

"If you like, rather than us have a quiet get together tonight, there are 16 of us on they site. I can invite them all over and piss you right off. In the meantime get your F in Table and **** off over the other side where you were before. Any Questions as I know you all understand what I am saying".... "And whilst your at it, move your F in Rubbish that's been stinking for days".

None of them replied, I think it was shock and Within minutes, the table was moved and everything was quiet. They even took the rubbish when they went out.

It is very, very rare I challenge other campers, but it certainly worked and I felt better for it.
Ahhh campsites .

Every day in some way im reminded why i never use them 😁

the only way to get the door to latch correctly is to give it a good slam
That is simply untrue 🤷🏻‍♂️

Ive owned in excess of 70 vans with sliding doors .....i can assure you they can be closed quietly. Not silent but a lot quieter than a scraping gritty whoosh followed by a slam usually repeated 2 or 3 times just to make sure.

Mostly its because people dont clean out the track and rollers regularly and they themselves become used to the racket they make and stop caring.

It can be done ....i know because ive done it on nearly every sliding door van ive had since age 17 ...🤷🏻‍♂️

It also helps by using silicon spray (something like Black on Black) instead of thick grease.

The Mazda Bongo had electric easy closure SLD from 1994 onwards its about time the rest of the World caught up
My wife used to complain about the noise of the electric motor on ours. Solved that by getting a van with a woosh bang without. That kept her quiet!

& leaves the lights on.

As to retrofitting electric sliding door closers as long as you can fit it yourself there's change out of £200.
Here 2000>2014 Transit. kit.

Quite a few suppliers all under 250€
Yes they are fairly cheap and easy to fit...I looked into them for my PVC
HOWEVER you really need to fit before conversion because it is almost certain the furniture will be in the way and needing removed/modified which may not be that easy.

On the subject of spraying the runner with silicone oil (can't find the posting), which I do (ir)regularly, clean the runner wheel's surface as well, as the ingrained dirt on them rumbles as they turn (just before you slam, don't forget that bit!! Let's keep this thread going!

One thing ive never understood about campers with big sliding doors and then units that cover half of said door.

Manufacturers need to start converting vans without side doors and fitting motorhome doors like this.

Or fit a smaller barndoor .

Pointless having a big draughty door if half the door is blocked anyway

With the (optional) full flyscreen you can enjoy the outdoors, while sitting indoors. Stops drafts and winged buzzers.

Are your serious or have a memory problem

So my takeaway from this (so far) 10 page thread, is that in future, whenever I am parked next to a coach built/Hymer/A Class/whatever, I am to stay awake until it all goes quiet at night, and then repeatedly get in and out of my van ensuring that I slam the door as loud as I can.
Oh, and during the day, irrespective of whether I need to enter or exit the van whilst sitting outside, repeatedly ensure that at 15 minute intervals (or less,) I get up from my book reading or beer/wine drinking, and open and SLAM the door.

As a technician by trade, some people are very slow to realise that arguing with a technician is akin to mud wrestling with a pig - the more you do it, the more the pig enjoys it!

So no different from normal then 😁 and every other pvc owner

P.s there are clearly technicians ....and Technicians.

I found that in most trades though ...those that say something cant be done and those who do it 😉

How's about:-
Synchronized Whoosh Banging at next Fun Rally.. We could do it to the Very Load Music Emminating from all the Coach/A Classes's.
Should be Fun. 😎😎😎😎😎
EDIT... 1812 overture could be a good finale.

I cant believe it! So many people that park in a glorified car park in a thin walled vehicle, yet can't abide noise or anyone else parking near them. I think this thread is full of folk that should rent a cottage somewhere quiet.

This is getting petty, can’t someone start a thread about geriatric old people and setting off their alarms and looking around to see who’s vans making the row. Then a part two for the noisier growler owners after a drink or three

This thread is full of folk having a bit of Fun along with a couple of people taking it far too seriously.
