Schengen possible relaxation rules

😄😄😄

A bit of wishful thinking here.

It's a Schengen rule, nothing to do with the EU (Brussels). The UK wasn't ruled by the 90/1980 was it??
(And, we, resident in Spain, would also benefit if it changed, but we're not holding our breath.)
If it’s nothing to do with Brussels what is all this about according to them it’s the EU s best achievement?

But you don't have to be IN the EU to be in Schengen, i.e. Norway, Switzerland, and you can be in the EU and not in Schengen, i.e. Croatia and Ireland (and in the past the UK).

It was possibly instigated by the EU to make travelling easier but not a necessity to join, and not policed by them.

Just reported in paper that Spain wants Uk citizens to stay. In Spain as long as they want. Must be getting desperate for £££/euros.
This is the third thread on the same subject...a loosely worded comment by the Tourism minister has since gone viral...🤔🇪🇦

Campsites are quite full with non-Brits although proprietors do say that the Brits would be a very welcomed bonus.

Bar owners however seem to miss us most, as a few have told me that the brits are/were the big pub spenders.

do you not prefer the route to northern Spain and then down to Say Valencia?

That’s a question tbh, the first time we did the through France route I followed the west coast, Rouen, Bordeaux and ended up in San Sebastián, that was in early October

We’ve done a few routes and I do like the Clermont Ferrand, Millau route as it’s quick and mainly toll free once on the A75, just the bridge tbh.
But it’s early January so i'm leaning towards the west coast atm to avoid the snow if it’s around at the time. I’ll see how we get on nearer the time but I do like following the Spanish Med coast if i’m honest, I find it a lovely route with loads of places to stop at and some great scenery the further south you go 👍

A regular comment around here from Spanish and Italian Friends.

Dutch people are loving it here. A few say its due to wealth tax in the Netherlands, poor weather, early retirement (a lot of wealthy early retirees ). Why stay in Expensive , windy, cold Amsterdam when you can be in Spain.

That said, the number one tourists seems to be the Brits, because a lot of us spend money.

We do the west side on the way down in January, and the east side AP7 then A75 on the way up in March. (y)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

do you stick to the toll route Jock and how long do you usually take to get through France

up to now i’ve only done the tolls and it mounts up but it gets us there a bit quicker (I think) lol

I heard the non toll routes can be a bit of a bind with plenty of roundabouts

if you have a favoured route i’d appreciate it so I can check it out

Al 👍

No Al, I don't do tolls, and as I'm not in a hurry, I take about 5 x days to get down to Benidorm.

I use tonka's Western Route as found in Resources, and set my Truck Sat Nav for non tolls routes, and Motorways, so it keeps me on major roads.

Cheers

Greece has a Financially Independent Persons Visa (FIP). Having a passive income (Pensions/Investments etc.) of 2.4K euros per month will get a 24 month visa, renewable every 24 months as long as the income continues. Or provide evidence of 57,600 in savings (2,400 x 24). There is an uplift of 5% for spouse. There is a restriction on working as the visa is purely to attract retirees and financially independent people.

Dream on. We have all been screwed by the Brexiters!! lol 😆

Spain wants to scrap the 90 day limit for UK visitors, allowing them to stay in the country indefinitely.

Non-EU visitors are only allowed to visit Schengen area countries for 90 days in every 180 day period.

But Spain is set to ask EU authorities to relax this rule for British holidaymakers.

The restriction works against Spain’s interests, Spanish Tourism Secretary Fernando Valdés said.

“Unfortunately, [the rule] is not something Spain has established by itself or can get rid of,” he told the i newspaper.

Decision down to Brussels ... hmmm ... what chance that Spain will be allowed to have an exception. Nope, didn't think so.

Rule maker or rule taker - obviously the latter, but better relations with EU in so many different ways would be good for the economies and the people

If Brussels can see it makes financial sense, then they may well go for it.
How about a 6 month EU visa for £50 ?

There are several issues: Will the entry be age related, should this be for the snowbirds only ?
(Earn no money, pay no tax)

One BIG issue will be if the UK can have 6 month visa's then why can't Ozzies or Yanks or Albanians etc. have them as well.?

Will it permit UK twenty-somethings to get a 6 month visa and do as they did before getting jobs pulling pints on the beach or cleaning ski chalets ?

There is also the other BIG issue, if the EU lets in the UK for a 6 month visa, what is the UK going to permit EU citizens to do in return ?

The EU needs to consider the overall picture, not just the future of a few hundred thousand extra visitors to the beaches of Spain
If is down to the EU, it is doubtful Spain will get it through.
If they just do it without the cabal in Brussels agreeing then Spain may get hit with sanctions by the wonderful EU

The rules were very clear when we left. I don't get why anyone is surprised.

Many of the Dutch will openly admit they are tight. They ve love the Menu Del Dia but I reckon there's a lot of bottle smugglers, their tap water seems to change colour as the meal progresses:LOL:

Who said they were surprised?
They must be because they seem to think we're being picked on. The rules haven't been changed to what they were when we left. From a few of the replies

"If they just do it without the cabal in Brussels agreeing then Spain may get hit with sanctions by the wonderful EU

Any country anywhere can issue visas for anything if they so wish. Its only diplomacy that gets in the way. Especially where the eu is involved

They all suggest that people feel we're being picked on or dealt with unfairly when the situation is exactly what it was when we voted. I can only think they are surprised it hasn't changed or weren't aware of what it was.

iv not seen anyone say they are surprised.
Its Spain and other countries in the EU who are loosing out financially.
And it could make Spain think about leaving the Eu aswell if Brussels do hit them with sanctions.

Since September. We have not had our passports scanned in Spain. Ports or airports.

What is the situation in Other EU countries ? Anyone ?
Did you not have to give your passport details when you checked in for your flights?
