Schengen possible relaxation rules

I've gotta spend about 4 days in France on my way to Spain and I'm dreading it . I'll be stocking up on food before I leave the UK lol ...but I still need to endure the fuel costs and the detours to avoid the toll roads
Those are my sentiments exactly re France Tam. :(

All we buy is diesel en route, and the odd baguette. ;)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

I'm too soft to try and dodge the systems but could happily spend 180 days in France 😀
if you check the link I posted earlier on you won't be dodging any system, as it clearly says your 90 day allowance is unaffected.

I'd personally struggle staying a long time in France as it's simply far too dammed expensive, 12 euros for 2 pints followed by 19 euros at Le Touquet did it for me, they can stick it up their @rse, robbin gits

So you can go anywhere in Europe for 180 days and then add another 90 days Schengen on the end?

I get your winking emoji Al, but if others were considering doing that, even with 2 x drivers it's definitely a tad too far....................to be done safely. :(

I have done the 2 x driver coach touring, where there is a designated driver's sleeping compartment in the lower body of the coach, and without a doubt, it's nothing as restful as sleeping on a MH bed whilst in motion...................................which is technically illegal. :(

Cheers,

Jock. :)

That's hard-core lol ...its 1200km from calais to montpellier. I can't do that in 1 day ...too much driving
early sunday start, we cross at 8.20am and hopefully get to south of Clermont Ferrand by around 4pm.

Chill out and set off at 8am and we’ll be at Roses aire by 4pm again on the 9th all being well, so 2 days with a lot of driving involved.

Then the proper chilling out starts and we’ll meander down the med coast chasing the sun until early April

Cross early morning on 8th Jan, arrive in top of Spain later on 9th ... nearly 48 hours to do it.

That's still too much driving in one day , I sit at 60mph max ... calais to Roses must be 1400km . That's over 400miles per day .

It depends how fast you want/need to get somewhere, we've done very long journeys when we've had to with a poorly dog etc.

So have I having bought many vehicles the other end of the UK . But sod that on holiday.

Yes, as I understand it. But you have to apply for the visa. Once in France, who knows where you will be ?. I have crossed many borders in one day. Even, Germany, France and back into Germany en-route to the south. Same with The Netherlands, in Bad Arcen for the afternoon, cross to Geldern in Germany for the stelplatz for the night.

do you not prefer the route to northern Spain and then down to Say Valencia?

The fly in the ointment would be the regulations regarding dogs. Unless these are changed too there isn't much chance that we could extend our stay by more than the extra month allowed on the AHC

Just get an EU pet passport, no problems then.

Not so simple these days and complicated by the need for rabies boosters in the country of issue more often than in uk. I see from your id that you definitely have experience (we only have the two with us plus parrots!) in Spain at the moment and looking at all possibilities. Any suggestions welcome. Sorry if we are off the subject of the thread.

France at the right time of the year is a great country to visit, loads of free or low cost Aires / Camperstops, some things are expensive but it's the same in all countries even here in Spain it still applies not everything is cheap, if your self catering you can keep the costs down. 🙂
So for us, France has lots of nice intresting places to visit and quite happy to spend time there. 👍😎
Visiting the UK is not cheap, especially if you use campsites. 😁 Bob.

There are a few threads running about pet passports which I've contributed to so if you do a search using my name you should be able to find them. (y)

We like France, its been a good few years since we did it 'in anger' having headed further afield or for the southern sun, but earlier this year we enjoyed our tootling around on the way down and back so are considering doing an early summer trip there for a couple of months next year, it'll depend on selling my Mum's flat, our home etc as to whether we make it though!

Exactly Bob...the UK has turned into a no go for us....we infrequently fly back then use the train to visit family...it used to be car hire..
For this Christmas we have family here...not in our apartment, but the adjoining one...it's cheaper to bring them to us and give them a break, rather than us going there......
As for France...love the place....however for the past three years the Northern parts of Spain have become a big draw....🇪🇦👍😀

Martin likes France. I always enjoy it once there but I am always reluctant to go.

We've NEVER had any problems with the locals, only offers of help, but there's just something ...

There are other countries where I'm unsettled, maybe because I don't speak their language and they expect you to (and I don't blame them). The Scandilands and Holland are so easy. Their English is, probably, better than ours 😄😄

Edit.

Haha I was typing as Martin posted.

I was working for Philips and flying often to Netherlands so started learning Dutch.

I came out of Amsterdam station and asked the tram driver ' Waar is de bushaalte naar de flughafen?'

In clear English 'You go across the street there, turn right and walk along 50 metres'

My friends would not answer me in Dutch.

I gave up.

I had similar experiences - the answer is to go to Belgium! We had just driven just a few miles out of francophone Brussels once and went into a bar - they certainly wouldn’t speak French, nor really English, but it was a great opportunity to speak Flemish.

I have had the same reaction from the Dutch ! How very odd, loads of them here in javea. Must ask them why?
