Schengen possible relaxation rules

It would be fantastic if somehow the 90 day rule was changed but I won't hold my breath . Maybe in years ( decades ) to come when the politicians stop acting like kids and that we are at war with Europe etc communication then might be better. But I can't see how Spain can have special treatment from the whole group.

But stranger things can happen , I for one would love to be able to go 6 months at a time without having to juggle days in and out

You can Tam if you apply for the French long stay tourist visa, its 80 quid or so but if it gives you the option to stay for 180 days and NOT interfere with your 90 days Shengen allowance, then surely thats worth it or it is for me

As i said earlier though i'd much rather pay nothing ;)

What’s this about a £80 French tourist visa for longer?
Please keep up lol

Yes I'm going to look in to.that for next time

Thanks! How easy is it to navigate through the requirements to actually receive one? Anyone been successful?
yes it quite easy according to my mate Steve who applied in Manchester back in April-ish, took everything he needed to including passports and got them back in 4 days

He's over there now having done France, Northern Spain, into Portugal, now back into Spain and slowly working his way back up over a 9 months period

You can apply if within 3 months of departure btw

Good news possibly for English people !!!!!! Maybe next year schengen will not be for us so we can stay longer for 6 months again and campsites can have many more english during October November December too 🙂 fingers crossed 🤞 🤞 Hope Portugal does this too View attachment 686291View attachment 686292
That’s no good to me, hopefully they’ll include other parts of the U.K.

If it's 90 days for us it should be 90 days for EU members.

People have been getting into trouble with Schengen for years, Backpackers mainly, you can understand it really people coming from Australia or US and can only stay 90 days across 27 countries is a bit limiting. I think it would make sense for them to adopt the US model ( they re going to be part way there with Etias) where you can get a 3 month visa online with only rudimentary checks but then apply for a proper visa ( 6 months) if you want longer, this costs more and they look a bit harder. makes perfect sense so unlikely to be adopted politically

For goodness sake the Spanish can't even get their heads around swapping UK driving licences for residents. Not holding out much hope for visas.

Heard it all before the EU only interested in punishing the UK .

1. It's nothing to do with the EU, its a Schengen regulation.

2. It was in place for third countries well before the UK left the EU (they were never in Schengen but got the advantages) and put themselves into that category!

As I understand it. EU visitors to UK do not need a visa and can stay for up to 6 months. None of this 90/180 malarkey. The 6 months I believe runs from each date of entry into the UK. I guess the UK is not spending time and energy trying to make things difficult so as to punish the EU. The easy thing for the EU to do would be to reciprocate, but then, as we have been told so often " leaving the EU must have consequences ".
The 6 months was what the Uk put in place as it suited them by allowing the fruit pickers to stay for that period without having to register .It also suited the Uk as it meant they did not require registration for residency.this is why they have no idea how many were in the country then or now.
I was lead to believe that the UK politicians never asked or pushed for the 6 months.
Feeling that it wasn’t a vote winner not worth fighting for!
As above . why would they ask when they couldn't even sort out far more important things?
The requirement would have had to be negotiated but the Uk could have reduced the EU allowance to 90 days without a problem or anything to do with the withdrawal.
If it's 90 days for us it should be 90 days for EU members.
Do you actually know what the rules were before the vote? See above .It suited the Uk so as not to require residency registration & came back to bite them ,as well as having not a clue about how many eu citizens were actually even in the country.

They have never had a problem swopping licences under eu rules before brexit. If someone needed a licence then why did they wait? if they weren't registered for residency they should never have been allowed to apply after the vote. I think the spanish bent over backwards allowing residency registrations right up until the last day of the transition period.
personally I would have stopped them on the day of the out vote & failing that ,the moment they invoked article 50.

Since September. We have not had our passports scanned in Spain. Ports or airports.

What is the situation in Other EU countries ? Anyone ?
France will defiantly stamp your passport. They did my wife's but not mine as it's Irish.
