Morelo or Concorde

Compared to the other two PhoeniX are much lower in sales volume and were/are selling all they can make in their home markets so I suppose you ask why would they want a UK dealer? and from a dealers perspective would it be an interesting business model for just a few vans a year? most likely not is my feeling.

The Concorde Morelo relationship is a little complicated and Morelo have always had big ideas and they are still only 12 years down the line as a company, you just have to go out to Germany for the open weekend in May to see how different the three companies are, they are all within 5 miles of each other so the comparisons is very easy.

Who knows what really goes on in dealer sales meetings and boardroom, well I certainly don't but it appeared that Southdowns misread the market on the run up to Brexit and didn't book any (or many) production slots for the following year in contrast the Morelo dealer not only had the slots but sold the vans against them gaining a firm foothold in the luxury end of the market which they have since progressed while Southdowns seemed to lose interest, possibly there was not enough sales volume for them with Morelo taking sales from them.

After another tiring day we are are on a stellplatz in Jűlich to get our windscreen replaced tomorrow. I have promised a decision for Friday but is either the new design 7.5m a class from concorde with all our bits added comes in at €279000 and the phoenix alkoven design 7.65m at €295000 both include the certificate of conformity and plates to the ferry or tunnel back to the UK. We specced both equally with maximum lithium battery's, solar, hab air con, 90litres underslung lpg gas tank, full air suspension and 170 litre diesel tank. Basically we have gone fully loaded. The only item I would be adding after in the UK is ep levellers as they want €10000 and I know that I can get mick at Doncaster to do them for 5.5k to 6k.
We are still no further forward in our decision although the difference in iveco models is the 50 for the concorde and the 70 for the phoenix which equates to 1100k payload for the concorde and a whopping 2000k payload for the phoenix.
Phoenix for me but only if its an A class, dont want an Alkoven. having said that I dont have the patience to wait so would scan mobile.de for used.

I like the Alkoven vans, I’ve been told by a few Germans they are very well winterised when you slide the door across to block off the cab plus no expensive windscreen to source.

We are both sat here been devil advocate for both vans, it's going to be a hard decision.
One of the cupboard catchs has already been broken in the concorde of there show van And I keep looking at the phoenix and know its going to be in the same condition in 10 years yet I feel the concorde may struggle.

Does phoenix not do what you want without it being an alkoven?

Even though we have a Concorde A class which is wonderful build quality it would be the Phoenix for me.

Well as our windscreen wasn't fitted this morning we hot footed it back to dusseldorf and we have made our decision of which motorhome to go for.
The reasons we didn't go for the concorde are
1. Difficult to get a scooter in as there's only 1 proper garage door and a little one on the other side.
2. No trade in.
3. Personally having to register in the uk.

Reasons we didn't go for the phoenix
1. Having to pay the vat in Switzerland and then paying in the uk the vat and awaiting it to be paid back from the dealers.
2. 3300 swiss franc extra cost on top
3. Just couldn't accept the ugly duckling look
4. No trade in.
 
We are sticking with morelo.
Upgrading to a loft even though it's 8.3m.
Final deals will be done tomorrow for delivery next September.

btw Although the financials sound ridiculously complicated would Phoenix not make what you want in an A class?

Nice one guys (y) back in the fold, well you only left in your mind, have fun speccing the Loft, Telma retarder is brilliant if you do hills, actually it's just brilliant, ask about the MirrorEye camera system as they have snuck it into the price/technical brochure right at the end.

We looked but in the end it's the convenience of a UK dealer that brought us back to morelo. Plus I do like the brand and I find the dealers to be honest and conveniently situated.

Did they have a Loft there with the digital mirrors, is it a single screen or two like I posted?

Probably one of the best options on a big van, so easy in Switzerland and Austria going down through hills and even on normal flat roads.
Would not be without one.

They can always add it to the spec sheet when they get home Mark ;) it's only money after all, I think I would have been tempted by the MirrorEye camera system as well though as our mirrors do have an annoying habit of finding trees and hedges on tight sites.

Not sure about the cameras Martin as I like the mirrors, apart from the squeaking drivers one that drives me mad🤬🤬

I'm not sure if we have this on our current model but if we don't then I don't need it. I will drag my original spec out to check. But I have gone for full air and the wider axles as I feel stability on this type of a class is important

Had an argument with the site warden in Cambridge, told him I was 8.5 and showed him the 85L sticker in the footwell insisting
that was the size😁😁
He kept saying it looks longer, luckily he never got the tape out😁😁
