Morelo or Concorde

I really would be careful about making too many compromises to get below a arbitrary figure. There will be exceptions but I dont think many places will get the tape out and quibble about 30cms. Has it happened much so far?
To be honest I had in my head below 6.3m, however after talking to Philip we realised that was a step too far. If greece and Turkey can't be achieved in sub 8 metres we will redefine our future travel plans.
I think the Carthago is a non starter as it's lovely but just not as robust as I would like for use 9 months of the year.
The visuals for the phoenix are not it's best on the outside but the practicality and beauty on the inside is epic.
The concorde is a prototype and the one at the show is it's first which will be travelling around Europe for them to show it off, its internals are spacious and very well appointed giving the inside a clever layout to utilise all areas to the utmost.
It's a 7.5m A class but it does have a couple of flaws, the bed is a transverse half island and because of this it only has 1 large garage door with a small access on the other side, this would mean getting the scooter in will be a chore each time, this is the only negative however I need to check the payloads and tanks to do a comparison, then it's down to delivery dates and price.

We only have today to get all the info as we have to be at jűlich at 10am in the morning to get our windscreen replaced.

Thought Concorde might be busier than that  might be quoting 9 months by the end of the show ;)
I ordered my Carthago in October 2022, it was supposed to be delivered in July this year, then postponed to October and now they say February 2023… so I wouldn’t count on the 9 months. May I ask why you want to go under 8m? While waiting for my 8.5m liner-for-two to e delivered, every second day I wonder if it’s going to be too long and make visiting places become too difficult… we plan to live in it roughly 10 months a year… and avoid campsites as much as possible.

Hi

Lots of manufacturers are having problems sourcing parts at the moment right from base chassis to bodywork like doors and frames so you are right quoted timeframes could be a bit elastic, It's not me that wants to be under 8 metres but I think they have explained that in an earlier post but it's all about where you want to camp and I think you will be fine at 8.5m and avoiding campsites as much as possible, we were going to try to go under 8.5m but at the end of the day the space won and we are 8.7m and don't regret it.

Thanks for the answer, I did indeed click reply on the wrong post but got the right answer :). I also noticed later that the OP had answered. Thanks to all and good luck to OP with the new purchase!

Our previous motorhome was a 9m tag axle euramobil and we travelled extensively including Cornwall and the lakes, however we want to access places that a 8m plus would be a negative but dont stress as a Carthago 2plus2 is a great design and was the vehicle we where originally going to buy before we got the morelo and it was only delivery dates that put is off.

Good morning:)
We have a Morelo Loft 78F (7.98m) and love the big compact size. We wanted to also travel uk, but found it too big for the places we wanted to visit. So last week we bought a 2year old Carthago C-compact I 138DB (6.4m). We love it and now gives us the freedom to both enjoy the Morelo in Europe and the Carthago in the far parts of the UK:)

That's what I call a solution (y)

Yes we may look at this going forward but we still want to change our current one to a different internal layout.

Good morning again:)
We bought a Globecar RoadScout (5.4m) fully specked 2 years ago and tried out the idea exploring the UK. It was a resounding success, however we prefer a little luxury, hence the reason for a change:) Presently have the Globecar for sale on auto trader at £63,950:)

Now that’s what I call short 🤣👍
It’s not the length it’s what you do with it, twin rear wheel Iveco 3 litre, all the toys.

We’ve had a an 8.33 metre one, didn’t suit us at all.

We did a lot of research before choosing our 9m Phoenix eight years ago. We bought it through a Belgian dealer but have had no warranty issues. Phoenix was the only company prepared to modify the layout to our wishes, based on 10 years previous experience of motorhoming. We have all round air suspension and E&P hydraulic jacks on an Iveco Daily chassis which has a smaller turning circle than a previous 8m Fiat Ducato. Phoenix make improvements to the original chassis spec as standard which can go unnoticed by potential buyers. We have toured Devon and Cornwall without a problem, and a phone call to the site operators in the UK almost always results in an available pitch. The only size issue we have had is in France at some inner city aires where length has been the issue. Having visited the factories of Morello, Concorde, and Phoenix and test driven them all I would wait for a Phoenix!

Great vans for sure, we have been round the Phoenix factory, actually we have been around them all ;) I like the way that Phoenix are built and their furniture construction is the best and that came from a Concorde dealer, I drove all three Phoenix, Morelo and Concorde and now of course we have the M Palace, they are all great vans in their own way and I think it's really just little personal preferences that set them apart.

EDIT forgot to say we were sat with a dealer and very close to ordering a Phoenix, yes the ability to sit down and make changes was on the face of it a great option but then it came up that the changes we had made meant that the van could not be supplied with a CofC so the import process could have been compromised and the dealer suggested that they register it first and we then buy and import essentially a second hand van, with this and Brexit looming we bottled out and bought the Morelo through a UK dealer, the right decision for us I think with hindsight.

Does anybody have any tales of woe regarding either concorde or morelo.

After been a morelo owner for nearly 2 years we are happy with the brand.
We have a Home 8.2 which is a fantastic piece of kit.
However we need to get under 8m, unfortunately this rules out morelo yet concorde have a new model which is only 7.5 metres.
Get a Hymer 👍

I have found this a very interesting and informative thread, because I have been looking at the same group of manufacturers.

Some very useful inputs from several members.

I am surprised that Carthago has been mentioned so much but hardly a mention of N&B except for the new Flair. I had ruled out N&B because the island bed Arto in the length we would want is in the catalogue but no longer being built.

Anyway as I have said the Polish 18% 'Excise Tax' and the wait for delivery at my age of 80 puts me off.

One thing that never ceases to make me wonder, is the number of one owner relatively newish Carthagos for sale. Has anyone else noticed this? It makes me think ‘why are they selling’.

We had a Carthago 6 years ago and realised after we bought it how well made they were. On retirement we sold it and bought a Morelo and again realised how well they are made after purchase. Never found a suitable phoenix or Concorde, however owners always rave:) However I do agree that since Hymer sold out to thor, their vans appear to be less desirable.

I wonder how much influence Thor Industries have had on the new N&B Flair? Hymer Group seemed to leave the N&B factory at Polch very much to themselves, but who knows what will happen now.

Right, that’s it, I’m putting the lottery on tonight.
Fingers crossed, I will be booking my Germany trip in the morning folks! Good timings too as I will finish my night shift at 8am. - it’s already fitting into place.

Imo N+B have already lost the plot with the Smoves. I'm trying to keep an open mind until I've been in a Flair. Its a shame they deserted the Liner Market.

After another tiring day we are are on a stellplatz in Jűlich to get our windscreen replaced tomorrow. I have promised a decision for Friday but is either the new design 7.5m a class from concorde with all our bits added comes in at €279000 and the phoenix alkoven design 7.65m at €295000 both include the certificate of conformity and plates to the ferry or tunnel back to the UK. We specced both equally with maximum lithium battery's, solar, hab air con, 90litres underslung lpg gas tank, full air suspension and 170 litre diesel tank. Basically we have gone fully loaded. The only item I would be adding after in the UK is ep levellers as they want €10000 and I know that I can get mick at Doncaster to do them for 5.5k to 6k.
We are still no further forward in our decision although the difference in iveco models is the 50 for the concorde and the 70 for the phoenix which equates to 1100k payload for the concorde and a whopping 2000k payload for the phoenix.

Your money your very difficult decision, you don’t appear to mention RHD/LHD but come the day of resale to EU market for a Phoenix will always be strong but very limited for such a specialist Marque in the U.K. my money would be on the Phoenix no hesitation no question.
Enjoy whatever your decision.
