Morelo or Concorde

Shows how we are all different as I have always liked the PhoeniX graphics.
Mmmm... to me this is a phoenix - the one on the vehicle graphics looks like a fat pidgeon!

Bloody shattered. Still not sorted. Staying another day.

It's down to 3.
Concorde, Phoenix or Carthago.
Concorde is 6 months build time.
Carthago 12 months
Phoenix 18 months

Thought Concorde might be busier than that  might be quoting 9 months by the end of the show ;)

Concorde it is then :giggle:
Concorde and PhoeniX both have no dealer in the UK so DIY import paperwork and registration also no dealer for service and warranty issues, OK no big deal really but all goes in the mix.

Both have given me dealers which have experience of importing vehicles after brexit. So I'm happy with that. Phoenix give me the impression of not having snags and concorde have a man that does in the UK. I'm always in Europe so it's not an issue for me.
The easy and cheaper option is Carthago but it's not as robust in its fixtures and fittings.

On our recent trip down to Croatia and back see plenty of new Morelos but only about 2 or 3 Concorde!,
it may be that they are loosing sales to others hence why they don’t seem that busy. Wonder what Morelo are quoting on a new build?

Phoenix is 7.65m
Concorde is 7.5m
Morelo unfortunately do not have a layout I'm happy with unless we go for a loft at 8.3m which defeats the change.

They didn't seem to have sub 8m
6,8, 10, 12, 18? Some people can’t get their VW camper van into a site where others have no issues with a 12 metre van,
I understand that there are some critical sites where it may make a difference but 90% of the time it is no issue really.
Also it’s not just overall length, turning circle, overhang, wheelbase , it all counts
Get something like a 11 metre 12 or 16 T chassis with rear wheel steer, it’s amazing with they can do.
Or a fifth wheeler lol😆😎😇👍

I'm a class 1 hgv (showing my age as its c+++ something now) its the small roads in certain country's which is our reason to change plus sites in the UK as there's a lot more choice for 8m or less

Martin

Do you know if they will sell direct from the factory in that case, or do they still demand one uses a dealer?

N&B had a period when there was no dealer in Poland but the head of sales said I could buy direct. Now they have a new dealer and Jurgen Barth has retired, so I guess direct is off the cards.

Not that I can see myself buying new while we are still in Poland, because the 18% ''Excise'(not Import) Tax would stick in my throat, and can only be avoided if one has owned the vehicle for 6 months and 6'000kms outside Poland prior to import.

[Edit - how long did you wait for your Palace?]

Don't know about factory sales at Concorde but if you buy a MORELO from the factory at the end of the deal they will ask which dealer is going to support the sale, How long? about 9 months for our Palace but 6 weeks of that was Covid lockdown related.

OK Paul (y) that might be on the other Dusseldorf thread but I think I have found it, you say that Andy Bottle "the magic motorhome man" does factory warranty work, so are you saying that it doesn't matter where you buy your Concorde he is authorised by the factory to honour their warranty obligations as if he was your dealer?

Large Carthagos sell from new to a lot of first time buyers because of the bling but appear to struggle in the second hand market.
Have you contacted Niesmann Camping at Polch? They carry stock and obviously have build times on the production schedule at Concorde because of the volume they move.

Yes, although I presume that would be difficult should many more vans get sold and want to use his services.

As they are big brands why do you think they don’t have dealers etc in uk ,not enough volume moved ?

Compared to the other two PhoeniX are much lower in sales volume and were/are selling all they can make in their home markets so I suppose you ask why would they want a UK dealer? and from a dealers perspective would it be an interesting business model for just a few vans a year? most likely not is my feeling.

The Concorde Morelo relationship is a little complicated and Morelo have always had big ideas and they are still only 12 years down the line as a company, you just have to go out to Germany for the open weekend in May to see how different the three companies are, they are all within 5 miles of each other so the comparisons is very easy.

Who knows what really goes on in dealer sales meetings and boardroom, well I certainly don't but it appeared that Southdowns misread the market on the run up to Brexit and didn't book any (or many) production slots for the following year in contrast the Morelo dealer not only had the slots but sold the vans against them gaining a firm foothold in the luxury end of the market which they have since progressed while Southdowns seemed to lose interest, possibly there was not enough sales volume for them with Morelo taking sales from them.

Niessman Caravaning are well worth talking to Mr porky Longstanding Concorde dealers, lots of knowledge and straight talking

Im
It probably was a bit of that with the added brexit problems
Travelworld and Premium dont seem to be struggling. Theres a lot of foreign mh's being sold in UK, the biggest issue seems to be supply.

Southdowns are a bit marmite, both us and quite a few others had disappointing encounters, but we have a freind that travels a long distance to get them to do minor work.

I really would be careful about making too many compromises to get below a arbitrary figure. There will be exceptions but I dont think many places will get the tape out and quibble about 30cms. Has it happened much so far?
