MOBY GOES TO TURKEY. A tam and pups adventure.

If you think the old age aches and pains are bad now, wait till you get to 70+:LOL:
That's why I do what I do now ...as I've always thought by the time I retire I'm gonna be knackered. I've got arthritis as it is , I'm overweight , not the fittest, history of heart disease on my dad's side and various cancers on my mums side of the family . So by the time I reach 70 I'll be lucky if I'm still going lol.

Well done for fixing the problem. So the alternator is OK - phew!

So you are in Kranidi. My old boat is ashore there in a boatyard. There are two boatyards on the edge of Kilada village.

It is now owned by my good friend Alwin and it would be nice if you have time to take a photo.

There are two boatyards next to each other. The boat 'RUAWATA' is in the LH yard with the blue boat lift, and is on the left inside the yard at the back. I have spoken to Alwin just now, so if anyone asks why you are there just tell them you have the permission of the owner, Alwin Davison, to take some photos.

The boat has been to the bay before when I sailed her there many eons ago.

It would be nice if you can find time to get the photos.

Thanks in advance.

Geoff

[EDIT I forgot to say you are lucky that the belt problem happened in Kranidi as it is the engineering and spares centre for quite a large area around. If you want an auto-electricaian to attend to that dodgy cable it might be best to find one there - there is at least one which I used coming up from the Porto Helli side but 30+years ago and I cannot remember exactly. The boatyard may be able to point you in the right direction or they probably have a cable and crimping tool to fit. Good luck]

OK

So this morning after breakfast and a doggy walk I put the camper up on a very high kerb so I could have a go at changing the belt. As it happens I discovered it was actually easier to fit the belt from above if I removed a few hoses etc ... that gave me some more access. I got the belt I had with me over the fan blades etc and on the pulleys but even with the adjuster wound in as far as it would go the belt was way too slack ,so as I suspected it wasn't really a spare belt but a wrong belt that bodjit bill had obviously bought for the van.

You can see here the adjuster had no more adjustment left

So I had to just put the bits back on the engine and limp the van in to town in search of a parts shop . Driving to that beach the other day was probably not my wisest move as I'd drove down a very long very windy steep road so I had to go back up it to get back to town ... and of course the belt drives the cooling fan on this so the engine was very very hot by the time I got to a parts shop and my expansion tank had blown a bit water out.

But anyway I took the old belt in for measurement and part number sake and they had a match... so I bought 2 belts for €14 which was less than I paid for 1 belt in the UK £15.99 View attachment 852425

So I then set about fitting it outside the parts shop. Got it on and adjusted, topped up the expansion tank and fired it up , alternator back to charging no probs so I'm guessing taking the leads off the back and cleaning them up also helped. Not a squeak from it so far but I might have to adjust it a bit in a week or so ...but easy now I know how to get to it .... think it was sorted within 30 minutes of getting to the parts shop. So I've got a proper spare now too just in case. I'm still going to get that lead replaced when I can but it's quite heavy cable and I don't have a crimp tool to deal with that so I'll need to get an auto spark or something .

But iys all working fine for now so that's good.

I then headed off to lidl for shopping, I think the Greeks were bored today as a lot of phantom shoppers in lidl just creating Jams but not actually buying anything ...I was in there nearly an hour between the crowds and the checkout queue...but stocked up for another week or so now.

Spotted my ideal vario in the carpark ... this would suit me well but probably way more than I'd be willing to pay for it. View attachment 852429View attachment 852430

Germans of course. I did try asking the guy about it but he wasn't engaging so I gave up.

Then i drove a bit south to get out the town and stopped here for lunch and to walk dogs View attachment 852431

Very windy and drizzling with rain , there's been a change in the weather since I got to nafplion but I kind of expected that.

So I then drove towards kranidi and I'm parked up at the beach parking by the old abandoned hotel where the Belgians etc spent new year. Again I've been here before a few times. There's a few things to see nearby here, the didyma sink holes and franchiti cave. So I'll probably stay here tomorrow night aswell .

Probably be my last week in the peloponnese before I cross the corinth canal and start to head north east... probably going to have a couple of weeks of shitty weather but I need to start making my way round to Turkey as ideally I want to enter Turkey start of February
Looks like it says Bocklet, so that's a pretty high end van.

I’ll be celebrating too if I reach 70, I went out today to do something and within 10 mins I was too cold and laying on the ground like I was doing the dance of the dead fly…😆😂

In the eighties If we went to a pub we hadn’t been to before we’d play spoof and whoever lost had to do the dance of the dying fly in the middle of the pub…🤣😂🤣😂

I hate working in the cold now and I'm one of Fun's youngsters I'm only 73.

I’m the same Lenny, I really don’t like the cold anyone

2 back operations, 3 total hip replacements and full of arthritis and i’ve all on to get back up once i’m in my knees. Laying under a motorhome they’d have to get some block n tackle to get me upright again 😱😂

and i’m a young 70 😉👍

I was at a Christmas "party" recently where most of us are past 70 years young, we were all getting ready to leave after playing some good old fashioned party games.
Someone then said, "first one up wins a prize"
Apologies Tam for drifting off topic. (y)

Just catching up. This should hopefully make you chuckle. Charlie the 12 year old Labradoodle is very much like yours. Having developed the worst bits from both breeds. He likes people and has a dodgy stomach. Poor Charlie was also just recovering from having a tumor removed from his neck two weeks previously.

Picture the scene, a posh row of exclusive shops somewhere in France. Bearing in mind he'd been fed an hour earlier and was now well into the long but stunning walk into town. He passed many of his favourite types of pooping places. But no he chose to develop what could only be described as 'Fire hydrant' diarrhoea right outside the Louis Vuitton shop. Honestly the first major blowout could be heard across the street.

That was the first shot from his six shooter behind.

But there's more!

On the same trip we were in a pretty little town in Germany. Having a decent meal in a nice restaurant. Thankfully it wasn't as full as Charlie's bowels. Just after coffee, because we had to be thankful for something. He preceded to become the fire hydrant once more. This time with more and I mean a lot more content.

It took me two jugs of water and a whole container of thankfully sturdy paper napkins to remove said pebble dashing from between four tables. Again thankfully, Clare had a carrier bag in her bag which quickly became full.

Praise the Lord that I managed to do quite a good job of cleaning it up. AND I did not get any of it on my hands or up my fingernails:)

Result.

Dogs..... who'd have 'em. We would!

Also that must be a very well built van to take the loading on the back wall!

Great news that the belt fixed and lovely photos but how does the german van owner get his electric bikes that high up in the air? Is he 8 foot tall

Don't suppose you or your neighbour captured it on an external video?

I hate cold, really, really hate it. Whilst I can wrap up as warm as possible it really saps my strength ... I've got jobs to do in the MH now we've got him back but I know full well that trying to use a drill and hold screws is nigh on impossible at the moment ... that's my excuse anyway! :giggle:

Are you too tight to put the heating on?
