MOBY GOES TO TURKEY. A tam and pups adventure.

You’ve had most of it replaced Tam so it can’t be a big problem,
It would seem the place to start is the cables as per the last fix Tam.
Oh bugger, with any luck a lose connection after all those rough roads.
Well I've removed and cleaned the most obvious and easiest to reach earth cable but not sure it's done anything. Of course the ablemail is kicking in again too which doesn't help.

This van is trying to get me to sell it I'm sure of it.

Now then, let’s be realistic. Let’s face the facts……… You’re going to sell the b****y thing anyway. You always dooooo!!!!! ;) ;):ROFLMAO::rofl:

OK you have checked the earths, what about the positive connections I would work back from the alternator.
Have you checked directly on the alternator with a meter to see if there is any output?
I haven't no ..

It's quite hard to access , I did have it jacked up for a bit while I messed around but I'm in nafplion now It's incredibly busy and I think I was annoying the people parked around me by turning it off and on revving it etc . It's also really bloody warm so I turned it off packed the tools away for now and went for a walk.

I'll have to try jacking it up higher so I can get under it easier . I can't actually see an earth lead to the alternator , there's one main lead and the wee spade connector that's it . The main lead doesn't look the best if I'm honest ...its a bit green and threadbare. I loosened the nut gave it a bit if a clean up and retightened it.

Removed the main earth cable from engine and gave that a clean too.

And that was about it for now.

I'll have another look at it tomorrow. I imagine it will be a cable or a connection loose somewhere It's just not easy to access the rest of them.

Not for a while. . But its feckin pushing me it really is.

Everytime I get something sorted and I just start to think it's a good van worth investing a bit on it to make it better it starts playing up again.

That is because there isn't one, the earth is via the body of the alternator to the engine.
Yeah I figured that although there is a threaded bolt on the alternator that could take an earth cable.

When I jack it up again I'll try running a jump lead from the connections see if any different.

The cables don't look great and to be honest I think this van would benefit from new leads from battery to alternator and starter . It's just access that's a nightmare. Easier on a ramp than lying on my back

Go to a boatyard and see if they can partially lift you with their crane. They may even have a boat electrician with knowledge of alternators and 12v systems.

I really do think I'm the only Scottish if not the only British person in Greece in a campervan this year. Apart from that one guy I met in Areopoli from Cumbria I haven't seen a single UK registered camper. I'm in nafplion now and there's possibly 20 -25 campers, motorhomes between the 3 parking places around the town and every single one is German 😭😭 and I swear there has not been one friendly German on this trip since the couple I met on the ferry , they go out there way to avoid eye contact and if you say hello 9 times out of ten it goes completely unacknowledged... I don't know what's wrong with the buggers. Apart from the 3 idiots in kyparissi who wanted me to move to accommodate them I've had less than 3 words from any Germans on this trip. I've seen a handful of French, and a few Belgian vans but I mean 3 or 4 but less than 10 I think . I've only seen maybe 3 or 4 Dutch too. And a couple of Greek owned ones.

It's really feckin weird.

And the worst part is most of the Greek locals assume I'm also German....quite a few I've spoke to have started talking to me in German....others I've overheard making comments while looking at me and I've heard them saying deutsche etc

I'm gonna have to stock up on Scottish t shirts or a hat or something because when I'm away from the van every bugger thinks I'm another kraut.

I cannae be having that....we Scots are welcomed worldwide lol .

Be different if I was walking round with someone else then folk would overhear my fabulous Scottish accent but I can't walk around talking to myself ill get locked up.

It's a tragedy an outrage

Being blond & blue eyes I've often been taken for German, a big insult but at least I've not been mistaken for Scot.

Might be time tae get a kilt and there wid be nae doubt.

I was going to mention the kilt too… as most know I’m half German and I think they are rude arrogant and selfish, and that’s just my relatives…😆

I do say though that I got rid of the German half in me as I can’t do the goose step anymore….😆😂😎

Germans are nearly as bad as the French Tam

Ignore them is my advice.

They get friendlier then:rolleyes:

Treat em mean, keep em keen and all that.

I had this big fat German on a pitch next to me in Spain once.

The electricity kept tripping and he kept insisting it was my van causing it.

I was patient but my wife had to intervene in the end because I wanted to rip his head off:mad:

Don't understand why all you's lot have such bad time with German people! We've met nothing but friendly people and are always amazed how they are happy to switch to speaking outstanding English for our benefit. We even keep in contact via WhatsApp with several German friends we made during the pandemic. Is it a case of reap what you sow perhaps 😉

Is it a case of reap what you sow perhaps 😉

Well I can't see how that's possible as I always say hello , good morning etc . I do it with every Greek person I pass too.

So it can't be what I sow as none of them will ever say hello first and most don't bloody answer .

The Greeks however nearly always reply an enthusiastic kalimera ,yasas response.

But that could be the potential problem maybe most of them dont/can't speak english 🤷‍♂️

I'd love to know the reason behind it I really would ,as I'd say I was pretty outgoing and friendly to every van camper folk I see. I always initiate a conversation but if I get ignored or they don't attempt to keep it going I just don't bother afterwards.

The green on the alt cable ends is not a good sign , I have found a few times in the past that the build up of corrosion in the terminal end has broken the electrical contact between the cable core and the terminal . Might be a good place to start .

But by an absolute miracle I was just out with the dogs and a van drove in and its a brit ..... I nearly gave them a fanfare welcome..

So I popped over to say hello ... matt and his girlfriend from Plymouth...

Had a bit of a natter and yeah I'm the first brit they've seen in 3 weeks too , and funnily enough they've had the Same experience with the Germans.... I can only assume all the brits are in Spain.... lack of imagination and adventure I think lol. It's weird though as to escape the 90days from Spain you've either to endure Morocco or go home . Whereas there's loads of non shengen countries around here.

They're heading to Turkey later too but I think they're out of shengen time before me . I'll be another week in peloponnese I think then I'll be heading over the canal and making my way east .
