MOBY GOES TO TURKEY. A tam and pups adventure.

Did the Germans go somewhere else Tam. 👍
No they stayed there ...opened and closed sliding doors till around 2am probably pissin and crappin in the bushes. They were up doing yoga on the beach at 8am ... I'll bet their vegans lol.

There's another small van here from cz too that must have also arrived after it got dark as I hadn't noticed them , but apparently the Germans were over asking them to move too. 🙄 and got much the same answer I gave. There was another knock on my door this morning while I was eating breakfast but I decided ignoring it was the best option as I don't really want arrested.

2 of them drove off about 15 minutes ago but one van still there.

A few morning photos ... sunny again today . It got cloudy yesterday afternoon.

In my youth I had a modified MG Montego Turbo, but as a youth, just concentrated on making it go faster, which to be fair, was pretty easy!! I cooked my brakes pretty quickly embarrassing a Sierra Cosworth, who probably headed straight to a garage to see what was wrong with it having a fuddy duddy Montego on his rear end that he couldn't shift! I came very close to hitting the back of it, heavy braking for roundabouts 3 or 4 times and the brakes were cooked.

As already mentioned Mountain Bikes are also prone to it in the mountains, this is the write up for the section I cooked mine, I probably did 35-40 of the 58 switch backs
From here follows an awesome, uninterrupted 1,300m descent split into three distinct sections; the first is fast, high alpine with big views, the second and hardest section forms the start of our descent into the trees with boulder-strewn switchbacks, the final section in the woods is the best by far with corner after corner taking us down steeply through the trees – 58 switchbacks at the last count! Taken as a whole the descent will test some riders to their limits but the first and last sections should be almost 100% rideable for every one. You will have to go a long way to find a better descent than this!

I’ve had brakes fade badly twice. Once on my old Yamaha SR500 with someone on the back (YYP 363T, where are you now?), and once on the MTB on a very long steep technical descent in Italy. Very scary when it happens!
Could you not get your fluid changed in Greece rather than waiting till you get to Turkey Tam?

Paul
I would, it failed so it will fail again👍

I think I just overheated them, I'll be trying to use the gears more but yeah I plan to have the fluid changed I'd just prefer to do it in Turkey if I can.

Go down in gears and do what HGV ‘s used to do in the old days before retarders came about , go down the hill at same speed as up the hill, using the same gears, much safer as your handbrake will not safe you when steep enough 👍

but I can't think of anything else that could have caused them to go then return
Master cylinder seals can also cause the problem.I've had it on two vehicles. Straight to the floor, foot off pedal & back on again & brakes are there. Then some while/days or more, later it will happen again. If you take foot off & straight back on again & still nothing , then you have boiled the fluid.

Last time we were in Greece in a little cove we decided to skinny dip in the crystal clear water but as we were floating we realised there were hundreds of what l can only describe as mini jellyfish, about the size half a thumb with no tendrils and totally clear to being almost invisible until you realised they were there, needless to say we nearly walked on water getting out of there.

can i just have a gentle moan please after seeing that video of the wiggly. windy road, please get the brake fluid changed as soon as possible, like today if you can..please..
stay safe..

I agree. Tam said the MH had been sitting around for 10 years, so may not have had brake fluid changed. It does deteriorate. I have mine changed every 2-3 years.

As you are our resident Vario aficionado Tam, and a man of a decent height........

I've got vague thoughts about a future self-build, Vario seems a good base, but most seem to be the same roof height as this one:-

You mentioned that you couldn't stand up straight in the Dutch couple's yellow one, was that the same roof? I'm not quite as tall as you, I'm about 6'2", but being able to stand properly upright in any van is a non-negotiable for me! If they are all too low that will knock the idea of a Vario on the head for me, pun intended!

Yes it didn't matter how many times I lifted my foot and reapplied there was no brake . Then when I'd sat parked for a while it was back to normal.

Did that today on the drive to leonidio and came down much steeper roads than yesterday, came down in 3rd gear just letting it freewheel on the straights then releasing the clutch and pulsing brakes for the bends ...brakes were fine all the way although I do have a little squeak from the rears when driving that goes away when pressed. But brakes worked fine. I will be getting the fluid changed and I'll probably change the rear pads too . But I would rather wait till Turkey.

Not seen any of those thankfully

Yeah I couldn't but they had put 50mm insulation between the base floorboard and the floor they'd put on top which had lost them 60mm. But he was a short arse. Even in this motorhome I have only 20mm clearance between the top of my head and the ceiling .. I can't brush my hair standing up 😁

P.s that vario you linked to is a shed ... I follow him on Instagram it's no braw , he was trying to get 45k for it originally. I reckon 20k at a push is its value ... although I still wouldn't pay that.

After my experience with boiling brake fluid I drove another 1000 miles before getting the brakes fixed - but I did avoid mountains and used the brakes as little as possible

I ride a Harley…….what are brakes🤣
I didn't realise they went fast enough to need them, I thought you just put your feet down!!!
