MOBY GOES TO TURKEY. A tam and pups adventure.

Quick question for the alde users with the heat exchanger how/where do you turn it off and on .. when driving to and from morrissons for gas I was melting ...then we discovered that the radiator behind passenger seat was hot .. and the heat exchanger In box between seats was also hot . Haven't had the alde on and all of that is switched off. Haven't had the cab heating on either just the cold blower but the van is roasting

Mine is on the incoming pipe to the heat exchanger.

On our Dethleffs, it was, effectively, on all the time. You controlled it by simply not having the heating selected as on (so the heating pump wasn’t circulating any fluid).

On our current van there’s a bloody great lever under the bonnet that has a Summer and a Winter position. We have it set, permanently, set to Winter and, again, simply control the heating by selecting it on/off via the control panel.

On both of our vans, the temperature was then determined by the temperature selected on the controller.

This has some webasto thing under the bonnet with pipes from the engine water pipes going through it .. looks like some sort of valve ...has wires going to it but no idea where controls are for it.

My main control panel seems very basic or its not working properly but I can't get much information from it. There's a button that if pressed says engine heating but I assumed that was for heating the engine from the alde and not the other way round . My alde control is the old style with the slide switches it's not digital.

When driving there I had the controls on the dash to cold and the fan on and we got cold air from the dash vents but the radiator behind passenger seat was getting hot

It’s a heat exchanger, warms the van up via the engine and vice versa👍

Yeah but it seems to be warming the van even when switched off

Our Dethleffs had the same slider switch type panel and, From memory, if we didn’t want HX heating we had all sliders at the bottom (the key one being the right hand slider the bottom position being for hot water only).

I have the digital alde controller I have the one with the sliders somewhere i will have a look for it . you are welcome to have it I upgraded my last motorhome to the digital version so I have it somewhere

I didn't know you could change it to the digital one

My Laika has an electronic valve controlled by a switch on the dash. The switch has a fan symbol on it.

Make sure also that the pump control on the panel is not set to 'constant'.

the silver heat exchanger is a plated heat exchanger looks very similar to combi boilers
The water from the engine probably circulates through it when the engine is on
Via the engine water pump
The water in the alde heating system will be circulated with it’s own 12v pump
If the pump isn’t powered I don’t think water will circulate through the radiators
The engine water & alde water never mix

You can buy a kit which comes with a blanking plate with a cut out for the digital version which is square as the one with sliders is rectangular

Well the alde is switched off .. but there's one radiator under the floor behind the rh seat that was hot when we were driving. I've not even looked at the alde yet as busy with other stuff and the switch on my main control panel has the engine heating switch switched off. So I was curious why it was getting hot when I had the van blower on cold .

I've no idea what the webasto valve thing is under the bonnet . Can't see any additional switches on dash with a fan symbol or anything

On my last 3 vans all with alde the pump had to be on to heat any radiators
You’ll fight out 😊

I believe you .

But tell me why a radiator is getting hot with everything switched off🤷‍♂️
We’ve not got the heat exchanger the first owner opted for a Truma E2400 gas heater instead, it works instantly although the Alde doesn’t take long to heat up either.
