MOBY GOES TO TURKEY. A tam and pups adventure.

That's how I thought too because that's been the case with every vehicle I've ever worked on.

But I know nothing about this sulphating thing uncle lenny and bigtwin are talking about

But they say that if the battery is doing that then it won't show the charge.

My brain can't comprehend that so I'm just confuses by the whole bloody thing.

To look at the battery it's normal ,it doesn't look that old. There's no bulges , damage to it anywhere. It doesn't get hot , it doesn't smell , there's no corrosion on terminals or anything. I've no battery warning light coming on . When it went flat yesterday the alternator had still charged my leisure battery from 85ah to full 105ah , it had also powered the lights wipers heater, stereo , 2 satnavs , reverse camera , fridge 12v etc . For the 3/4 hours I was driving. The ONLY thing it hadn't done was charge the starter battery. That makes zero sense to me. Especially as the cables for the b2b etc are all attached to the same terminals on the starter battery that the cables from alternator are. So why would the power come up the cables from alternator and through all the other cables but not go in to the starter battery unless there was something wrong with the starter battery .

And that’s why electrics confuse the life out of me….⚡😳

Irrelavant as the B2B is charging the leisure battery see post #943
And where is the b2b getting it's electric from?

I mean when the engine is running.
Well normally it would be over 14v . But I have b2b etc disconnected this morning till I get this problem sorted.

The leisure battery is charging fine.

That's why it's confusing

I guess if they jack up the van and go underneath and put tester on the alternator itself and it's putting out 13.8 -14.2v then they'll rule out the alternator.
It will still read the same as the on the battery and they will say the alternator is faulty, fecking ejits.

So if the alternator is charging the leisure battery it must be working.

So if the alternator is charging the leisure battery it must be working.
Thats my logic too.

The alternator must be working . But then the old alternator was doing the same .

So I may have changed the alternator for nothing .

I think the starter battery has a disconnected lead between that and the alternator and the only thing charging it is the ablemail balancer

I’m reading that everything else has been checked

But that’s only my opinion 🤔

Fingers crossed it gets sorted asap and Tams able to carry on without all this stress

That's what a jump lead from the battery to earth point on engine would rule out.

OK I'll tell you, it was a loose earth bolt, the guy who found it is looking very smug apparently. Tam said he wire brushed everything before putting it back together.

Glad it's sorted (hopefully) must admit I'd have changed the battery long ago and still be in the poop!
And me, but hey onward and upward to that ferry now (y) (y) (y) (y)
