Keep an eye out for the '5 klm tailback' signs on the autostrada. No I could not read it either!
I would second the recommendation for Lucca but you may be heading south on the coast.

Yes had I seen the recommendation for lucca before I got to pisa I'd have visited but I'm now just on the south outskirts of pisa and not wanting to go back up.

We had a walk down the river and it seems they haven't learned anything since building that tower. It seems no one has a plumb line here. Maybe ianthebuilder needs to come to Italy.. I thought it was me at first but this is definitely no straight.

Although Alberobello is not directly on your route to Bari (it's south-east of the city), it's an amazing place with all the fascinating trulli if you've got time to spare. We've been a couple of times - the little houses are scattered through the countryside.

Bonjourno we left pisa this morning and went to massa marittima. There's a free service aire there so I could empty and refill. Then we visited the old town. It was dead , I don't know where all the people go but I often feel I'm on the set of the walking dead or summit. As many places are completely deserted. Really cold and windy up there though despite it being a very sunny day . Nothing like yesterday. ...wee garage place had a fine collection of old cars and automobilia but it was closed ... tried to get a couple of pictures through the glass. Didn't turn out very well .

We then headed back to the coast and were at a beach west of grosseto now
