MOBY GOES TO TURKEY. A tam and pups adventure.

It's not great when what's classed as a "beautiful" "fantastic" etc parking spot in Italy is what would be described as a shithole in most other places but after 4 attempts to find a parking spot for tonight I'm giving up and just staying in this not great carpark in chiavari. Its not been a great day for Italy. I hope it gets better.

Only pics I've taken today from our doggy walk

Seas looking good for a dip !

Did you not fancy a visit to Portofino ?
We went half way to portofino but signs said maximum width 2.2m so I couldn't go any further. The few parking spots on that route were not the best. We looked at 2 then decided against it. The pics I posted was from where we had stopped

Think you need to get to the east coast as more free sostas and less busy but we saw that snow chains or tyres are needed from November till march across the centre.

Why do I read Tam's threads? Why do I do it to myself? I just get jealous! I want to escape for a bit! Go and see places!

I don't think Mrs F would be happy being away for long periods before the kids are post-University. No.1 has only got a year to finish, No.2 starts in a year's time, but No.3 - presuming he wants to go - is only 14, so I reckon 7-8 years before I can plan to escape for a lengthy period. Ho hum.

Some of you will know me from the Warner's shows and my Parrotsol stand, taking over from Jeremy (Jezport). The idea of having the mid-life crisis and deciding at age 50 to jack in the corporate career and start my own business (which has been fabulous BTW - no regrets!) was in part so that retirement can be a gradual thing, especially with the internet side of the business, and enable -eventually - some escape time. At the moment though, it's very, very full-on, but as anyone with their own business knows being too busy is a nice problem to have!

Patience is a virtue. Being virtuous is deeply overrated!

I often find that is a scare tactic, but off course ignoring them comes with risks.
Yeah sometimes I ignore them but the drivers are nuts in this bloody country and the scooter drivers are worse. So I wasn't taking any chances.

Aye they're needed in most places now but I have a set of chains with me.

They don't fit 🤣🤣 but I do have them. I'm hoping to avoid any snow though. I wanted to do the West coast this time as I've not done it but will see how it goes over the next couple of days.

That bit of coast and the 'cinque terre' towns are very scenic but the roads are a nightmare even the autostrada. Get down to Lucca and beyond.
Only way to make progress quickly is to pay the tolls.
Sorento and Amalfi coast worth a visit but motorhomes are banned from much of the coast road. Roads soooo slooow as well.

Yeah I think we're going to drive through a bit of cinque terre today , we have 10 days to get to Barri for our ferry so not in too much of a rush , I'd just like to see some nice bits on route. Unfortunately I think most of the nice bits are impossible to get to with a motorhome or when you do pass there's nowhere to stop to have a look.

Morning walkies along the beach. Its warm this morning I had to take off my jumper as I was perspiring 🤣🤣

The not very nice to look at carpark was actually very quiet overnight. So it did the job , I'd like to find somewhere a bit nicer today but there's no guarantee.

Yes,you need a driver so that you can sit and gaze out of the window as you glide serenely along the Italian highway. Shame dogs can’t drive……or can they? Maybe you could try that. :ROFLMAO:

I bet the locals are all wrapped up in heavy winter coats.

We were in Naples I think it was March, us in tee shirts & shorts locals in big long winter coats giving us strange looks.

I often find that is a scare tactic, but off course ignoring them comes with risks.

In UK when there is a width restriction sign which adds 'Except for access' one knows there is no real physical restriction, just that somebody wants no large vehicles.

Tam, your post is an example of the reason I asked for captions, so that you could tell us if that aircraft is a Piaggio, which is my guess.

If you did not read the blurb on the post can you please go back and look for us?:LOL:

It's a coast guard plane ...other than that I've no idea. Everything here is in Italian and unlike many other countries they don't provide an English translation so I've no idea what half the stuff is lol. Don't understand most of the road signs either 🤣

I feel like that in wales

Well we drove through cinque terre , I can't see the appeal if I'm honest but there were no places really to stop and the road is very hard going so maybe just not the best for motorhomes. Beautiful sunny day , its very warm my phone app says 18° but i doubt that very much I'd guess more like 23/24° even the dogs are seeking shade. Stopped in La spezia for lunch and a wee walk. Noisy here though as there's a naval base and helicopters coming and going constantly.. Will probably continue down the coast a little more after lunch towards pisa.

Not many motorhomes around in Italy just now, don't see any on the road or in any of the parking places.

Diesel has got cheaper as we go it's around €1.70 a litre here and I got lpg at €0.62 , didn't need much I only squeezed in €7.50 worth but having heard Italy could be awkward with gas I thought I might as well top up now. Although thankfully it's warm enough now not to need the heating

I've a confession to make ...it seems I was on the wrong road coming through cinque terre which is why I missed all the villages 🤦‍♂️ but I've been told it was a nightmare to park anywhere anyway and you had to hike down to the villages from the main road as not suitable for anything bigger than a car. I can't be arsed going back as the road I was on was bad enough. We've now just arrived at a spot near Lerici, there's about 6 other motorhomes here. Just trying to find the 2 paths mentioned that takes you down to the beaches as we're on top of a cliff.
