Exceptional photography TamWe stayed over last night at mëke golu, a dormant volcano , sadly the lake part has been mostly dry since 2015 but its still impressive. This area of Turkey is pretty barren, its the closest to desert they have . We had a nice sunset last night, bit windy this morning but still managed to put the drone up for some photos. Couldn't fly it over the crater as it kept losing signal not sure if it was some kind of interference due to the volcano itself or what as it wasn't that far distance wise and nothing to block the antenna so very strange . Yeah the whole area around there is one big volcano. If you look at the pics you will see there's a few other craters in the background. Interesting place for sureI had no idea of the scale of that volcano until I spotted your motorhome. That is a spookily barren landscape. Here in NZ, we are more than a little wary of volcanoes after the eruption of White Island that killed 22 people in 2019.
Yeah it's sad really that people have been socially conditioned to always concentrate on the future that they completely miss the present. Possessions are the ultimate goals these days. When we packed up work and went on the road in 1998, many of our friends said they wished they could live our lives, but they needed to work for various reasons. Now 25 years later and they've retired, guess just how many of them have taken the chance?
Love the photos of the volcanoes, Tam.
Indeed - including the what and the why... and the when and are they still in use.Very interesting though
They look just like Anatolian Shepherd Dogs which is about right for the area. Friendly but wary of strangers. Used to protect the flocksThose dogs just look sad
I agree who puts a collar like that on a dogIndeed - including the what and the why... and the when and are they still in use.
Did the weather make it dark outside, your pics look as if the ISO has been pushed up a bit.
The dogs with spikey collars , friendly?
They're kangal shepherd dogs , there were several up round those caves .. stopped us from getting any closer as they were barking and going nuts. I'm guessing there was livestock up there and these dogs will protect them to the death. Had my lot shitting themselves unfortunately. I have to admit they made me kinda nervous too. Those dogs just look sad
They were houses and churches of early Christians around 500ad , some are still part of houses others just used as storage sheds.Indeed - including the what and the why... and the when and are they still in use.

They're herd guardian's... the spiked collars are ro stop wolves biting the dogs neck and killing it. They don't harm the dog they protect it.I agree who puts a collar like that on a dog
Yeah anatolian, kangal. Very similar breeds. A local guy told me they were kangals, there's about a dozen of them in this village .They look just like Anatolian Shepherd Dogs which is about right for the area. Friendly but wary of strangers. Used to protect the flocks
Can’t wait to see the correct place as those cave houses are beautiful, so nice some are still occupied. Couldn’t say that about new UK ones in 100 years never mind thousands lolWe arrived in selime this morning, been a shitty day weather wise. I parked in a carpark some clown put on park4night saying it gave a good view of the selime cathedral.... so between rain we ventured out to go see these rock, cave houses and the cathedral ... only to discover afterwards this was not the cathedral or the proper place lol... its further up the road a bit but as the weather's crap I'll visit the proper one tomorrow when it's a bit drier. But may aswel post the pictures of the ones we discovered ..
