MOBY GOES TO TURKEY. A tam and pups adventure.

To the right of the cathedral is a village of rock houses .. I dunno but they remind me of the kkk lol

I can see why you thought of the KKK. What a weird place and worth the €15 but sad you didn’t know about the way to avoid it. Is there something in P4N you missed or maybe they had a different app with info on

Photographs are brilliant as always. Thank you

Carol

Great photos once again Tam, thanks. Just got me wondering how the rocks were formed like that in the first place, any geologists around.
google says:-

How were the rocks in Cappadocia formed?

History of Cappadocia - Tourism in Cappadocia and Urgup ...

Cappadocia region was formed 60 million years ago by erosion of soft layers of lava and ash from Mount Erciyes (Argeus), Mount Hasan and Mount Güllü composing with wind and rain over millions of years. Human settlement at the Cappadocia region dates back to the Paleolithic era.

Well Tam, I tip my hat to you on those photographs. I feel I am there with you and I get the ambience and age of the area. Quite stunning, the dogs give it a real atmosphere. I have been to eastern Turkey and you have caught that beautifully and bought back memories. I think they are your best yet, thank you.

Fantastic photos Tam, Thank you. What a beautiful country with such contrasting landscapes from beaches to volcanoes to long roads to caves to cliff houses to rock houses. The beauty of what you show us is amazing as I always thought of Turkiye as mainly resorts and beaches. You have shown the true beauty of the country and they seem to look after the stray dogs which is a plus(y)

Absolutely brilliant pics fascinating place, thanks for the history lesson as only heard about Cappadocia as my mate went their years ago.
Here's some more history for you.

I always thought cappadocia was just the place with the hot air balloons but it's actually a whole region of Turkey and quite expansive ... it was all Greeks originally.

It's interesting reading and just shows that during world war 1 there were quite a few attrocities going on

Blu made friends with this lovely stray and wanted to take him with us , was a lovely friendly dog , would make someone a lovely pet

After lunch we drove on to belisirma, a small village perched on the side of the ihlara canyon , this canyon has many churches and cave dwellings built in to the rock faces , its very much a tourist trap though and when you drive through you've to dodge the touts wanting you to use their parking or restaurant or tour guides etc .. I just wanted a few pics so I generally just drove on ignoring them 😁

And then I drove to near guzelyurt for an overnight parking spot by an old byzantine church and monestary which has spectacular views all around it. Very cold up here though it was below zero last night.

Lovely sunny morning , going to be heading in the direction if goreme today but possibly a few stops along the way. There's so much to see around this area but trying to fit it in to a route and plan the best days to visit is sometimes difficult. We're at a Weekend again now and from previous experience that usually means very busy in Turkey.

Tam these ima he’s you have posted are on another scale they are on a different dimension and as someone said other worldly, l am absolutely rocked with the variance in what is built out of rock or lava, you cannot even class it as architecture it’s so different. I wish it could talk to us the stories and communities that lived in those strange structures would be so enlightening.
Thanks for posting,brilliant.

I then went in to visit the rock cathedral and monestary, I'm a little pissed off as I got charged €15 to go in yet I discovered later you can just walk in from the other side with no charge like the 2 French and 1 German motorhomers did... so 6 of them in for free and I got screwed for 15 euro lol. That'll no be happening again.

Anyway it's an amazing structure ... must have taken them years to carve all that out ...there are rooms all the way up to the top of the cliff. Wow Tam that's stunning

Was any of the locations atmospheric or eerie where you felt a presence from the otherside?
Yes definitely a few that feel a little strange , but also when you go inside some of these churches you really do wonder how long it took the people to carve some of these , I mean when you go in a normal church or cathedral and you look at the pillars and arches etc and sure they are carved Stone ...but they were done individually and then built one on top of the other. Wheres these ....I mean its just a big rock or cliff and they've tunnelled in , carved the ceilings the arches the pillars out of what's already there ... it really is amazing. And some of them are so perfect the ceilings are smooth the pillars perfectly round and detailed carving etc. Back in a time when they didn't have the tools and equipment we have now. . It must have taken years

So as you may have guessed we are now in love valley goreme cappadocia, sadly no balloons today and none tomorrow either apparently. But maybe Sunday. Another fantastic landscape , surprisingly quiet I got a cracking parking spot. 5 minute walk away they've got camels, donkeys smaller than ela, land-rover rides, quad bikes ....you name it . Anything to milk the tourist lol. There's lots of Turkish hamsters here there are burrows everywhere which is driving ela crazy and she's digging her own burrows trying to catch them lol. ..also spotted a fox earlier.

Glad your enjoying it Tam I knew you would, 🙂 although it was a lot warmer when we toured the place, when we were down near Syria we headed north easterly towards Iran to a place with a big lake called Van, and it was flipping cold then and I think that was around mid May, so it'll be Baltic now lol
Ps great pics, that drone does a great job, I've had 3 or 4 of them and wrecked them all! 🤣

Thanks for more really amazing pics Tam. You should be getting well paid by the Turkish Tourist Board, or whatever they’re called. What an astoundingly varied place Tukiye is, though, eh? Mother Nature at her best. 👍

Tam, are you considering a book or calendar made up of your best pics? I would definitely be interested in a large format photo book of your highlights (dogs can be included😁) and someone on here might know a cheap self publishing method. It seems a pity to waste your obvious talent. I don’t know how many prints would be needs to make it viable but, again, someone might.
