MOBY GOES TO TURKEY. A tam and pups adventure.

Right so here's a few pics ... not very exciting to be honest but hey ho.

Border was a joke , I arrived at Greek side 09.30 ... there was 2 lanes 1 for cars 1 for busses motorhomes so I obviously went in that one ... someone opened the barrier as I approached so I drove through ...up to the booth and no one in it ... meanwhile all the cars going through smooth on the other side .. no one came near me .. I sat for 20 minutes confused as hell then I got out and walked round to the other side of the booth ... grumpy greek said you have to just wait then snatched my passport from me .. scanned that then asked for my v5 ..so I went back to van and got that . Back to booth gave him v5 he typed a load of stuff in to computer then asked for dog passports I got them ...he had a quick look then said he wanted to see inside camper.. so I took him round. He wanted dogs out so I had to get them on leads and bring them out the van of course there were strays so lots of barking pulling and commotion ... he couldn't open my toilet door so he was even more grumpy.. then tossed my paperwork at me and said go ..

So then you drive over the river .... Greek army on one side very grumpy ... Turkish army on other side they smiled .. then past more guards another river and then the Turkish passport booth.. very nice happy guy he comes talks to.me and the dogs only wanted my passport no interest in dogs passports also v5 ..gives me them back tells me to park and go get insurance then come back so I went ,got robbed and returned, then he Says OK go have a good trip ... I drive up to the next booth and he sends me back for an x Ray... had to take dogs out again more barking and commotion, finally scan van get sent back to booth one ...he scans passport and v5 again then sends me back to booth 2 ... finally I get to.leave. fuel light came on as soon as I entered motorway in Greece so I was panicking ... passed 5 petrol stations on opposite side of the motorway but none on mine for about 15km finally got one , filled up diesel...they had no gas there so I pulled in to next one for gas as had fire on a lot the last week . It was then I discovered no feckin Internet etc so had to just follow my nose to find road heading south and not to Istanbul. And the rest you know from previous posts.

I'm.glad that days over ... hopefully tomorrow better. This parkup is not the best it's noisy very noisy but I want the bank tomorrow to change some money before moving on .

Not that nice a town... lots of stray dogs but they have an automatic dog feeding station which is cool ...I'll take a picture tomorrow.

Well I'm glad your all sorted Tam and didn't throw the towel in, I knew you wouldn't but now you & the pups are in Asia another continent ticked of the list, we all hope you enjoy it and keep the write ups & pics coming, I've very fond memories of travelling all around Turkey, you'll also notice the further south you go past all the tourist areas and towards Syria the price of stuff drops to dirt cheap, look out on the roadside for wee ramshackle cafes etc selling food like gozleme & lahmacun they're delicious and of course the Turkish delight (lokum) and noughat... the chocolate one is to die for! Lol but above all enjoy it mate 👍

Good support from your well respected and past travelling mate, all this stress will be forgotten in a few days.

To save me searching etc . Nationwide account holders

I'm sure I read somewhere that there's no fees for withdrawing cash abroad with flexplus account... is this correct? Just incase I can't get euros exchanged.

We have a Nationwide Member Credit Card which I was able to apply for because we have Nationwide FlexPlus account. We do not pay fees when using it in France or Spain, we haven’t used it in other countries.

Evening all ....8pm here , this changing time zones doesn't half knock you stupid.

So blu woke me up at 7am this morning licking my face and demanding attention. Managed to put her off till 8 then got up had breakfast a wee walk but icy cold wind this morning so it was a short walk. Then found the bank to get some currency changed , gave her 200 euro in 20's but after her inspecting every note she shoved one back at Me... wasn't a very happy or polite woman in fact she gave me a look like I'd pissed in her slipper.. so €180 got me 5819 Tl , works out around 32.5l to the euro , I then headed down the coast , passed this war cemetery memorial ....

And then found a wee spot to park up and have some lunch .

After lunch we headed off in search of Troy , I passed the museum etc which was closed and no one around so continued up the wee road to the carpark automatic barrier that went up as I approached...as soon as I'd parked 4 big bloody tour busses came in behind me full of Chinese or Japanese. .... that was the first thing putting me off.. then a pack of 5 big dogs appeared and my lot were going nuts in the van barking and bouncing about . I nipped over to the booth to find out if dogs could go in and the cost and was surprised to be told 850Tl and no dogs . Well 850 lire is nearly £20 which I thought was a bit expensive as I've looked at pics of the troy ruins online and it's not that impressive to be honest. So between the bus loads of tourists , the admission cost and the fact I'd have to leave my dogs in the van to be barking and going nuts at the strays outside i decided not to bother with troy.

Cost me 70lire to get out the carpark lol ...only in it 10 minutes

Anyway I then drove on some very interesting roads to a park up at a deserted holiday complex on the beach where I initially thought was stray dog free but nope there's a few about here too . One very friendly one with a tag in his ear has camped up outside the camper .

It's still really cold here and doesn't look to be getting much warmer anytime soon so I've not decided where we are going tomorrow yet but I may just head for izmir ... I think if I want any warm weather I'm gonna have to head a bit south fairly quickly . Not entirely sure what's worth seeing on route so if anyone has been before and has any recommendations etc let me know ... but I'm gonna be heading down the coast towards antalaya over the next week or so I think . I'm missing the slightly warmer temps of the peloponnese. Having to put fire on every night at the minute. I'm glad it heats up the van but I'd rather be a bot warmer without it.

Tam seen this on ebay 166571806886 its even got a granny annex

As I said previously Tam you'd be better visiting all these places on the way back up again in a few months time, as regards places on the way down, Bodrum, Marmaris etc are all just holiday resorts and although they are nice in their own way they'll still be cool this time of year, Kusadasi is nice but I reckon once your turn the corner further south and your own the Southern coast heading east towards Antalaya etc the weather should start to improve from there, Kas is lovely and one of my favourite spots in Turkey and although we used a campsite there is good wild camping places along the lagoon and marina side (I'll mark it here in a screenshot) its a spectacular coast road for miles upon miles but I'd say once you get in that area you'll be warmer, after Antalaya you've Lara beach, Side etc will all be nice hopefully be sure and check out all the Roman ruins, Amphitheatres etc all along the way, there's literally 100s of them, once you get below Alanya your in real Turkey, tourists are scarce this far down but I found it fantastic and loved it all the way to Syria (obviously don't turn south when you get that far!) 😂

I just let the dogs out for their last pee and the one stray dog that's been sleeping outside the van all evening barricaded the door and wouldn't let my dogs back in ...growling and snarling at them . I had to go out and push it away ... First time I've ever had to do that with any strays. He was very friendly earlier when we were out walking but he had jade and blu scared to come in the van. Milo of course full of bravado facing him up . Felt really bad chasing him off but can't have my own dogs being intimidated.

Most of the strays I've seen here so far look in good condition. But there's certainly a lot of them.

I liked that he chased the bully dog off.
I feel sorry for the poor thing. Despite what non doggy folk think the strays may well be happy but they obviously crave human interaction or they wouldn't hang around the vans ...its not just for food or they'd leave once they'd eaten.. they must wonder why some dogs get homes etc.. it breaks my heart seeing them.

Hate chasing them away too. , but I also have to protect MY pack .
