MOBY GOES TO TURKEY. A tam and pups adventure.

Snap.

Park up on Kennedy Cadesi, a few minutes walk from the Blue Mosque?

Back in 2012 with our old Hymer, came in from the wrong side over the Bosporus and had to do a u turn to get back on the right side of the road, that was interesting. :giggle:

Your photos are much better than mine. :p

When did you visit? I've noticed its not on P4Night anymore but you can still see the vans parked up on Google.

We were there in early 2022 but yes it's still the go to spot in Istanbul...
we loved the location beside the river watching the ships coming in and out of the Black Sea through the Bosporus and its so close to the Blue Mosque and the Grand Bizarre etc and all the sights, I think it was something like 5 or 6 quid a night to stay probably a tenner now but well worth it
Paul

Just for Tam or anyone else's interested the paid parking that pjay and I are referring to is the red circle bottom of the pic riverside but if your in a wee van there's free parking at the 2nd red circle right up at the Blue Mosque but we were way too big for there but it's free & we all know the big yin likes a freebie lol

I was that soldier! 😂
And at 9 metres plus an extra metre of bicycle rack on the back made for an 'Interesting' drive about town! lol
(Probably why I drive a wee van now!) View attachment 860610View attachment 860611
I think I will just be going round the outskirts of Istanbul, izmir was bad enough ...massive city and suicidal drivers it's truly terrifying

By the time you get back round to Istanbul you'll be used to it and driving just like a native! 😂👍

I'm having to drive like a native now just to get anywhere but it goes against everything ever taught on a road.. I saw one accident today guy right through the windscreen of a car ...blood going everywhere obviously dead . Too many idiots playing on the road trying to outsmart each other , they don't like being overtaken I've noticed this , they zip from lane 3 over to lane 1 sometimes the hard shoulder and fly past whatever just to get back In front and then brake etc ... sheer madness.

Yes I agree they’re chuffing crazy in Turkey, even the taxi drivers, you would have thought they at least would have a semblance of safety and common sense.
It was the worst ride of our lives he was driving at about 130 mph on some roads, overtaking manoeuvres were pure madness, it’s a miracle we got out alive.

Agree with CaptainPaul you've gone all that way, you might as well, try driving in about 2am, shouldn't be too bad then. ;)

You need to make sure you go over Bridge number 3, also known as Sultan Selim bridge in Istanbul and then it’s very easy. Some of our group didn’t and found it a bit of a challenge shall we say! It’s also worth avoiding it of an evening if Galatasaray are playing at home, I’m not joking, we were travelling out of Istanbul on a bus and the fans park anywhere including on the motorway.

The only time I used to drink Guinness was at the Boat Show when it was held at Earl; Court, where their bar stand was always located over their dedicated cellars.

A friend of mine who was a BA Captain, had always been in a group who worked behind the bar since when he was one of a group of ATC controllers, when he was Watch Supervisor at Heathrow.

We bought our first round of Guinness, but after that mysteriously pints got passed across the bar and the barman walked away, or we handed over a £10 note and were given change of - £10.

I can tell the story now because John died 1 1/2 ago.

One year I met up with our crew from 'Evaine' (12-metre Americas Cup Class ) and the Guinness was flowing, but also someone started buying Beefeater Gin from opposite.

We overstayed our welcome and had to be asked to leave by security at 2100.

[No damage to people or property was caused in the telling of this story]
The Boat Show was my first time of trying Guinness, it was excellent as it was so fresh. next time I had it in a pub it wasn't as good.

Oi who you calling fati
Are you in Bodrum yet? There's a wee campsite with long termers in it at the top of the town Zetas kamp it's called, bit of a shit hole and has about 100 dogs living there too lol but if your just looking for someone to talk to.... there's also a wee pub right on the beach owned by a guy called Mustafa and you can sit in his seats overlooking the beach and steal his WiFi lol

After that we left with didyma set in the satnav , the satnav quoted just over 7 hours to do 268km .... which is bonkers but because its programmed as truck motorhome the bloody thing takes me around areas that have a ban on trucks , problem Is I don't know where or when it's doing this so I followed it blindly for a good few hours , it took me a daft route round izmir which was a nightmare and then it took me another scenic route after that.. we stopped for lunch and a walk on the beach before kusadasi

Met these strays on the beach , mother and pup I think. Had to wait till I'd got my lot back in the camper before they'd come near and they still didn't trust me enough to come get a pet etc . So I left them some food before we drove off.

This is the cardboard cut out police i mentioned yesterday lol.

We then found a place ro stop so we could have another wee walk and get a photo of the castle in kusadasi. No nice parking spots there though so just a brief visit .

And then drove on to Akbuk Didyma where we are staying tonight. Loads of strays here too but the place is littered with restaurants and the dogs all sleep there .. again most are very friendly. Quite a few really old ones which is good ...means they must be looked after .

Haven't decided if I'll move again tomorrow or whether I'll spend another night here, depends on whether the dozen strays nearby stop barking or not lol , if they keep me up.all night I'll be moving Tomorrow again..

Still not sure what to make of turkey ....its different from anywhere else I've been but I still have new country jitters.. Will see if that settles
