MOBY GOES TO TURKEY. A tam and pups adventure.

Yes Bodrum and Marmaris are tourist areas but not at this time of year I reckon, mainly because of no direct flights. Kas and Kalkan area is lovely and several coves along the coast towards Antalya. I doubt that you will like Antalya itself _ worked there 30 years ago and it was too big then and I believe it has grown since.

One tip for a cheap grub out is around any market area - good cheap food, lively atmosphere but usually dry.

I feel sorry for the poor thing. Despite what non doggy folk think the strays may well be happy but they obviously crave human interaction or they wouldn't hang around the vans ...its not just for food or they'd leave once they'd eaten.. they must wonder why some dogs get homes etc.. it breaks my heart seeing them.

Hate chasing them away too. , but I also have to protect MY pack .
Yes, I agree Tam it is very hard. Like I said I am happy on my sofa with my two dogs. I couldn't deal with the stray dog situation in so many countries. You are right you have to put your dogs first as heart breaking as it is chasing off the odd stray that becomes aggressive:heartbreak:

Donegal it ain't 😉 🇲🇦

The only time I used to drink Guinness was at the Boat Show when it was held at Earl; Court, where their bar stand was always located over their dedicated cellars.

A friend of mine who was a BA Captain, had always been in a group who worked behind the bar since when he was one of a group of ATC controllers, when he was Watch Supervisor at Heathrow.

We bought our first round of Guinness, but after that mysteriously pints got passed across the bar and the barman walked away, or we handed over a £10 note and were given change of - £10.

I can tell the story now because John died 1 1/2 ago.

One year I met up with our crew from 'Evaine' (12-metre Americas Cup Class ) and the Guinness was flowing, but also someone started buying Beefeater Gin from opposite.

We overstayed our welcome and had to be asked to leave by security at 2100.

Merhaba amigos

Our stray friend from last night was full of cuddles and apologies this morning for grumping at my Doggies... poor girl just wants a home I think , such a lovely dog she is , felt so sorry for her sleeping out there all night, but I gave her a good pet this morning and some breakfast before we moved on.

She has a tag in her ear so I'm guessing she's been spayed, of all the stray dogs I see around only some have tags the others don't so I'm wondering if they only catch and spey the females and just leave the males be , I've not seen many pups just the odd one here and there ...but a lot of young dogs. But also a lot of older ones and many are quite fat so obviously getting plenty to eat. Although not sure where that one from last night would be getting food as there was nothing and no one around there.

Anyway on our way back to motorway we passed these statues of Hektor and Achillies.. just a tourist draw for a small village , they're not old or have and historic value etc.. but still nice for a photo

I then found a wee beach that once again I hoped was dog free so my lot could have a runaround and not be on their guard but once again my plan was foiled and 4/strays turned up.... 3 of which look siblings.

All very young and friendly , gave them a pat and just a few bits of food as again they look well fed and they weren't far from a few restaurants etc so I think they get looked after.

I then stopped at a supermarket to pick up some more dog food as I didn't have enough to be giving it out to strays aswell as my own.. picked up a 15kg sack for 695Tl so around £18.50 , not too bad . Don't have room in this van to carry a huge supply though but I think I'm only going to feed the ones I meet that are in remote places away from people and restaurants or if they look like they really need a meal as unlike some I met in Morocco they do all look in good health here .....so far.

So after the dogs walk we got back on the main road and headed south .... we had all sorts of weather today ... only about 30 minutes in to our 4 hour drive we had snow and sleet ...

And then the weird thing , we entered this really long tunnel , must have been 2 or 3 miles long and when we came out the other side it was dry and sunny

Very weird , anyway we continued on , the drivers here are just another level , the busses and trucks being the worst ...they seem to just want to.kill you . The car drivers have zero lane discipline. No hazard perception what so ever and its a free for all most of the time .... a lot of the roads have 3 lanes and it seems normal practice to drive in the middle one but overtake in either lane 1 or 3 whichever takes your fancy. Everyone does this lorries buses and cars and it seems the police don't care . Most of the police are cardboard cutouts, with cardboard cars with flashing lights attached lol its unreal , so anyway We headed for Foça , north west of izmir, dave from dave n marsha recomended it as they've stayed here. Unfortunately the spot they recommended you can't access as its been barricaded off so I'm parked on the street leading to it by the beach , its quiet and close to town so will do us one night.

Had a walk along in to the town , nice town very touristy ... Still cold and very windy however. Lots of stray dogs in town and lots of stray cats.. most of the dogs again are friendly but a few are quite aggressive and on 2 occasions locals had to chase 2 away as they were snarling and running towards us. Not so great when you've 4 dogs on leads . But we managed and made it back to.the van unscathed.

Not many people speak english it would seem , and I'm not really getting friendly vibes from most , no other campers about either , I've not seen one today . Most likely head towards bodrum tomorrow I think. I'm hoping it improves , I'm missing the sun and at least some interaction with other people. I think things are always better in the sun .

Aw, that stray looks so thin, well done for giving her a good feed :giggle:
Yeah in the photos it looks like her ribs were visible but they really weren't I was giving her a good rub and cuddle this morning and she didn't feel boney , so I'm not sure if the pics give an accurate look. She was in good health no scars or signs of flea bites etc ... pads and claws all good . You'd never know close up that she was a stray, same with the 3 white ones , they were all in good condition.

But she did seem hungry ....but not starving . Of course there's no way to tell what they are eating it could just be whatever scraps they find round bins etc.

But I'll Continue feeding the ones that hang around me when parked up.

Wait until you get to Istanbul you'll wish you'd got the bus!

Yeah they're mad lol , it's the fact they've put blue and red flashing lights on them aswell .. like most of the locals know they're there , I've only seen a handful of actual police cars on the road. And they seem completely disinterested

1 tip Tam, from driving in Turkey years ago, if someone flashes their lights at you it means "get out of the way I'm coming through" - they're not letting you through!

We had a crazy taxi ride across Istanbul one time, lots of face offs between drivers down the narrow back streets as to who was going to reverse out of the way. I wouldn't fancy taking an MH through Istanbul. As our taxi driver said, "In England obeying traffic lights is compulsory, in Italy it is optional, in Istanbul they're just decorative!"

. I wouldn't fancy taking an MH through Istanbul.
I was that soldier! 😂
And at 9 metres plus an extra metre of bicycle rack on the back made for an 'Interesting' drive about town! lol
(Probably why I drive a wee van now!)
