no, you just swop the licence you have for a Portugese one. If the Portugese have no requirement to do it within a time period then it does not have to be done until it is due to be renewed.

That’s interesting to know

Thanks

Nigel if it's anything like the Spanish medical / test and you pass you can request you keep your C1 or here it's the B1 Janie kept hers, as you know I lost mine because here with only one eye, you can only have a B licence 3500kg but kept my full motorcycle licence. ?
This is what happens in Spain. ? Bob.

Never seen any of that down here Bob

Well I've certainly seen some Spanish men wearing that type of 1970s 'fashion statement jumper' when we've been in Spain.

Can we be pedantic - "No licence, not insured" might only be true when driven on the public road. And JJ had a licence.

He was quoting Olley. 15 years ago it was a wide held belief that an RV of any weight could be driven on a car licence Oh the forum discussions we had '\

Just read the OP. He did not have a valid licence for that vehicle.

And, Ollie admits not having a valid licence for that RV.

No defence in either case. Just being pedantic.

I seem to remember when we had these licences

the world would be a boring place if we were all the same..

In Portugal, it is the vehicle which is insured, not the driver, if a vehicle is more than ten years old you can only get third party.

Also when you change your English licence to Portuguese, the C1+E is not transferrable, if anyone knows any different, please let us know as soon as, as we are in this predicament right now.
My Portuguese car is 2006, I still insure it fully comp, any driver over the age of 25.

But not valid for that particular vehicle.

You’ll probably find it very difficult to insure a road going vehicle without a valid driving license for said vehicle.

At 72 I had to have a medical to regain my C1 so I can drive a 3.8t MH....but no medical to drive my old 2t V8 Jag....

The licencing rules make little sense..... what has a treadmill test to do with fitness to drive? - it just proves I can walk ...

Statistics show most accidents are caused by the under 25s - should we raise the driving age to 26 then?

JJ

I'm on a 3-yearly renewal due to Type 1 diabetes, which requires my GP to fill in a DVLA form basically saying I'm fit to drive. This isn't complicated given my GP has access to my records and covers categories B and C1, i.e. up to 7.5 tonnes.

The renewal for C and CE is more onerous for me because of diabetes - it's annual and the DVLA require an independent medical opinion. So a report from my consultant, another from a consultant in the same team, and then to a DVLA-nominated consultant to interview me and check I'm managing my diabetes and know the rules.

This happened one step at a time as the DVLA read one report and requested the next.

If you have a clean bill of health, I think you'll just need your GP to sign off on your fitness to drive.

He admitted he was In the wrong way keep debating the issue. Let him get on with his life.
The one thing I know JJ is more than able to look after himself and probably like me wondering how many feel they have to post the same information over and over again, some one will have to have the last word no doubt but JJ has given a totally honest account and paid the price.
I'm sure though we will have a few more posts repeating what has already been said over and over again.
