Pfffftt that's nothing............... I once had an Allegro.

I feel for you, I’ll bet it’s still traumatic for you now a days ?

However desperate I was to drive back in the day.
There’s no way I would of had an Allegro ??

Now in no way do I condone JJ in his choice to not follow the rules. However how many on this forum choose to run their Motorhome knowing in excess of their MAM.

What is more dangerous driving a legally weighed Motorhome without the required licence or driving Motorhome that is overweight.

Well that is an interesting question, but it ignores other factors. To have the right license one might need an eye test,or maybe a check on heart condition. Or maybe the driver has had other health problems that affect safety. Your question is valid but it assumes the driver is not causing greater risk through health issues.
The danger of the van being overweight is very serious, but easily checked at a weighbridge. Health issues are much more complex.

@podif is its easily checked at a weigh bridge, why don't more drivers check then?
I know some who know they are overweight.

So do I. I even offered to take my mate to a weighbridge, 1 e, .
" WTF do i want to know the weight for?"

personally I knowingly break the law quite regularly, but retain the moral high ground knowing that the particular law is wrong. Many other people also knowingly stretch/break laws knowing that even if "shit happens" and they get caught out there will be no repercussions. On the scale of law breaking, driving a motorhome 300kg heavier on paper than a licence allows is trivial. had it been weighed, I expect it would have been under 3500kg anyway with just JJ and his belongings onboard. So any wrongdoing is limited to a weight plate and a v5 (or portugese equivalent). Not the crime of the century, that's for certain

I recon every time a meet finishes and vans start heading home, I recon more than a few will be over the drink limit. It’s easy to criticise and Just as easy to make a mistake .I wish JJ well and feel sure he will sort it out in due course .We all live and learn lol.

And how many break speed limits on a daily basis , potentially far more dangerous :Eeek:

With his stash of FB pies I can't believe for one minute it would be below 3500kg! :giggle:

More seriously, if it could be down-plated that would solve JJ's weight issue but whether that is realistic for him I don't know, only he can determine that if he wishes to.

Many van chassis come out of the factory with a design weight over 3500kg and the running gear might be authorised up to 3850/4000/4250kg.

Therefore a MH might be above the paper GVW but not over the design weight in which case there is no danger, only a legal infringement if the driver does not hold a C1 licence.

Why does exceeding a posted limit make a driver 'dangerous'? Under many conditions it isn't safe to travel anywhere near the posted limit: conversely it is safe under many conditions to exceed it. How was it derived? Every A road anywhere in the UK is subject to a 60mph limit (there are exceptions of course). I, and probably you, could name roads where to travel at 60mph would be lunacy. I can name many others that are safe at speeds well in excess of 60mph in good conditions.
