Here’s a weight issue for comparison, A Truck and Artic are limited to 54mph, a 7.5t MH limited to 60mph on UK Motorways and it’s similar abroad and yet a Coach with 50ish people on board flash by at 70mph at well over 7.5t, there is no logic to many so called laws.
Coaches are legally limited to around 61 mph. ?

We've been back in the UK after spending most of the last 10 years either in the outback of Scotland or mainland Europe and since returning I've found hgvs traveling a lot faster than they used to. There were always some that came past on the motorway doing over 60 but mostly they sat at 50ish, now we've been on the M20 and the M25 a couple of times this last couple of weeks and sat doing about 55ish and most lorries are stomping past us, all countries vehicles. Im guessing theres just not the resources out there to deal with the speeding and we as a country don't follow up on the foreign registered vehicles braking the limits, but what about the UK registered ones, are they being fined?

Why does exceeding a posted limit make a driver 'dangerous'? Under many conditions it isn't safe to travel anywhere near the posted limit: conversely it is safe under many conditions to exceed it. How was it derived? Every A road anywhere in the UK is subject to a 60mph limit (there are exceptions of course). I, and probably you, could name roads where to travel at 60mph would be lunacy. I can name many others that are safe at speeds well in excess of 60mph in good conditions.

Perhaps you intentionally missed the words POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS in my post which indicates that it could be , not is dangerous.
Speed limits are the law and the weight limits on driving licence groups are the law and to exceed those limits could put the public at risk.
Speed limits are there to some degree because without them drivers could not be trusted to drive at a safe speed and many drivers think they know better and question and ignore some speed limits and people are injured and die as a result .

Hi JJ as I said perhaps we shall never know ???

That being the case we shouldn’t welcome anyone until they subscribe ?
Let's hope that the welcome we do give will be a lot warmer than the one some people have given to Willhamburger when he chose to become an active member. Otherwise I suspect most will decide that the dark side (aka Facts) is friendlier.

How Katie pulled boris, is the book where author bought rv, not realising he didnt have the correct license to drive it.

Not quite correct.
Trucks over 7.5t the speed limit is 60 mph in the UK, however they have a 90kmh (56mph) limiter fitted. The speed limit for coaches is 70 mph if under 12m, 60 over 12m.
Under 12m they used to have a 70 mph limiter fitted under the latest EU rules they now have a 100kmh limiter (62mph).
All rather confusing as UK speed limits are higher than the limiters fitted under EU law.

dabhand the author bought an rv to go travelling in, ans was sold one that he didnt haven't a license for.
It was shortly before they were setting off on their travels, that he found out his licence was not sufficient, so he had to pay for HGV to cover him.
That was the name of the book he wrote, stating what had happened.
Did the salesman know if you needed another licence to drove the rv??

@lenny do believe the 60mph is fir anything over 3.5t.

Even more confusing when you remember that the speed limits for motorhomes are based upon an entirely different criteria to trucks and coaches. They are based upon "unladened weight" rather that maximum gross weight. And makers do not publish (and probably don't know) the "unladen weight" of their motorhomes as defined by the law, and the V5 do not record it either.

Oh the fun we have ...............

Nope Sue, That is the MGW which is not the criteria in the UK. See above

Thanks for that,so they can legally tromp along at 70mph which is 10mph above my own 7.5t MH, with 2 people in it and they with 50+ souls on board.
If that alone isn’t proof that the so called laws on vehicles are not fit for purpose.

Used to be allowed in the outside lane as well.

I don’t know if that still stands

That may well be but they are going well over that when they fly past me,they can’t be governed as are trucks.
Yes they are just at higher limits.

Trucks over 7.5t the speed limit is 60 mph in the UK, however they have a 90kmh (56mph) limiter fitted.
Whereas the foreign hgv's , many of them will sit on their 96kphlimiter

Under 12m they used to have a 70 mph limiter fitted under the latest EU rules they now have a 100kmh limiter (62mph).
So we've Uk trucks at 56mph, foreign trucks at 60mph, coaches at 62mph & 70 mph :rofl:then throw in the knob head UK companies & royal mail who limit their UK trucks to 50/52/etc; Fair enough if the rules were "anything under 70mph max speed only in the 2 inside lanes .On a dual carriageway no overtaking whatsoever."

All rather confusing as UK speed limits are higher than the limiters fitted under EU law.
But EU law always takes precedence except where national laws offer greater security or safety. So in these cases the lower UK limits always apply under the "greater safety" option.

@lenny do believe the 60mph is fir anything over 3.5t.
No , as above.

I thought that until recently when someone corrected me that they are now banned.

I once had an Ambassador which I think was a sort of porky allegro.
To my eternal shame, I had a princess. But so did my dad and I killed that one
