Is almost everyone on here loaded?

Hubby and I have one state pension and two tiny personal pensions between us. I gave up work early last year after my mum died and I thought life's too short to wait another 8 years for the government to give me my pension. Fortunately, I inherited a small sum from mum, but that covers all motorhome expenses, diesel and site fees (I still refuse to pay more than £25/night). We are certainly nowhere near "loaded", many jobs need doing on the house but we don't have the funds to do them. Then again, we are away in the motorhome most of the time. Next step is to take as much equity out of the house, we have no one to leave it to. ::bigsmile:
Concierge Camping Sussex, December 28th £145 per night. But you will meet the "right" sort of people.
This is for a pitch with an ‘emperor tent’ at Concierge, not a basic pitch. Having stayed there a few times I can say that the only people I conversed with were the staff, who were absolutely ‘normal’. Inverted snobbery seems to be a thread here. BTW, I am working class, with a strong Glasgow (Govan) accent.

I don’t know if I am a snob or an inverted snob. What I do know is if the bloke who was in the earlier series goes to Concierge I certainly do not want to go there and meet him or anyone else of his ilk.

As usual my op has been misconstrued in to various other thread drifts, I suppose it's my lack of higher education vocabulary, all I was saying at the start is why do people think that up to £100 a night is good value, have they just got that much money it makes no difference, nothing to do with how actual money they have, because it seems to be across the board, as has been demonstrated by another thread it's quite easy to find places at a tenner even fun sites.
I know I am the skinflint of the forum and people just like to say I'm loaded but far from it , but I am quite happy to not spend money I don't have to and as not taking it with me , there's no chance I have three kids that I have looked after all my life and hope to do when I have gone, I didn't have them to abandon them, I hope I have I have provided for them which I admit my parents provided for me and I hope the kids still provide for my grandkids in the future.
And the fact I haven't got a private pension is because my money has always gone to looking after my kids and I don't regret one penny.
I have been on the wine now so forgive me if this post offends anyone.

Im happily paying between £35 and more per night to get away, if youve got a moho use it and dont moan otherwise get rid.

I have a motorhome which I use every single day... but I never pay "between £35 and more to get away".

I hope I don't have to "get rid" :whistle2:

My sister is a bit like that ...we call her hyacinth as she really does have false airs and graces

Does she call you Onslow? :D

Today's younger generations seem to want everything now and don’t look after or appreciate anything in a throw away society.
It used to seem like that to me with many of the younger generation but then I put myself in their shoes.
Let's say they're in their 20's and maybe full of optimism, perhaps with a degree and 40 grand of student loan debt, but working unavoidably at a low wage or uncertain minimum hours job, at say £30k p.a.
Virtually no hope of raising maybe £50k deposit for a min of £230k flat (in West Sussex) and needing a mortgage of £180k plus all the associated fees. If they rent a flat they'll be virtually drained by rent of around £1400 a month. Why wouldn't they spend on stuff to have now?
My wife and I in our mid 20's were virtually reclusive for two years living with our parents whilst doing two jobs each to save for the deposit on our first house in 1970. I worked in local gov't with a normal wage for an admin role of £1400 p.a. and a pub 5 nights a week and Sat and Sunday lunchtimes. However, the two bed terraced house was (only) £4250 (three times my salary) and the deposit £500. Three times today's youngster's £30k salary wouldn't even buy a lock up garage in my area now.

Thank you for your advice although I won’t be taking it. We don’t use site facilities so are not paying £35 or more a night just to park up. It’s CL’s and CS’s for us and nothing over £20. In fact nearer to £10 is better. I’m not loaded but would say I’m comfortable, but not foolish enough to pay for what I don’t need which would make me distinctly uncomfortable. Here we are on a CL with extensive views over open countryside, we can’t see another camper/caravan, it’s quite and peaceful. We are not looking at a sea of other units and watching someone’s kids go round and round on their bikes or listening to other peoples noise. So all in all I’m happy and won’t be “getting rid” just yet

You haven't offended me. My Stepdad always says even if you are a millionaire that's no reason to just spend money. These threads always go astray but I think mostly because some of us like each other and we just join in then the subject gets changed. This thread nearly went down the toilet earlier :giggle: (y)

when anyone is wildcamping can i ask where you empty your cassett and where do you find to fill with water ?
as said plenty of places espècially in europe .UK can be a problem.
We use park4night and have the symbol for service points enabled. There are quite a few at petrol stations. Some free, some a few euros or free if you buy fuel. We also use public motorhome parking areas with facilities and sometimes, like right now, we've booked onto a private area with leccy to give all the batteries a good charge.
Did you know that the converted 'sierra espuña' new service area on the A7 has dump facilities on the southbound side over by the lorry wash? Saw them saturday morning.
No idea if there is also one north bound?

Also when I stopped at Carrefours at Jaca on friday they had just finished installing a dump & fill point over by the old Bodega. There were a dozen mh's parked up there then.
Three times today's youngster's £30k salary wouldn't even buy a lock up garage here now.
& that is the problem.

Charlie I think the problem is that apart from a few people who question everything the majority accept prices whatever they may be. I first noticed it when we moved to devon & used to return to London how people just accepted as the norm prices that continued to rise on everything regardless.
Now having spent 20 years looking in from outside the prices & wages in many cases absolutely amaze me. £18 for a burger? 2 X lasagne, 2 x pizza , 1 x salad for £98 ?? & they want a tip??.List is endless. Just look at how they pay the scamming price for fuel in the Uk?
My daughter wanted sponge sanding pads, £8,96 for 6 . Same make ,same brand, I buy 10 for 60cents. When you are on the treadmill it becomes "normal".

I think I'll buy gold coins with my savings and cunningly hide them beyond the wit of any thief, in an old sock, under the squeaky floorboard, behind the kitchen dresser...

That reminds me, husband did a job once for a carpet shop owner he did lots of work for him and knew him and his wife very well.

He was doing some electrical work and pulled out a bureau where rolls and rolls of cash were stashed! He said he's never worked as fast in his life to do the job and put it all back. Never to be spoken of again, he reckons there was about 50k 😂

I haven't been in a pub for maybe 15 years but was flabbergasted when going into an ordinary town centre one last week in Brighton to pick up my son to give him a lift home. A pint of bitter was £8.20. No wonder the youngsters get pre-loaded at home before going out for the evening.

I quite agree, it makes not an iota of difference how much money you have , which this thread seems to have drifted into, why, why, why, spend money you don't have to, it's not worshiping money or whatever it's just common sense, would anyone just put money in the bin? Because it's very similar and young folks that are spending it now because they won't get a pension  surely that's more reason not to spend what you don't have to.
I'm sorry but this attitude is just beyond me.

My eldest bro -in-law is/was a carpet fitter/wood flooring /contract installs. He always had that problem.

yes the 98 pound was in Portslade.

Me and the Mrs both work full time, kids have grown up and left home, so we do have a BIT more free cash than we used to have.
We are certainly not rich, and we will have to work WELL past retirement age, but...we have just got into motorhoming and absolutely love it...So, we do spend a bit on sites, fuel, solar panels, gas bottles, but we deserve it, we both work RIDICULOUSLY hard, so finally, after 30 + years...we are enjoying ourselves, for us...Not the kids, or the family, JUST US....
Might well cost us a fortune, and take up all our savings, but......so what, we are loving our new life....

Also, just to add....I have SEVERE COPD, which is a lung disease, so I have difficulty breathing. I'm ok, so far, but I could be dead anytime in the next 20 years, either tomorrow or years away....so flip it, I'm gonna live life......

Good for you. My mum died at the age of 73, much too soon and all the nurses were shocked at how old she was as she looked so young for her age. She was diagnosed with cancer and told she had 2 months. She lived for 7 weeks. I have paid into a pension since I was 25 years old and will get the princely sum of £1400.00 per year when I retire, if I live that long who knows??

Gina, thanks hun,
I LOVE your posts, you really are a star.
Sorry about your mum, but you will be fine, I just know it,
I'm FECKIN SIXTY in two weeks....Shit, that's awful...lolol

Ah yes maybe but how much did you pay in cross channel fares and diesel to get to those aires?
Work it out over the holiday and the UK campsites are not a lot dearer.
We had three weeks in France in June. Including the train over and back, all fuel and sites/Aires (Including Camping Carpark) we spend less in that three weeks than we did in Cornwall two weeks ago. The Cornish holiday was for three units, all the same price. Two tents and our motorhome. The Cornish holiday including everything we spend, down to bottles of water was £2126 for a week. Divide that by three was £708 per week. The French holiday, including the train there and back was £1296. Divided by three to get per week, £432 per week. I think France (Europe) wins hands down! So much so, we are taking them to France for the holiday next year...

Yep that's why you hear people here just now saying the petrol is cheap at 1.67 a litre ...because its down 20 p from 2 months ago but its up 30p from last year

But that's what you do if you have money.

Otherwise no one would buy porches or morelos when a vw polo and a swift kontiki do the same job

My husband thinks I put my money in the bin when I buy a new handbag but I look after those babies like he looks after his drills and all that other shit he buys😂

He didn't count it so who knows 😉

No, joking aside he is THE most trustworthy tradesman and this is one of the reasons he is recommended left right and centre and we have never advertised in 30years of business. Just putting that out there!! 😂

Well i work harder now than ever as my misses was diagnosed with a brain tumor last year with a bad diagnosis so im not worrying about what thangs cost when i dont know how long ive got her with me. If she wants 5star sites she gets them. I work 3weeks and go away 1 week every month now.
