Is almost everyone on here loaded?

As far as money is concerned, I have to agree with Chaser. I got my inheritance recently from my mum and just opened up a bank account and put it in there. I haven't spent a penny of it and don't intend to as there is nothing I want to buy. I am sick of people telling me to invest it, buy premium bonds, put into a pension pot etc. Mum told me days before she died, just make sure the money is always there and quick to get hold of if you need it. Had one family member tell me I was irresponsible and didn't deserve to have the money :giggle:

Been there-got the T shirt!

I'm looking to do a bit of shifting here and there now the rates have gone up a bit and never heard of Raisin. Looked on their site and don't see who the holding company is.
They are German, not sure who owns them but I found them through Martin Lewis money about 2 years ago ...I've had mine with them since. Just switched it again in May to a fixed bond for 2 years. All done online .

Neither do I.

I based my comment on attempting to strike up conversation over many years and finding those in the van conversions and older vans to be the most sociable ....I've been completely blanked by some in expensive vans.

Again this goes back as far as my vw days . I found the ratty old rusty make do van owners to be down to earth and those who had bought top end vans from someone and didn't know the first thing about them to be stuck up and full of themselves. And it seems to be the way with caravans, Motorhomes, bikers, classic cars etc ..

My sister is a bit like that ...we call her hyacinth as she really does have false airs and graces
I've got a daughter like that!

Oh dear, given what you've said about advice - this probably isn't going to be helpful or go down well, but I'll point it out in any case...

Whilst useful to always have some money in cash - if possible - as a 'buffer'; worth noting that if the current level of inflation were to continue, any money held in cash will have halved in value in just 7.2 years.

Nothing to do with the op but seeing as it's come up, we find motorhomers,if not at rally's,very unsociable even with like for like vans, don't know what it is, they will be waving away when on the road but when parked seem to go into a shell, we have been parked up on some places next to other vans, you know they are in but you just never see a sign of them.
We notice it most at places like honfluer where you have got hundreds piled in together, you can walk down the line and most foreigners will speak to you but English just turn the other way even if you speak to them, and it's not because we are in an ambulance as we will be walking past, they don't know what we are in.
Very strange.

I may have related before about the time we were on a French aire in our Spanish registered van. Everyone else was French except for two Brit couples. They walked past us to go to the village and we saw them eyeing up the reg plates. When they came back Martin said "Hi, having a good time, good walk"? Panic crossed their faces and one of the guys said, sorry "we don't speak your language" and they scurried off 😂😂

Im happily paying between £35 and more per night to get away, if youve got a moho use it and dont moan otherwise get rid.
Strange attitude, I certainly wouldn't spend anything like that. I consider anything over a tenner too expensive.
We didn't spend nearly a 100k on a van to line other people's pockets we did so we could spend 120 - 150 nights away a year at minimal cost.

Many people have worked all their life and been sensible with their money and then spend to enjoy their twilight years.

Today's younger generations seem to want everything now and don’t look after or appreciate anything in a throw away society.
Nothing like a sweeping statement.

Maybe the younger generation wanting everything now and go out and get it. Is due to them knowing that come retirement. When ever that maybe be as governments like to keep moving the goal posts. We will either be too old or too worn out maybe both to enjoy anything. Mrs Ju3 is looking at just that a life time of nursing will see to that.

On top of which we simply wont have a state pension worth anything bothering about. Or it may even have gone all together. Have a private pension which if we are lucky will see some return. Or will be worth little as it's was the cheapest option the employer could get away with to met the rules.

Even if we do have a magically "gold plated" public sector pension. We have had most of it messed about with by governments in the name of cost savings. That any hope of a decent lump sum have mostly gone and as for final salary pension now that really is the land of unicorns.

So all we see is todays older generation who have worked for life and got what they deserved for doing it. Saved along the way and now many are left with nothing and even have to pay for a care home. ect, ect.

You can't blame us for seeing little point in holding onto anything or leaving it to retirement and living on what we get given or management to build up. So many of use simple can't leave it for later so may as well spend what we have in the here and now.

If any of you have built up a nice nest egg or a good pension than good luck to you. You've earned it so go and enjoy it. But for many coming down the road the options are not around any more and incomes , economies, eduction and work environments are more complex and costly than ever.

For what's its worth we save what we can and i'm no fool with money my parents showed me how to respect it and spend it wisely.
But we are not waiting for the magic retirement tree to reward us. We've taken the view of enjoying what we have, when we can and living now as long as we have the option to do so. If anything the past few years have shown life is short and it's time to enjoy it. both my parents had work a life time inc in my dad's case a good works pension they had little chance to enjoy it sadly they both had gone by 65. So don't shoot us down for living the way many do , a way that many see as totally opposite to how they did things.

Justus3 - Fight to move those goal posts in the direction that will provide a universal State Pension at a level that can provide a basic but acceptable standard of living in retirement. The UK has a scandalously low state pension as a percentage replacement of average working income, compared with other advanced countries.

Your life expectancy should be at least 85, maybe 100, so you will need it. Don't be so defeatist about this.

Why does everyone assume people want to 'chat' with complete strangers, just because they happen to both have motorhomes?
Obviously pleasantries but otherwise 🤷‍♂️ .
perfect.

I think some folk who get approached by strangers who feel they should strike up a chat, (cos we are mothorhomers/bikers/engineers/whatever) walk away thinking Nosey Know all ****

others just think its "friendly" to do so.

Ill talk to anyone, but dont expect, judge or force it.

Theres been many a time poeple have come up to me "NICE VAN MATE"...or Hiya, i see you are English? then proceed to bore the shit out of me about themselves and their van...., and how one should clean a mhome/empty a waste tank, where theyve been, what they have got, what I should do !!!! blah blah blah...alll about me me meeeeeee.

I should start carrying a rope with me to put myself out of misery sometimes. ::bigsmile: but they would probably tell me its not the right type or up to british standard BS342536.

That's who I'm with . But they never had the 3.15% when I took mine out .
The rates have been gradually going up this year, hopefully they'll continue, one reason why I wouldn't take out a bond for more than a year.

I’ve just had a look they want you to register first and you have to give your bank account details to do so, is it safe to do that, I’ve never heard of them.

They've been going for a while, we and my Mum have had Bonds via them for a number of years and never had any issues at all. There's also Cynergy, Atom, Tandem and Shawbrook that I can think of at present who we've used - when I need to put money in a savings account of some sort I just look at them all and see who's offering the best interest rate.

Believe me I do a hell of a lot of fighting. Working in areas of social justice I'd not last long if I thought it can't be changed.

You couldn't pay for this view. Wilding in Galicia. Taken through the window without even leaving my bed.

We, now we have all our pensions, have more disposable income than we've ever had, but we still draw the line at how much we pay for places to park. We don't want bars, pools, super facilities, we just want an undisturbed night somewhere. We still aren't rich when compared to some people. No £150,000 motorhome on our shopping list. We keep considering changing our 2006 motorhome, but it would be change for the sake of change, because our present motorhome layout suits us.

We feel rich, because we've have time to travel, and hope to continue for some years to come. We will pay for a site if it's suitable for what we want to do. ACSI prices are coming down from next weekend in some parts of Galicia so we might have a few days of "luxury" on one or two of them.
Our lovely old Hymer is 27 years old , has everything we need, owes us nowt and just Purrs along with the odd rattle and squeak . Off to France at the end of school holls Again .
Completley agree with you :)

We are like you describe in your 1st paragraph. We in a near 20 year-old MH, done 57,000 miles. Still happy with it.

I would pay quite a lot of money for more time to travel, because at 80 I feel that there is no way that I can spend half of what I have before I have to give up motorhoming. We can only get away for a few weeks because of Basia's 101 year-old Mother and that seems to be getting less.

We use park4night and have the symbol for service points enabled. There are quite a few at petrol stations. Some free, some a few euros or free if you buy fuel. We also use public motorhome parking areas with facilities and sometimes, like right now, we've booked onto a private area with leccy to give all the batteries a good charge.

Another vote for park4night. We are fortunate in that we have large tanks for black/grey and fresh water so we don't need to fill or dump often and have never had any problems.

Who owns Raisin?

The money isn't held with Raisin anyway - it's held with the bank of the particular product you choose.

I mentioned i had not heard of Raisin in a earlier post🤷‍♂️ We have some Isa's with Shawbrook but again never heard of the others.

Not what a lot on here want to hear but even if it says you have to pay to empty at some of these places if you don't want to wash out your cassette you don't need to pay as the emptying part still works it's just the water doesn't work which makes no difference to us as we only wash it out where the water is free (y) (y) (y) ;)
