Is almost everyone on here loaded?

Unfortunately for the ‘right’ sort of peoples, I guess they’ll just have to make do without us wrong’uns at that price!
Wow that’s £1015 for 1 week there, I’m going online for a look.

I said for a look, not to book. It will be full of those bloody Concorde owners I reckon 🤣

Just lately we have had numerous posts saying £30 upwards to £100 pounds a night is good value to just park a van up for a night, does anyone stop and think state pension is around £20 a day for everything, now I am not pleading poverty but does that sound like good value, it doesn't to me.
Have people today just got too much money , iv worked months for less than £20 , in a different time I know but it just makes me stop and think before shelling out these amounts, in fact I couldn't do it.
Has money just lost all value now?
Iam on holiday so I look what best suits our time away.I try & pick sites with bus stops so we don’t have to drive m/h around. If the site suits us & in area we like I book regardless of the price.

We'll be paying €45 euro a night in October to park in a car park at Euro Disney.

Don't know which hubby is crying about the most, paying that or going to Disney...... or it could be both on equal measure 😂

Wind over tide negotiating the Swinge Channel, north of Alderney.
Or. breaking the reefing line on the huge IOR genoa in a force 6.
Boring it ain't!
You right there whilst I am not a yacht /boat owner I worked in a boatyard and loved looking at the ocean going yachts imaging where they been !

I think this thread has gone off topic........... seems more about BRAGGING RIGHTS :LOL::LOL:

'I'm richer than you' 'I'm poorer than you' 'I have the most expensive van' 'I have the cheapest van' 'I always stay on the best sites' 'I always stay in car parks' .............. etc etc etc ...... you get the point.

Really? who cares? how about just get out and enjoy it as best you can in anyway you can (y)

I don’t mind the odd night or two at £30 or so for a particular location like Edinburgh but will dilute that with some nights at a £15 CL or FLT stops.
Usually can do a 2 week holiday averaging between £10 to £15 a night.
That around our philosophy, we generally set a max of £20pn anywhere but just had 2 night at the CAMC site in Edinburgh £32pn as its a great location to get into Edinburgh if you are going for something specific. Compared to a hotel or a taxi ride back to nearest CL its a no brainer.

The exchange on this comment shows that there are still lots of options out there. I don’t have my van to save money on holiday I have it to be free to roam. I’m neither poor nor rich but I do like an electric hook up. The dog and me are going to Tiverton c&cc for five days over christmas for less than £20 a night (old lady rates). The cost will be less than the fuel it takes me to get there and back. Perhaps it’s less a question of how we value money more a question of how we prioritise our spending. And let’s be honest the cost of the campsite is not the major expense for this pastime. 🥴🥴
That sounds like good value to me. I doubt the site will make any money at all from £20 p.n. with EHU in December. I was on a site at Christmas last year which had metered electricity, the first 10 units were included in the site fee. I used my 10 units very quickly and if I had continued to use electricity for heating I could have ended up paying more for the power than for the pitch. Fortunately I had a good supply of LPG and we stayed warm and cosy.

That's always the way. When I first got in to vw campers I paid £675 for my first one ...then they got popular and yuppies started buying them to look cool ...by the time I stopped buying them split screen vws were fetching £30-40k .

Folk with money always ruin the fun. Camping was once a working man's holiday now many struggle to pay the highly inflated prices. Its often cheaper to go abroad . Outwith school holidays of course

I understood that camping as the working man's holiday (or working family's holiday) was the reason why the post-war French government decreed that municipalities should set up affordable campsites with the result that France provided over 10,000 such municipal sites. Last time I went there, my favourite municipal one was charging 17 Euro per night, taxes EHU and use of nearby swimming pool included. I find it sad that, mainly because of government cuts, many municipal sites are closing and abandoned, or leased to private companies to exploit.

All depends what you define as "rich" or even "loaded". If the metric is cash we don't have much so certainly not rich or loaded. Spent it all on a house and a van!

There's a bloke at work who's only metric in life is how much money he will fill his coffin with, as he does nothing but work and brag about how much he has. I said I felt that I was the wealthiest (richest or loaded) I could ever imagine, I have a modest income but spend it in life experiences e.g. mostly getting out in the van at every opportunity seeing different places, meeting different people blah, blah blah. Life's too short we don't know what's round the corner. I remember an old guy years ago who said "There are no pockets in a shroud lad"

Each to their own lives about choices mine make me happy.

Ah yes maybe but how much did you pay in cross channel fares and diesel to get to those aires?
Work it out over the holiday and the UK campsites are not a lot dearer.
We normally take the tunnel,,approx 260 return but usually do 80 days so it's not that much a day really..BUSBY.

We hardly use the van in the UK, just far too expensive, crowded, awful roads etc etc. 80% of our annual mileage is in ether France, Spain and Portual out of season with an ACSI card, Paying about 18 euros a night with every other night on an aire, you soon claw the ferry costs back and have a great time.

That's strange I usually find it's the folk with older vans and home conversions that are the friendliest. Can count the conversations I've had with newer van owners on one hand .
Trouble is I think a lot of people with older vans think people with new vans are a bit up themselve, obviously some are but most (me included) are Just people who came from council estates and have done well in life.
Im happy to talk to anyone but find that no matter what van they have a lot don’t want to talk back🙁🙁

Many people have worked all their life and been sensible with their money and then spend to enjoy their twilight years.

Today's younger generations seem to want everything now and don’t look after or appreciate anything in a throw away society.

I think that's because we realised from our parents that there's no guarantees. My dad was one who saved for his future and retirement. 3 private pensions etc worked 2 jobs etc . Then died at 60 years old having received none of the benefits . My mum gets widows benefit from each of those pensions which is nothing like my dad would have got and isn't well enough anyway to enjoy it.

I've worked since I left school in manual labour jobs . There's a good chance I'll be knackered by the time I reach retirement age I'm already experiencing joint problems so 5 years ago I decided sod it I'm going to enjoy myself now while I'm fit enough to do it and if I arrive at pension age skint I'll do what all the sods who've lived a life on the dole do and hand my self to the state penniless 😁

I was doing signage for a multi site owner earlier in the year and his take on prices really summed up the modern day trend.
He says that a lot of the newer campers aren't bothered about prices and just pay. It always goes on there debt pile and they worry about it later. He never has complaints about prices from younger people so keeps his prices inflated.
I remembered him saying that when I sent my invoice.

Yep I was a lottery winner and multi millionaire, then the bloody alarm went off and I awoke. Nice dream while it lasted. In reality a inheritance that paid for my van and other things has all but dried up. I live on a company pension and in December the government start to give me money as I will officially be an OAP :party3::party2:

That is the most expensive pitch at the most expensive time of the year though Paul, imagine you want to be away with friends at Christmas time so you book the standard pitch under 8 metres at £69 we will have to pay £72 as we are over 8 metres then one of our rich mates can book an emperor pitch and you get a heated gazebo with a table, fridge/freezer, sink for washing up, big TV etc etc, might be quite nice if you want to spoil yourself for a couple of nights.

I wouldn't make a habit of it but might be nice just the once ;)

I’m off for a Google Martin, first I heard about it was on the Concorde owners forum, a few of those go.
Then it was on one of the episodes of million pound motorhomes last year, I think I remember them saying it is a member of the landed gentry that owns it.

Like you say maybe once after saving up, I’ll put it on the bucket list I’ve always fancied hobnobbing with the landed gentry. I’ll just not tell that Lenny HB he’ll put me on ignore if he finds out😄.

As far as money is concerned, I have to agree with Chaser. I got my inheritance recently from my mum and just opened up a bank account and put it in there. I haven't spent a penny of it and don't intend to as there is nothing I want to buy. I am sick of people telling me to invest it, buy premium bonds, put into a pension pot etc. Mum told me days before she died, just make sure the money is always there and quick to get hold of if you need it. Had one family member tell me I was irresponsible and didn't deserve to have the money :giggle:

There are certain bank accounts that pay interest up to a certain amount, think it's only acouple of thousands or so, but worth looking into, these are normal bank accounts not any sort of investment and what I have seen of them they pay a pretty good rate.

It doesn’t matter how much you’ve got or what van you have, what I can’t understand is that chaser always says he hasn’t much disposable income yet is sat on assets worth a fortune. Just for the sake of some strange tradition about not flogging assets.

All that bleeding land and tractors, I once had a couple of acres mind, someone kicked me in the knackers😄.

I know it's just sitting there doing nothing. When things settle down a bit I will look into changing banks at the very least.

Where are they cause I can't find them . I've stuck my rainy day fund in a high interest ( apparently) account but I had to put it away for 2 years to get a decent rate .
