Ian and helga go south !!

The orbitur campsite in Quarteira you mean. That's the closest I think.

Where's alvor Kim?? X
Alvor is in the Algarve near Portimao. I can give you the co-ords from the Aires book if you need them? We love it there and are planning to stay till after Easter.

ALVOR is lovely but further from camperserve I think.

I will go to camperserve first , and then decide where to go depending on what the outcome is from the work I need doing! Thanks all. Xxx.

There are a few places to stay, but Alvor, although a good place to stay is a long way from Camperserv. These suggestions, you can stay at Pedros, look up Motorhome Friends, he is also on Motorhome Fun, they are at Paderne. Also an aire at Quarteira which is on the market place, but the one we think is best for you is at Mikkis Place, it's 20odd minutes west along the N125 at Alcanterilha, from Camperserv co-ords are N37 degrees 07'40" W 8 degrees 19'22" or N37.127819 W8.323050. They have wifi, plus bar/restaurant on site. Have heard they have a Motorhome fitter on site. You don't have go far off the N125 for this one, it's down a long rough track, but take it easy. You have to go past Algarve shopping (big shopping centre) to get there, there you will find, a big Continente supermarket, plus an Aldi, plus Leroy Merlin for all your hardware needs, and last but by no means least your beloved Iceland is there too. Mikkis place costs under a tenner (€) per night with electric for the first night and cheaper for longer stays, look up www.Mikki-Place-to-stay.com. If you want a sim for wifi, you will find in the Algarve shopping centre a NOS shop that sells 10 day sims for €10 for 15mb

Hope this helps, hope you enjoy Portugal as much as we do.

Ian do not bother with this site, the Internet is hit and miss more miss than hit, the motorhome fitter on site is a German guy who does RV's and not very reliable, the bar is ok but the restaurant is again hit and miss. It could be such a nice site but greed has ruled their heads and ruined it in a short space of time. We were booked on for a month over Xmas and new year but left a week early because of site problems with sewage etc. There is a thread going in the Portugal country's about it. A real shame. This is of course my opinion having been there so I know. If they get all the problems sorted it will be good. There are other sites in the area. Good luck .

NOS Livre card is currently €10 for 10 days unlimited internet, buy two or more if you are staying longer than 10 days, still works out cheaper.

Sorry MikeyRv that you were not happy with this, but since you left we have heard glowing reports by not only one customer but a few and we were told that there was no smells as this was a concern of ours. We went to the site to have a look, but we preferred Camperstop Messines, as it was in the countryside, but this would not be suitable for Ian. Mikkis place would be good for him whilst getting the work done at Camperserv. He has a bike so can visit restaurants nearby. We also heard of a restaurant at Pera that does a Prata de Dia for 6euros and the food was excellent worth looking for, only a bike ride away.

Takes your choice Ian, if no good you have wheels, so easy to move, but a place to stay there whilst getting work done.

Got booked into site, lovely old girl on reception, talked me into joining some card scheme for 11 euros, lol. Bloody shrewd she was!! Booked in just for one night and got helga. Semi sorted!!
We are on a bit of a slope and when I get out of bed in the morning I reckon I'm gonna be running down the other end!! Not by choice!! Lol.

Was talking to a guy and the old girl in reception and they were telling me that most people are struggling here, to make a living I mean ( maybe similar to Spain) And the guy said that the average wage on that site was 500 euros a month. A month! I couldnt believe it! Still there all lovely and a lot more people here speak English !! Chat soon. Xxxxx

Ok good morning..

Had a nice walk round the town yesterday , and to be honest it could have been a town in Spain! Lol but more shops open !!

The coffee that I've had here is really quite nice, so far, it doesn't seem as strong as in Spain, but like I said yesterday, that could be the milk!!

I think the language here is a nightmare to learn, so after I had been told two different words for coffee with milk I gave up !!!! A bag is sacko! Quite easy, and bolsa, like Spain ! Anyway the sounds are so different! In Spain I could sometimes get the jist of a conversation but I got no chance here!
It's all zzhh and looou. Really hard!!

I am impressed with the Portuguese though, I havnt spoken to anyone who doesn't speak English yet!!

I had a nice early night last night and feel good now, and as I went to kip at 9,30 I realised this morning why I woke up at 4.30. It's on English time here so I went to kip at 8,30. Lol. What a rock and roll lifestyle I got!!

So this morning I'm going to drive to camperserve to have a word about gas service and canopy!! Hope they can help!!! Put co ords in sat nav and it's not far at all,, apparently!!

So I will ask the question before I see for myself ,,,, what is different about Portugal from Spain ? Is there a definite change here or what??? ( apart from the coffee). Oh yes and the roads, there shocking here!!!

Will chat later and let you know what's going on !! Xxx.

Well that's a first !! I went for a shower and a no 1. Well I was nearly I'm the throes of ecstasy when I noticed there was no paper!! Well that was it, jogging bottoms up and off like linford Christie to helga for paper!! Let me tell you I only just made it with milliseconds to go!!! Such relief!!!!

Shower was lovely and hit, bloody dodgy taps again though, why do they put em right where your standing and washing, if you touch it one way your freezing cold in seconds or if you knock it the other way your phoning the hospital for an ambulance and a specialist in 3rd degree burns!!!!
All they have to do is bend the pipes to the left or right!!!! It's not bloody rocket science!!

Right I'm off to camperserve!! After I've been for the skin graft on my back !!!! Xxxx

Lot's of differences, lots more Portuguese speak English even off the beaten track you can usually find someone that speaks a little English.

Meal times are more 'normal' ie like UK.

More relaxed atmosphere.

Regarding coffee, if you ask for a coffee with milk, café com leite, you will more often than not be given a disgusting milky thing called a 'Galao' which they assume most English people like.

If you like strong coffee with a little milk I ask for an Abatanado com leite separado which is an Americano with a small jug of hot milk, most places know what an Americano is anyway. This invariably produces a decent reasonably sized cup of nice strong coffee.

Café meia leite (my lite) is similar to café con leche but I have found in the past that these can be very variable in strength.

Bica is an espresso and pingado is a bica with a little milk(Spanish cortado) in most places.

When 'o' is at the end of a word it mostly seems to be pronounced like 'oo' so abatanado is pronounced abatanadoo but I am still misunderstood on a regular basis:)

Most Pastalerias and coffee shops sell delicous little custard tarts called a nata and one of these with a coffee mid morning is one of the delights of Portugal and very affordable. I know of an establishment in Vila Real do Santo Antonio where I can get 2 Abatando's and 2 Nata's for €2.20 but more normally would be €3.40 to €4 except in the more popular touristy areas.

The food in cheaper cafe's can be a little challenging in the sense of adventurous if you stray away from the grilled meat and fish on most menu's.

The roads, as you say, in general not good, the N125 is in terrible condition in places.

Hope you enjoy your stay in Portugal, we love it:)

So I'm ok though, gas all working lovely, now fridge is all good and I guess I can live without a canopy?

Now I'm going to look for somewhere else to stay for a bit, I would like a site, and I would like decent wifi any ideas??? Hurry up I'm in camperserve car park!! Lol. And homeless!! Xxxx.
