Ian and helga go south !!

Morning Ian, I would say you won't even know you have crossed the border to Portugal but actually you will because the roads are so bad, warn Helga.

If you are keeping off the motorway you will use the N125, come off A22/E1 at J17 and if you need gas still there is one on the N125 at Aldeia Nova take left instead of right when the R125 meets the N125.

Martin

Cheers Martin!! Again. Lol.

Yes, I agree, so you may want to use the toll roads. If so , check this link out.

the roads in Portugal are better than some in the UK, unless they have deteriorated significantly since October have a great time.

Cheers Martin!! Again. Lol.
Are you sure you are in the place that everyone was on about , as they were raving over it , not what you found at all, anyway when you hit Portugal take a left for villa real, first place over and very nice, and if you follow the coast places you will find numerous places to park up.

Hi all, I have just pulled up on an aire just in Portugal in an area called manta rota! It's full of bloody foreigners! Lol. What damage am I going to do here I wonder? Or who's dog will I kill??

Well I'm only here for one night so I am going to have a walk round now, and try to learn some Portuguese!! obrigado !

There is a massive difference in the roads!! I need new suspension already!!!!

Just having my first coffee, bloody lovely, not as strong as Spanish I don't think , but it could just be the milk!! Lol

The language is hard!! Obrigado, Bon dia, sacko, gellou? Or something similar?? But I'm impressed already, they all seem to speak english( takes the pressure off) !!!

Lovely sunny day!! Lovely coffee, lovely people,, what could go wrong??? Lol xx

"What could go wrong"? OooOh er hold that thought!

God Ian, you are rushing again, slow down, everywhere along that coast is worth a look, seems you have already missed villa real.

@chaser
If you're referring to El Rocio it is definitely worth a visit. Unique. But Ian's description was spot on.

I wasn't sure it was going to provide him with the party atmosphere he was craving but we weren't there at night. For all I knew all the bars sprung to life at 10pm!

Yeah I have found out now, we have been there, and got the same impression as Ian but when everyone was on about how good it was I thought there must be two of them:), anyway glad we didn't miss anything, we like the places between there and Portugal, Isla Christina, is one I remember.

Chaser I am going to chill in Portugal for maybe two weeks, then I will be going back along Spanish coast visiting all the places I have missed while getting here! But I have just found a mh service centre in algarve called camperserve! Does anyone know anything about them , I still need a gas service!! Xx.

The problem with El Rocio is that not many people actually live there and this time of year there is not much happening during the week.

Opinions of the town will vary with what you are looking for, when we have been there the place is busy at weekends during the day, don't know about the evenings........very rarely venture out after dark:)

Seville or Cadiz it very definitely is not.

It will be hard to see without a magnifying glass but in this shot of El Rocio there are hundreds of cars parked, and the restaurants are heaving. There was some sort of religious thing going on but on another day it would be deserted.

Camperserve is English owned so there should be no language problems. Not sure about gas service but I would think that they will do them. They visit sites on the Algarve fairy regularly.

BTW after your disappointment at El Rocio don't expect too much in the way of Spanish style nightlife outside of the main holiday destinations, Vilamoura, Albufeira etc.

Ok ,, I have found this campsite in the Aires book in algarve called ..orbitur, pt.camping-orbiture-quarter !!! Does anyone know anything about the site,, I am asking because the company. Camper serve looks like it is in the same area??? Cheers !! Xx

A few pics of El Rocio on a Sunday

Start of procession from one of the Hermanidades, almost every large town in Spain has a Hermanidade here and get to parade there stuff on allocated Sundays as well as the main event at Pentecost.

If you use Orbitur campsites be sure to ask for their loyalty card offering cheaper campsite, rates throughout portugal, the card costs €10 but is well worth it as the sites are then 50% cheaper .

Hi all, lovely sunny afternoon here, bit breezy though!!

Question, do the sites here and some Aires like Spain have good internet? Cause the one I'm on is crappy at best!!

Is there an Iceland in Portugal??

I pulled into a small repsol garage today on the way here to get auto gas, and guess what?? My fitting worked brilliantly, and gas is now full !! Only 80% though , incase you were wondering, so I'm a happy boy!!! Xx

Iceland is at Guia, Algarve Shopping Centre on the N125 and they sell frozen Holland's pies cheaper than they are in England but that won't mean a thing to you being a southerner:)
