Ian and helga go south !!

image.jpg Ok let me tell you what's going on !!!

Drove to service centre, can't do a gas service, not interested ( unless I buy a Motorhome) lol. Can't or won't do canopy/ awning. Not interested!!
Went into shop though and bought new Hymer water pump, 55 euros, and when I came back to this aire an electrician called Richard, who just pulled up. Got all his kit out wired my new pump in , brilliant all working lovely!! Then what he did was wire an old 12 v socket helga has ( with dodgy pins, pic to follow) so it takes a lighter socket, so now my inverter works off the socket allowing me power when on 12v only to charge my phone, tablet, even a small tv he says!! He's bloody brilliant !!!! Have you ever seen a socket like that before???

Yep - normal caravan & MH 12v socket going out of fashion now. It was / is a whole lot better than cigar lighter sockets. But then almost anything is.:)

Loads on eBay - including this one:

So from now on, I will think before I post and not be so quick to open my mouth !!!

We all have the occasional shitty day Ian, though you seem to have more than most and when I suggested you abbreviate your French it was purely because I KNOW how many including me get great enjoyment from your posts, I'd hate to think you lost any of your followers just because you had a bad day and used more French than usual.

As for me you can cuss all you like as you will doubtless notice when we meet and meet we shall, somewhere in a field or car-park soon......... Griff

ps Stroke of luck the sparky turning up like that!......keep yer pecker up mate.

Ok good morning, well I'm not sure it is yet!!

I woke about an hour ago and went to make a brew,, same old drama reared its ugly head again,, no water from taps for two mins, then much spluttering and finally water !!

Now I can hear the new pump working ( it's quite loud) and after a min alls good but no water staying in taps etc !!

What is the next thing I should check for?? I can see no water under van! And no visible or feelable leaks inside?? Can anyone suggest what's next??? Hope all are ok !! Lol

Have you got the correct pump?
Are you sure it was pump and not micro switch?

Good Morning Ian , hope you get sorted soon , sounds like it's time for a brew. :)

The pump should have a one-way valve on its outlet - stops the water in the pipes draining back. It looks like the plastic thing on the outlet of this pump:

Good morning Ian,

Maybe the new pump didn't include the non return valve. :(

Jock. :)

Edit.......Just seen Tony's post a minute before mine.

image.jpeg Waking up to this at puerto gelves isn't a bad way to start the day!! So today I am going to do a load of washing! Then try and suss out the water drama! ( again) And have a bit of a tidy up. And tomorrow I am going to move to one of the Aires in Seville city centre ( or near) so I can see the town without too much Hastle!

If anyone has stayed on those city Aires any comments would be gratefully accepted !!! X. Ian.

Hi tony yes pump is brand new, all bits fully accounted for and working !! Are you saying that it could be a prob with new pump?? X

Ok what I am going to try is putting an inline non return valve in the pipe, I don't believe I have a leak, it simply is draining back into the tank,, there is a few bits of pipework going into the tank lid, where the pump is connected, so I will investigate further!! X

Have you used the same none return valve that was on your old one, perhaps that was knackered

Hi Ian
Interesting reading about your adventures.
Re non return issue, had the same problem last year and a valve was replaced by ESSANJAY in Poole on our Hymer.

Chaser. I don't understand what you mean? I put brand new pump on and that's all? I assume the old was wasn't broken now cause new pump, same problem! I am thinking that there may be a non return valve already on system somewhere that is knackered? Or is that not possible ?

2 pumps, same problem. So I am discounting pumps from fault!! Could it be somewhere else? Non return valve if working should not let system drain back, should it??

I believe they replaced the valve, it was on a warranty repair.

They are really quick & efficient there. Contact number 01202 683608.

I think Tony and Jock are suggesting that the non return valve is part of the overall pump assembly but separate ie. You now have a new pump but the old non return valve on it

Ok I will have a look later. Cheers,, X

Right I am on the bus going into Seville, just want to get out for a while!! Ist problem. The bus is full and I'm sitting next to a gentleman who smells very ripe!!! I'm trying to breath through my moth but I'm worried about infection!! Lol.

So before I got on bus I had a shower, and before I had a shower I reversed helga onto waste dump point and proceeded to empty the old girl !!

As I was emptying cassette I looked up as I was urging ( I do that) only to see a Frenchman drive straight into my spot !! Well all my washing was there, all my electric lead was there, my chair was set up there !! It meant nothing!!

I walked over when I finished urging ( I do that) and had a quiet word , and he moved, but only when he was told of the error of his ways!! Lol. What is it with the French,, At this rate, what with the dog and the pitch nicking. When I get to France their gonna lynch me!!! Lol

Anyway I'm hoping of a good day in the city, bit of food, drink, good look round etc and hopefully find a valve for helga,, Chat later. Ian. Xxxx

not all replacement pumps include a non return valve, in fact most dont. fitting an extra non return straight after the pump will work

these pumps only have a finite life and you can normally guarantee it will fail at a very inconvenient time. i recommend you also pick up a spare pump

My original pump works fine bigun! So I have kept that as a spare,, but I am struggling to find a non.return valve that isn't a half inch brass one, and all the bloody stuff I would need with it!! Lol.

My wife was driving one day when a dog shot out of nowhere and she ran over it. to follow it so jumped in the car and shot off.

A dog hit me when I was learning to drive. Yes, it did hit me as I had stopped due to the dog fight in the middle of the road! It really shook me up as there was an almighty "whump" as the dog ran into the car. All the dogs except the one that had hit the car ran off and my Dad and I went to check for injury / damage. The dog got up a bit stunned and shaken..... peed on the tyre and wandered off. I refused to drive home much to Dad's annoyance. :)

@ianthebuilder , if we knew where you would be in a week or two we would post you your preferred band of teabags!!!!

all the non return valve is, a piece of plastic pipe about two or three inches long with a bulge in it on top of the pump, now you can get the same pump without this extra piece of pipe, so if you have one its there.

Hello,, Problem finally solved!!!!!!

Nothing to do with pump!!
Nothing to do with non return valve!!

Decided to take it apart to have another look and I saw, for the first time , water leaking back from a fitting just before the water tank lid! So it was a broken plastic fitting that goes they the lid and it was opening up more and more every time pump moved or I pushed and pulled!! Unscrewed it, put length of hose with jubilee clip on and immediately sorted!! So I have now the best water pressure coming out of taps I have ever had, !!!! I was lucky the fitting was broken the water tank side of the lid so all water stayed in tank!! Bonus !!!!!!

Just been reccommended a good mechanic to the south of Seville so I'm going there tomorrow, so helga can have a treat as well !! Xxx.

Good bit of DIY with all your funster help!! Enjoy a celebration drink!! Helga will be pleased getting glammed up!!:)
