Ian and helga go south !!

I have just been told. I'm not in Jerez! I am in the port of Santa Maria !! Lol. If this is anything to go by, what is Jerez gonna be like !! Oh I have just met a group from Madrid. And the invites are coming thick and fast!!! Lol. Buyer beware!!! Lol. Xx.
 
How do you meet up with people everywhere you go, if it was me on my own I would be steering well clear of anyone I didn't know a bit about.
Admire you for it , but I probably wouldn't have spoke to anyone yet in your circumstances (y)

It's not hard chaser. I don't care who I talk to , ( as you have heard) and if your having a laugh and don't mind making a nob of yourself it's easy. Let me tell you the secret ,,,, make em laugh !! It's easy really !! Lol

Have a look around while you are there. 3rd largest bull ring in Spain. Castles nice & old &in in centre of town, the place is part of the 'sherry' triangle along with Jerez & Sanlúcar. Oh yea , 6 the bull ring isn't round but a 60 sided polygon. More useless info for you.:D

That's another. Thing that's different out here. There's lots of women in their own that just walk into bars order a drink an just sit down ! Now the birds I know would never walk into a pub alone and get on with it. !! It's much more mannered here lads I think. !! The women don't feel under pressure at all. No sweaty drunks all over them ( except for me obviously) lol.

You won't regret it! This is http://www.gutierrezcolosia.com not one of the well known ones but very good. It's about one Street back from the river from memory. Take a plastic container and they will fill it with fino for a few euros. After that experience you won't want to leave Spain. :)

Just to say. Burndt doesn't walk round shouting about his money! Lol. To look at him you wouldn't think he had 2 bob to his name! Lol. In fact the first time we spoke I thought he was trying to beg a fag!!! Lmao.
 
It's a lovely morning here today!!!
By the river, suns shining, tides going out, looks lovely...

So when I'm sorted I will have a proper walk round this place today, get some coffee and food later. I had an assortment of fish on a big plate last night, it was lovely,,

I still struggle with these hours the Spanish live by, I mean when I was wobbling home last night I was going past restaurants where they were having dinner about 10.30....

Andalusia is a lovely part of Spain though, they have it all!! Great weather all year, good value food and drink,always smiling !!!!

So today I'm in a charitable mood, I don't have much but more than enough for me,, so while I have been travelling I have been saving all my change and I have just put it into 2 envelopes, so I am going to give it away today,

There are a good few people on the streets here and Spain in general I have seen on my travels, and if some change gets someone through the day well then that's all good!!

And before you shout about con men and professional begging,all I have is my eyes and I will do my best to give to the right people!! To be honest were not talking hundreds of pounds here. Just a few quid in change I will never use!!

So I'm going to get sorted and then head off! I will keep you updated and post later, have a good morning, xxx. Ian.
 
You are a good man Ian, are you still at Zahora? One of my favourite camping sites. We are off to Portugal via there end of April and probably stay at Camping Albufiera for a while nice friendly site with stacks of room to pitch up and it's close to town. Like you love Andalucia, take care

Hello Bob!! No mate I'm now in Jerez and I have just finished a meal of prawns in Garlick and a mixed salad. Topped of with a nice bottle of aged and matured. Coca Cola!!! Lol. It was bloody lovely. And I have just realised that this is what Spain is all about!! Taking time to enjoy whatever is in front of you!!! All the best. Ian xx
 
image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg From one extreme to another,, bull ring in Jerez and I popped into the church on my way back, the service was in full swing and being as I didn't burst into flames when I walked in I had a few quit moments, took some pics ( to follow) and not being a religious bloke I found it quiet moving , so I gave thanks for what I had !! I didn't have an epiphany or a miracle occur but it still felt OK!! Beautifull church! Solid silver and gold everywhere!!

Seville is a pretty classy city with 2 great aires. I am sure someone of your esteemed stature would fit in perfectly.
We have moved on to Olvera. A most interesting town. We will continue to look out for Helga.

Good evening,,

I have just had a lovely cuppa after a good walk( just to get the dinner off) lol

I am now debating wether to go out tonight for a beer and a bit more grub??

I am still in Jerez and the walk round I had today was very interesting,, church, bullring, castle. I even had a walk in the Bronx where the real people live!

Met an interesting bloke called George, he spoke good English and it turned out he is from Portugal!! He sleeps under the stairs behind an old brown blanket in a small block of flats, and I noticed him cause he had all his washing out on the street, drying it after hand washing it all in an old bowl!!

Anyway after chatting for a bit he told me he'd been in Spain for twenty odd years and left Portugal due to some political falling outs he had!

He told me during our chat that he had got off a bad drug habit which I believed ( I have no reason not too) and to be honest he didn't look too bad considering his circumstances! I had a good chat with him for about an hour and he came across as being very intelligent! Spoke 3 languages and obviously had an education very early in his life!! I was amazed really, I mean I speak to a few people and not many educated Spanish speak to me in English, and there's this homeless bloke who chats away like an old friend!! Lol.

Anyway after many fags and an introduction to a female friend of his ( who asked me if I wanted a woman) I politely declined ( FYI 30 euros for anything you want) we all chatted away, she has 2 kids, lives with mum and dad, no husband, and has been ( for the want of a better word) escorting for about 3 years.

It seems like to me the social system in Spain is nowhere as comprehensive as ours, or half as generous!!!!! Still during our chat( which took place outside George's set of steps) she told me ( her name was maribelle by the way) that she used to be a seamstress, clothes, handbags, all sorts but lost her job during the recession ( like so many others) and her son, Juan, who is 20. Hasn't had a job yet and although doing ok at school can't get employment!!

On my travels I have fallen in love with Spain and its people but I do believe even with this weather being lovely all the time, if your skint and on the bones of your arse here you really have nothing!!! I mean 4 or 5 years ago, a perfectly respectable mother of 2 who was working with a small flat and managing to bring up children has now had to take to the streets for money!! And she had no drug problem or alcohol drama, to maribelle it's purely a way of feeding her kids !!! Shame!!

I often moaned about the uk, benefits, dos sees, drugs etc. But it does look after some of the people rather well compared to Spain, I think anyway !!

I wonder if when I went to church today if I was given a slight push towards George and maribelle just to let me know how lucky or blessed I am !!! Funny how life works isn't it!!

So I did have a lovely chat with them and George is probably knackered from translating too !! Lol. And it was nice that they had no problems talking to me!!

And I think I will venture out tonight, but a bit later, just like a true spaniard!!! Chat soon. Ian. Xxxx.

On our travels I have noticed many times, it is, for want of a better description always the lower class people who speak the most languages, bar men , looky looky men, market salesmen , and the like because , I suppose they have had to do to get a living, always amazes me at the market in ventamiglia , and I watch them for ages the old women and young on the stalls can move from Italian, French, English , German, at the drop of a hat.
But go into post offices or any official office and hardly anyone can speak any English.

Amazing isn't it chaser!! I bloody struggle with English!! Lol. By the way .... What do you chase Chaser? cause I'm sure maribelle wouldn't run too fast!! Lmao. ( sorry Mrs chaser) lol. Xx
