Ian and helga go south !!

Ok so let's move on to cost !! Used or new?
If you are looking to replace your Omnistor canopy with a new one Ian, you are looking at the best part of €1300 - €1500, (pending length) for a manual one, as quoted to me by the MD of Thule/Omnistor at Menen.
One might come up second hand on the FUN classifieds, etc, but that could be a long wait. :(

Good luck with the decisions. (y)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Crumbs... didn't realise how expensive they are!!!! Mine was caught in the 'mini tornado' at Wrenbury that gave no warning, and despite three heavy guys holding onto it for dear life it was lifted up and torn by the wind .. :( Thankfully, thanks to the said funsters the damage was repaired with tape.... looks like it would have been an expensive lesson for me. :(.

As a rough idea of s/h price, there is a 5m Omnistor canopy on uk ebay for £350, not sure what length yours was.

Yes Joy, hence our decision to have it repaired. (y)
We were very lucky, as the MD only charged us for the new replacement material, which on ours, is of "sailing ship" proportions.
I was caught unaware by a freak storm, even though it was was strapped down. As usual, I should have listened to SWMBO. :( I think she felt the storm approaching in her waters.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Save yer dosh - spend it on beer - and get one of these. Cheap, light, portable, and do the job!

To be honest we have a wind out Fiamia , but for me on site the Quest is very tempting, at the shows last year they all sold out and there was a waiting list for them, they are so easy to put up and no worry about sides we are seriously thinking about one. Also keep any insects out without been closed in.

@gus-lopez, I can't argue with those advertised prices Gus, however, they are a long way off the quote from the Thule MD, to replace our Omnistor 5500.

We paid over €400 just for the material alone. It's fortunate for us, they were generous with other parts that needed replacing, as well as with their labour.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

The pop up one cost less than £200, sides were about £60 extra, (£20 pair)
That was for the 6 side one, there is a smaller 4 side version which will be cheaper.

Hi, we bought a Fiama 45 canopy at last Octobers Motorhome show it was 4.5m long and cost £650 with free fitting we also bought the privacy room and used it over Xmas in Dolgellau, with the storm straps it stood up to the heavy winds we had. It does give us quite a large usable area and the privacy room was not that bad to put up considering it was the first time we put it up. We prefer to cook outside as our food does tend to be smelly I.e. Curries, fish, shell fish etc. And this does keep the smells outside. The beauty of the privacy room is that you can put as much or as little as you want up.

we use a khyam motordome driveaway awning when rallying or on a site for a week. or the fiamma canopy with lilypad leisure lightweight sides for a couple of days. the sides take up very little room or payload to store. fitting takes a couple of minutes

Ian solo in a decent sized van why would he want the bother of a full awning..Surely all he wants is a bit of shade.

Ian your 3 days are up..time to move on:D

I'm just waiting for that bloody letter to be delivered to Denia judge. I could however go back to javea for a few days!! I think I will see the week out here and then javea. Yes. That's a good idea, hopefully letter will be there then ??

Bear in mind the mounting fixed to van is specific to awning ,check what ever you buy is suitable/ includes full mounting kit.
Sure u will have enough tools. Did u take your full workshop.

You already have the mounting plate in situ Ian.
It might be a good idea to find something that fits that existing mounting plate, rather than removing it, and having to have even more fixing points drilled into the exterior of your already "leak free" MH, just to accommodate another wind out canopy. Don't be led into thinking that you need a complete new system, when a refurbished, or part new, or second hand system will suffice, and if either of the latter three options apply, then yes, you probably could attach it to the base plate yourself, but with help obviously due to the weight.

Good luck. (y)

It might be that that model is far dearer ,newer ?

4.metres!!! I have just been quoted 761 euros for a fiamma ( new) probably has iva to add and fitting ( but looking at how it came off I could prob fit myself). Gus.
That's a bit steep. Probably because they think you 've all got money up on the sites.
A Thule 4m ,here,

Broken Link Removed

is 30€ dearer at 529 but they are at Fortuna on Alicante side of Murcia & you'd be coming past .
there are other types on there if you have a look. You can change to English ,top right & I think 'chat online' comes up with one of the girls normally . Might be able to get an awning & pull ?
