Ian and helga go south !!

Looks good Mike but I don't want any air erect awnings. I'm an old fashioned sort of bloke and I like poles and pegs. Oh and straps!! Cheers anyway. I have been told that most sites round Benidorm have notice boards up with used stuff for sale. I'm going to have a look on those first!!
 
be careful with buying awnings in Spain. many have been used on seasonal pitches and are badly sun damaged. the poles may be fine, but the fabric is likely to be on the verge of disintegrating

Will the problems be easily visible bigun???
 
the faded colours will be obvious when you assemble it to take a look. what you then need to do is check how thin the material has worn and often the stitching fails first. at the tail end of the winter and summer seasons many awnings end up in the rubbish skips on site
 
Ok. I've had a good day today! Suns been shining and just got site TVs working which is a bonus!! So anyway last night I met up with some funsters for a night out but on my way this happened!!! I was having a bottle of beer in a bar called the outback when my phone rang,, is that Ian. They said,, yes I said it is , well my name is ,,,,,, she said I just got your number from mh fun site and I needed some advice!!! Well I nearly choked on my beer, I coughed so hard beer came out my nose! Advice from me I thought, this is gonna be good!!!! I am a solo camper never having driven abroad before and am getting the ferry to Santander in a week or so! Is there somewhere I can sleep at Portsmouth,? do I need a cabin that is dog friendly? Is there somewhere to pull over at Santander? Can I set my sat nav before I start driving? Can I work out where I'm going to stay before I leave port? What book do I get? I'm really nervous about driving! Can you tell ? Lolol. Right I thought that was me 6 weeks ago and someone has seen my number and needs help!! Well IM YOUR MAN !!! So I answered all questions to the best of my ability ending with those immortal words. Post on forum and you will get all the help you need!! I was chuffed to be asked to be honest and I hopefully bluffed my way through!! I don't know if I will be asked for anymore help from her but I'm sure she will post on here and get all reqd info !!!! My good deed for the day done!!! Lolol. Now I moved onto idols bar to meet all the funsters and others, so as I walked in tonka introduced himself, edd was at the bar met a few others and everyone was welcoming and happy, now this is what I did, I had a quick look round and thought. Right I'm going to buy a drink for all as a hello and Thankyou for the invite!! Well after much ordering and laughing I got the bill. 38 euros yes you heard correctly. 38 euros for roughly 15 drinks. I couldn't believe it bargain. Anyway night was in full swing, good singers in this group as well with a variety of song styles and choices. I was propping up the bar still and talking most of the evening with edd and we were getting there!! So now I will not mention any names but this is what happened,,, somebody tapped me on the shoulder and introduced themselves( funster) in front of edd they proceeded to say this " I didn't have a drink from you when you did that and I will tell you why ,, I don't know you and you could be a c,,,t !!!! ". With that I turned away and he went ,,, I turned to edd and said some people can't just take somethings as there meant! A simple offer of a drink must have upset him beyond belief!! Now I am all for personal opinion and I maybe able to understand his side but did it warrant such a reaction ? Anyway I didn't do it to impress, or be flash, I didn't even speak to half of them, no idea who they even were but they were in the company so I did what I did! To be honest it pissed me off a bit but such is life!!!! The night continued and a good time was had by all , shame though it will prob be the most remembered bit of the night for me!!! But me and edd had a laugh and staggered home together !!!! Till later all,,,,,,,,,
 
Haha your lady friend must have seen your phone number you posted ages ago! She has been on an introduced herself and asked questions ! It sounds fun in the bar and glad it ended in a good night shame about the bloke kicking off but perhaps he wasn't really a funster?!
 
There is no excuse for rudeness, shows who is the ## rude one was and it wasn't you, perhaps one of the few who have not followed your thread. No excuse hope they read the comments. One thing let him buy his own drinks in future.

What a rude person. I might not have accepted the drink (depending on circumstances etc etc) but no way would i have been rude.

Hope that we do manage to meet up at some point.

Hello park, I'm still waiting for a letter to be delivered to los pinos in Denia so we could catch up I think, I still want to stay and see javea for a bit and will do so when I get the call about letter!! Christ knows when that's gonna be though?? I don't want to go much further than Benidorm cause it's only an hour and a half away!! Good excuse to stay here though!! Lol.

Wouldn't fit an A Class as max hight of awning rail is 2.5m.

Never seen the point of an awning on a motorhome, as aaaaaa fixed one makes it ju

@ianthebuilder we're in Javea now at El Naranjal site, reserved by email on morning of arrival, it's OK and more or less full. Camping Javea was full.

But we've seen a large number of motorhomes parked up in Avinguda de Paris, close to front, if you don't need facilities. Might be worth driving round to take a look. Possible that details are on Park4night, we haven't checked.
 
We have a quest elite spring up screen house for when we are travelling about, super easy to put up in 10 minutes. Can be fastened up so can also drive away from it, very useful. There is a vid on you tube but I don't know how to post that.

There are some adverts for awnings on the notice board at El raco. Opposite el raco is a camping shop selling them , you can get your acsi book in english there too.
 
That looks brilliant!! I'm impressed! It may be a bit too big for my needs though? Still it's the best one to put up I've seen so far!! Is there no one who is going to tell me that another canopy is the way to go??? Where's the competition gone?? Lol

Hi Ian,for me a canopy is the way to go.I have one and find it good to sit and eat and drink under.I don't want to get to a site and put up awnings and then there is the storage ,if you have enough room or are parking up for a long stay ,why bother.

That's better lads !! My mind can easily be swayed at this point !! I have to admit I can be a bit lazy and winding out a canopy instead of struggling with an awning is easier ! Plus I don't have to carry it inside etc! So I'm 50/50 at the moment. Who has the deciding final argument???? Cost etc has to be a factor!!

I like my canopy too, keeps the sun off abroad and the rain off in the UK :roflmto:

As you may have guessed from my username I have dogs so shade is important and they don't like getting their hair wet!

Do you know you can get sides and a front for a canopy if you want an extra room? Not cheap, and a lot of faffing to put up and get down if you want to move on or pop to the shops/beach.
 
To be honest all when I get set up I don't tend to use helga for going out etc. I like walking and using the bike so a drive away set up doesn't really enter into it!! And sides on a canopy might be ok ,

Yep, me too. That's why we went to the (very reasonable) expense of having it repaired at the factory in Menen. Most of our 17 year old canopy is brand new again. :LOL:

We use our canopy on sites and try to park so the fridge is on the shady side or under the canopy. Also neither a canopy or adrive away can be used on an Aire.!:sun: Talking about France ! No need here at the moment! To windy for either!!
