Ian and helga go south !!

Ian , I asked you to bring some sunshine back with you yesterday.
Today's the worse day we've had in Yorkshire for months !:Eeek:
Snow , sleet, hail, khaki dark skies. Grotty.
It better clear up by the time Ralph and I go to Flamborough at the weekend ! I fear I may have tempted fate , asking you to " bring me sunshine" :cooler:

I'm sorry babe,, but if it's any consolation , it's been raining and cold in me for the last 2 days,,, something tells me I'm coming back a month too early!!! Should have listened to that bloody judge agai when he said,, Spain is lovely in May!!!! Lol

Hello bonny lad.
Yes Ian I am in a England mate. Thanks for rubbing it in !!!!
I WOULD have been in Espaniola but for the "Brain Fart" as you know, but the application to get my licence back, went in the post this morning, recorded devilry (yes I meant that)

PS.. There will be a place to overnight with us on your way to the Fet thud rally if you so desire.. Safe parking by the cottage, electric plug in, all indoor facilities at your disposal with food, should you require.. We are out in the countryside surrounded by fields, so it may be tooooo quiet for getting to use "The coat" !!!
Take care mate.
Mitch & Jenny.

Don't worry about money Ian spend as much as you like there are a lot of people on here that will give you a place to stay and a meal if you ever need it
This the best thread I have read in a long time it gives all the ups and downs(I felt your pain ) of touring and may it continue for a long while.

Joe

Good evening,,,,

So my adventure enters the final day or two!!!

I can honestly say, it's been bloody fantastic!!!

It has been just what the doctor ordered for me!!

About 6 months ago I was sitting in a house I didn't call home, on my own, wondering what to do!!

I joined motorhomefun on a whim and looked at eBay for Motorhomes, thought I could get one for ten grand!! It was dooable but they weren't what I was looking for!! But the more I looked, the more I got hooked!!! Then I started getting advice from people on here, which I ignored( can you see a pattern here) lol. But I proceeded to buy the first one I saw!! Helga!!!

If I had a bird that was as reliable, hard working, scrubbed up as well as her I wouldn't have been on here!! Lol

Anyway, she has looked after me through thick and thin and I think, hope, we will be together for a long time!!!

So I bought her,, got her mot'd on the way to the ferry and off we went!!

The rest is pretty much history, from meeting Jo on the ferry, to working in the mountains in an olive grove all over Xmas, to exploring all the beaches and cities I could along the coast of Spain ending up with 3 days in portugal( a forgettable experience) and then turning round and coming back,,,

I reversed helga inta a rock at jo's , ripped her awning off in Benidorm, drive away hooked up to electric in Denia, run over a dog in Jerez , and still she keeps going and loves it !!! Now that's what I did to her,, you know what I did to me!!!!

Some things I will remember more fondly than others,, like my comfort stops at Granada with 2 Canadian girls,,,
at Jerez with a more than eager waitress ( or so she said)!! And my final stop with Maria. The ex flamenco dancer in Cadiz!!! Funny thing is, with all this travelling I havnt really been looking or expecting anything close to those encounters!!
So let's move on shall we!!!!!

Now sometimes I have been bored to death, walking along yet another deserted beachfront, stopping only to have yet more coffee,, or so I thought I was,, but the solitude of those moments did me the world of good !! I think I have discovered who and what I am, and to be honest,, I quite like me!!

The time I spent just driving and seeing things I had never seen before, from scenery that dropped my jaw. To fruity sellers that made me burst out laughing when I saw them in those tatty plastic chairs, in dusty old laybyes, smiling and waving at anyone ( including me) lol it was really a fantastic driving experience!! Now normally I don't like driving, but the quality of the roads and lack of traffic, both in Spain and France have made it a pleasure!! O how I wish I could repeat that in the uk!!!

I have also had no expectations about cost or budget this trip, and as you know, much to some peoples horror, I have spent what seems to them to be much wonga!!! Well I treated this first visit to Europe as a proper holiday, and I didn't come to budget or save,,,
However, when I return, the hat I will wear with regards to budget will be a different one!! And for all your advice and help about costs etc I really do thank you,, my money will go a lot further next time !!! ( but it's been worth every penny piece) ......

Now probably the most interesting thing for me on this trip, has been the people I have met along the way,, from George, the homeless bloke from Portugal, now living under some stairs in Spain ( unless he went back) who sat and told me his life story, at the same time as maribow the working girl told me hers, while we were sitting on the kerbside next to a tenement block in Jerez,,, to the other side of the coin,, burndt, the multi millionaire in trafalger, who has the luxury of not having to worry about much for the rest of his interesting life,, his son, his ex wife, his cars, his houses, are all a part of his rich history and I thank him for sharing that with me, and all the others I met who's stories I shall remember forever!!

From the caravanners, to the full time Motorhomers , from the miserable occupants of a £180,000 Motorhome who wouldn't even raise a smile, to the young couole who travell in an old beaten up merc with 2 surfboards loosely strapped to the top ! ( everyone thought they were bums, lol but I got chatting to them and they both, him and her were recently qualified doctors!! Lol) first impressions eh? Lol. From the waiters, waitresses, reception staff at all sites, I have considered myself very lucky to have been in the company of these people for however long, or short the time was!!!!

Now a bit about the country of Spain !!

It's a mans country Spain,, very macho!
Dirty, dusty roads, hard to make a living, electrical cables sticking out of walls and up from the floors just waiting to scar and burn the face off any unsuspecting tourist or individual!!!

Dogs kept outside chained up, and then discarded or shot when there no longer needed or wanted,, a couple of blokes in a stone circle stabbing and killing a proud but angry bull, much to the admiration of the people!!
and loads of dog shit over the pavements and streets!!

You can drive for miles then up pops a small town, right in the middle of nowhere, and I ask myself,, who lives there? How do they make a living ? Amazing

But through all the economic dramas they told me they had,, and all the grief they get from all sorts of people , the Spanish I have found to be amongst the proudest, patriotic, generous and honest people I have ever had the privelledge to meet!!!
They love their families, and are not scared to show it, from walking up and down the prom, to sitting in restaurants, while generations of families are together,,, I'm afraid it puts us ( or some of us, to shame) !!

I was in a bar in Seville , there was a dj playing and the place was packed, I was outside having a fag and a Spanish bloke about 50 came over and asked me for a light,, we got talking and he was very interested in what I was doing, travelling etc,, and he got his wife over, and a few of their friends,, anyway we got chatting and he told me that him and his mate were something big in computers?? They didn't go into to much detail, ( but they both had nice clothes on, and porches in the car park). Anyway they were talking about having to travell all over the world working, and spending most of their time in the states, purely for the money, Why don't you live there I asked. And the reply I got was this ,,,, My wife and I would never move away from where our parents and family live,, being with all of them makes us happy !!!! I was amazed!! That says it all really, we can't wait to put mum in a home !!!! Lol. Bloody English!!! Lol.

So Spain has been fantastic, and if all goes to plan I will be there for many years to come !!!!

Now I can't say anything about France other than its not a macho place,, it's pretty!!! I will see more and form more opinions in the future!!

The funsters I have met along the way, have all been great, and I hope to see them all again soon, but I would just like to say that in Spain on a few occasions, I wouldn't have been so lucky with advice and help with helga if I hadn't met Gus Lopez,,, a real gent, great family and a true Spanglish friend!!!

I can't really think of much more to say now, but I'm sure I will add somethings over the next couple of days,, or at least when I'm on the ferry, hopefully tomorrow!!! I have enjoyed all your comments, moans, advice, criticisms , and jokes throughout the length of my journey, and if you want someone to blame,, blame judgemental!! He started the thread, find ianthebuilder a van, and he can take the blame for everything if you have been angry or fraustrated with me !! Lololol.

So I'm ending this post and maybe the thread soon. I would like to say to you all,, thanks for seeing me and helping me through these months,, if I had not have discovered, Motorhome fun, helga , and all of you, I may have wilted!!!!!!
Thanks Jim for never correcting or censoring my sometimes foul mouthed posts, and letting me just get on with it, we may catch up in the real world soon!

So now all I can think of is a toast to you all,, everyone of you, who have posted hundreds of times, and those that have posted only a few, even those who have bothered to read the thread and follow my misfortunes and fun without posting at all ,,,, I raise my cup of Yorkshire tea to you and say this ,,,,,

There are tall ships,, there are long ships,, they all sail the sea,,,,,
But the best ships are friendships,, and you are all best friends to me !!!!!!!! Cheers ,,,,

XXXXXXXXXXXX.

That's why he's coming back to the UK - to top up his money for the next time. Sure he'll be able to get work whenever he needs it. Builders are always in demand.

Joe

The reasons you've given are why we really want to get to Spain this year. Hope to see you somewhere in Spain early next year when we're planning our next longish trip after the one this Jun-Oct.

Joe

if we get as far as Spain I've got to put blinkers on because of the fruit sellers, LOL!

Joe

Reminds me of when they introduced wearing the reflective jacket if you broke down & had to get out the vehicle- Some bright spark thought they'd get some easy money & descended on the roundabout girls & gave them all 80€ fines for 'failing to wear reflective coat when on the highway ' .
So a couple of days after they ALL , hundreds of them, complied with the law by wearing their nice new jackets ............................................. & nothing else.
