Ian and helga go south !!

First post on your thread Ian, but I've been watching with interest because we're are about to do our first trip abroad in our hymer. I just feel I have to pile in on your side. Bet you wish you never said how much you spent. lol.
My view is money has a different value to different people. It's your money and if you think it was well spent then it was. I don't like to scrimp on my hols either because you may never pass that way again so take advantage of every experience that turns up. Hope we don't have quite as many experiences as you though when we finally get off. Mr Hils has just been trying to fix the struts on our drop down bed. We don't want to be wearing it.(y)(y)(y)

No mate it's not,, and I shall save money,, first when I'm working. And then when I come back to Spain !!
The traditional route of big profit on a property, being left money and having a good pension didn't work for me in the end,,, so my priorities have changed chaser,, I will never again when I come to Spain spend this much money!! I have done most of my sightseeing this time,, I will return to England and work ,, now I will earn enough I hope to top my funds back up and that will allow me a Spanish fund of maybe 5/6.000 pounds,,,, knowing what I know now and just sitting for a few, maybe 5/6 months on a site in Benidorm , that should be more than enough for a frugal lifestyle!! I no longer am interested in owning a property, mortgage, pension but earning enough to enjoy my life and winters abroad will do me lovely,, oh and a few extra quid for my daughter will be fine!! I have never poo pooed your idea of saving money chaser, I realise it's important for some,,, as long as I have enough. I will be happy !!! I appreciate that's hard for some people to understand in today's society but you play the hand your dealt !!!

And you never know mate I may win a lottery!!! Or meet that 6 ft blonde who's dad owns that brewery chain !!! Lol. Enjoy your holiday. And don't take life to seriously,,,, Enjoy,,,,,,,, xxx
Well said IAN,,,Wish in my early 40 s when the kids left home it had entered our heads to travel all winter and work my nuts of in the summer to fund it,,,,,Never mind i did manage to retire when i was 56 on very little and we have managed to get away long term ever since. difficult at first because only silly little pension but much better since us both getting state pensions and an old works pension kicking in...We now get away for 12 weeks to Spain over xmas and usually for another 12 weeks spring and summer to Europe somewhere. We also sometimes book a cheap flight somewhere hot in Europe for a few weeks..No pockets in a shroud and you only get one life,,,BUSBY:D:D:D

Ian I have followed your travels with great pleasure and I am sure you had a great time. Life is for living and everyone lives theirs differently. My parents died at 62 and 58 within six months of each other so for me if I can do something without it causing problems to us or to others then do it. It is not for anyone to tell another how to live their life .

Carry on living, loving and being happy because these are all things that elude many. Good luck in finding work and enjoying another trip.

sorry cant remember the name, but there is a company that make replacement struts reasonably cheaply. hardest ones to change are those near the screen. but dont fall into the trap of removing both sides at the same time. replace one, then the other. however you need to be fairly small and agile to get at the nuts

I am going to give up on this now , just fed up of getting knocked back for trying to help,
I've read through all the posts Chaser, and honestly, I didn't get the impression that you were being personally knocked back. :(
I appreciated your posts, looking at things from an outsider's point of view, and being used to keeping to a budget or a plan. (y) The phrase that "you only live once, so go for it" almost like gay abandon, sounds great to some, but puts the fear of financial insecurity into others.
I'd rather err on the side of caution, living within my means and making do, than be able to talk about what a great time I had in a couple of years, but then regret it, because I didn't have two pennies to rub together. :(

Ian has the knowledge and skills to generate income, and his trade is always in demand, but for many of us, our HM Forces or Local Authority knowledge, skills, and experiences for example, are not in demand in the big wide world, thereby restricting any further source of income, once having been forced out of those careers.

Best regards,

Jock. :)

SGS are known for their supply of gas struts, and even have a list of strut parts for some brands of MH manufacturers.

Unfortunately, ours need doing too, on the drop down bed.:(

Cheers,

Jock.:)

well done Jock, I think you're right with sgs

Oh Ian what am I going to do with you, not read the thread for a couple of days and your running around half naked and got men on your roof, just had tears running down my eyes laughing, and Eddie giving me some odd looks, you really have had an adventure and brightened up the winter months for quite a few, bit like a soap with lots of people getting involved. Some way you could do with this whole thread saving and kept for future reference and even that book, there is definitely a story in there.(y)

Thanks Big1 and JockandRita. We've already called SGS. Mr Hils is not known for being hasty so I'm expecting this to take a day or two. A lot of thought and coffee breaks has to go into a job like that you know.

Well said jock,, I certainly didn't mean to belittle what chaser was getting at, at all,,,,,, and I can also appreciate that what I have done must seem like a criminal waste of money,, but this break has drawn a line under my previous life, and has kickstarted my new one !! I honestly think chaser was/is genuinely worried about my future, just proving that he is a careing, concerned member of this site,, I always listened to what he says and I can understand his concerns,, but I'm looking at this a bit differently, as you have said,I have a good trade and I hope to be able to earn plenty over the rest of my working career, and I hope to have money left to start it with,, I just think he was a bit worried for me,,, Like you jock I don't see any posts as personal attacks on his comments, just different opinions,, but well said mate !! Chaser, I got enough dramas with judge telling me off , without you worrying about me! Lol.
My dad would say to me ( if he was about). Ian,, your big enough, and ugly enough, to sort it out yourself !! And I agree!!!!! Xxxxxx. Nice one jock, I hope he reconsiders not posting !! Xxx

Morning Ian, you up yet?

Same here, off to the Forest of Dean to work and then back to North Wales

Well good morning,,,

This is it today, a full valet over the next couple of days for helga!!

All net curtains, curtains, carpets, walls, floors, cupboards, both inside and out ,,all crap I don't need is going into the bin, clothes will all get a wash! Everything but leather jacket and the famous leather coat,, shoes all coming out and will be polished to destruction, !!

I really like this site, I have plenty of room so I will have sofas, mattress and everything that isn't nailed down outside and spruced up!!

I will go to Iceland I think and try to get a carpet, fabric cleaner, and some mr sheen, new dusters, cloths, and anything else I can think of !!

I had a little drama last night,, I made myself a salad for tea, and when I was in the shop I needed some vinegar, now the nice woman assistant came round when she saw me struggling and gave me a bottle of what was called Essen? Now it was clear in colour and I have never really seen clear vinegar, but ok I thought seems ok !!

Got back to helga, got plate out, started to prepare said salad ,,

Tomatoes all cut nicely, cucumber all good( thin slices), lettuce, washed and beautifully presented, one pork pie( small) selection of cold meats and mature cheddar, put a bit of salt on all good, bit of extra virgin oil( helps me get rid of it in the morning) ! And proceeded to put vinegar all over !!

Well piled a selection onto the fork and took a mouthful,, all good for about 5 secs, Then it kicked in ,, Jesus,,,
I was up to the sink, mouth under the tap, gasping for breath, lungs were boiling, chest felt like it had been steam cleaned and throat and vocal chords couldn't mutter a sound !!!!

Salad went in the bin, bottled water was the only thing I could put in my mouth and rest of vinegar went into the kettle to de scale, some in sink to clean grey waste tank !!! Never again !!

The blisters on my mouth have healed enough overnight to now drink like warm tea,, but no. Never again !!!!

Speak later ,, if I can !!!! Xxxxx

You need something mate??

Na...just been up awhile having a cuppa, wondered if you were up

EDIT: you might whant to know white vinager is used for pickeling things, like eggs or builders mouths;)

Bought similar in Germany and had similar experience and since found out it is concentrated vinegar and meant to be diluted with water or wine before use!
